DwarfHeim - Danny_Merge
Hey everyone,

We have some news to share on the future of DwarfHeim.

Some time after v1.0 the developers dissolved which means we have no source code and no means of continuing to update the game. In the meanwhile we have been maintaining servers to enable players to continue playing the game.

Unfortunately, it is no longer feasible to continue to maintain servers so we will be removing DwarfHeim from sale as soon as Valve is able to make this change, to prevent any further sales, and then DwarfHeim server support will end on 30th November 2023. Due to the way DwarfHeim was built it is not possible to play the game without servers, and without the development team, or the source code, there's no way we can patch in offline play.

Thank you to everyone who supported DwarfHeim.

Hi Everyone,

I'm very pleased to let you know that the service level issue that had rendered DwarfHeim unavailable is resolved. We have done some testing internally and everything seems to be working, please do let us know if anyone encounters any issues.

Huge apologies to everyone who has been trying to play during this time, it was a complicated issue to resolve and we're very happy to see the game back up for players.

Thanks,

Danny.

Hi everyone,

We wanted to express our sincere apologies for the ongoing outage with DwarfHeim. It isn’t a simple case of switching a server back on or paying for a server that has lapsed, otherwise, we would have taken that action swiftly.

There is a service level issue that we have only been made aware of since the developer, Pineleaf, was unfortunately dissolved. We’re working diligently to try and get this solved but it is a complex situation, and we, unfortunately, don’t have an ETA on when it can be resolved.

As such, we’ve reached out to Valve to take the temporary measure of removing DwarfHeim from sale until the issue is resolved. As soon as they are able to help us, we will disable purchases. We want to keep the lines of communication open to the community so we don't want to take down the page entirely.

For players who own the game, we’re doing everything we can as the publisher to bring DwarfHeim back online as soon as possible and we’ll share more as soon as we have a clear path to the solution.

Thank you.

#1: Do I need three people to play?
No, you can play single player or multiplayer by yourself. If you don't have a team online, you can matchmake by selecting your class and get matched with other players for the match.
You can also take advantage of the DwarfHeim Friend-Pass. Friend-Pass allows owners of DwarfHeim to invite their friends who don’t own the game yet, to play the co-op mode, Survival, together - totally free. The Friend-pass allows players to introduce their friends to DwarfHeim and let them try the game before buying!

#2: How much does DwarfHeim cost?
DwarfHeim costs $24.99 / £19.49 / €24.99 / ¥80.00

#3: Was this an Early Access game?
DwarfHeim went through an Early Access release and during that time we implemented a ton of feedback gathered from the Early Access players. We didn’t get to implement everything that we had planned during the Early Access release, but we launched v1.0 with a range of new updates.

#4: What changes are coming out with v.10?
Here’s a list of everything that has gone into v1.0, which comes from the amazing Early Access feedback we received.
  • TUNNELS
  • Upgraded Defences
  • Achievement update for survival
  • New survival UI
  • New Hilda lobby animations
  • Change survival troll colours (minimap & health bar)
  • Arrow projectiles rotate towards the target
  • Added survival difficulty bonus when playing on a team
  • New Thanes voice lines
  • Auto-chop after constructing lumber mill
  • New thane, cosmetics, and troll icons
  • Level reward buttons send to collection screen for item clicked

Hey everyone!

We’re excited to tell you that the time to leave Early Access is upon us, DwarfHeim v1.0 is coming on September 27th!

Early Access has been a journey, and whilst it took longer than expected, we’re so grateful to the amazing community that come along with us.

We weren’t able to achieve everything that we had set out to do with DwarfHeim during early access, so we’re not going into the v1.0 launch in the way we had intended, but do want to reflect on how much we were able to update and improve DwarfHeim during early access, with thanks to excellent feedback and a close-knit community.

Early Access saw the addition of player rewards for online matches, an improved Thane leveling system, a selection of new Thanes with unique abilities, new tutorials, pathfinding tools, local hosting, queuing for different game types simultaneously, and a complete Survival Overhaul with intense blood moon events featuring new enemy types.

That’s not all! We have a number of updates that we were able to finish and bring along to the v1.0 release!

V1.0 is launching with the following exciting updates and improvements!
  • TUNNELS
  • Upgraded Defenses
  • Achievement update for survival
  • New survival UI
  • New Hilda lobby animations
  • Change survival troll colours (minimap & health bar)
  • Arrow projectiles rotate towards the target
  • Added survival difficulty bonus when playing on a team
  • New Thanes voice lines
  • Auto-chop after constructing lumber mill
  • New thane, cosmetics and troll icons
  • Level reward buttons send to collection screen for item clicked

Finally, as a little thank you to our Early Access players and those who join us on launch, we have a unique weapon skin that will be given to every current player and only available for 30 days from launch.

We know this isn’t what you expected when you joined us in Early Access, and we’re sorry that we weren’t able to realise the vision we had for our unique twist on the genre, but we hope that you can join us in celebrating the release of DwarfHeim v1.0 and we want to share one final, truly heartfelt, THANK YOU, for taking a chance on DwarfHeim and being part of the wonderful community that we are so grateful for.

Thank you!

Hey everyone-

We wanted to give you an update on the version 1.0 release, and the future of DwarfHeim.

We had huge plans for DwarfHeim and wanted to do something new and exciting in the RTS genre. Doing something new inherently comes with risk, but instead of doing something tried and tested we really wanted to try and blaze a new path.

We put everything into DwarfHeim but the sad reality we have had to face is that the early access launch did not take off in the way the team had hoped it would. We’ve always listened to and actioned community feedback and worked that into some of the fantastic updates we have made to the game during early access.

With community feedback, we added player rewards for online matches, improved Thane leveling system, new tutorials, local hosting, queuing for different game types simultaneously, and a range of other small updates alongside regular bug fixes and balancing. It has been wonderful to work so closely with the community during early access to make numerous great updates to the game, as we head towards the end of early access with an even more robust experience than we entered it.

Merge Games has been an incredibly supportive partner and believed in the vision of DwarfHeim along with us. Together with Merge, we worked hard side-by-side to try and bring in new players and deliver a great game for the existing community, but unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out as planned.

So despite the positives and the efforts we have made to drive the game, ultimately, sales didn’t meet our expectations and we haven’t been able to increase or sustain the DwarfHeim player base. We always had a long term plan to continue delivering content based on community input but we are very sorry to tell you that due to the low sales, lack of players, and consequently, not enough revenue to sustain the project, it is now no longer possible for us to stick to that plan. There are several previously planned updates, shaped by community feedback, that we are still planning to implement into the game to form the version 1.0 full release of DwarfHeim.

We are sorry that we are unable to deliver to you the original vision that we had for the future of DwarfHeim and the community around it. We know that when you took the early access plunge with us that this wasn’t what you signed up for. We hope that you have enjoyed the many improvements made during early access and the final version of DwarfHeim will always be a unique and fun co-op RTS experience. We hope to see the community enjoying the results of the early access launch into the future.

We did everything in our power to remain in a position where it was viable to continue working on DwarfHeim, and we are sorry that ultimately, we let you down.

Thank you for placing your trust in us, and thank you for being part of this wonderful community.

There will be a FAQ posted in the next few days, if you have any further questions please DM @Domina on our Discord, or post here in the steam forums and we'll try to answer as best we can.

With love,

Aech

Patch 9 - v0.10.9.4

Patch 9 has just launched! With this patch we've spent time on working on improving the initial menu UI as well as improved optimized the game for lower end PC's.

We're currently working on some larger patches and new features, so while this month might seem a bit low on new features, that comes from our developers working hard on a much larger patch planned in July!

In addition! It's the season of SUMMER, so keep your eyes open for maybe a nice little discount to bring your friends into the game, either through buying it on sale or inviting them to play through FRIEND-PASS, and watch your favorite DH streamers play on Twitch to earn the Trollhunter Thane Tools cosmetics!

Hope you guys enjoy the changes and join our discord to share your feedback with us: OFFICIAL DISCORD
