It’s about time we boarded up the windows here in the RPS treehouse for the weekend, but we leave you with a little gift, although admittedly a second-hand one.

Presumably in an effort to drum up interest in the (quite good) Dungeons 3, Realmforge Studios have been giving away the second game in their Dungeon Keeper-ish series a lot lately. If you missed the chance to pick it up last year in Humble’s giveaway, GOG are offering their DRM-free edition of the game here for the next day or so.

We’ll never get Dungeon Keeper 3, but in a few days we will get Dungeons 3, sequel to a not-Bullfrog spiritual remake that took the long way round to evoking its revered forebear. Dungeons 1 was a hot mess, but in our Dungeons 2 review I felt it made a pretty decent fist of the ol’ monster-management + RTS combat formula. Dungeons 3 [Steam page], all of a sudden out next week (we newsed it back in February but this was the first I’d heard of it, and I’m the only one who matters), looks like it’s trying to refine that even further.

Spring has sprung and Humble have got deals, hun. Their big spring sale has launched with discounts on thousands of games and, for the next day-and-a-bit, free copies of Dungeons 2 for all. Y’know, Dungeons 2, that fantasy overlord strategy game which borrows heavily from Dungeon Keeper and which our Alec really quite liked. Beyond that, heck, it’s a big sale: thousands of games are cheaper than usual until Thursday the 25th of May. I’m extremely intrigued bySubaltern’s magic school management game No Pineapple Left Behind [official site]. The more I look, the more it seems like its superficially wwwwwacky and zzzzzany concept of ‘what if you could turn kids into pineapples to make them easier students?’ is there to guide people into what might be both a biting and deep management game about the education system. There is fantasy, there are spells and there is the tyrannical oppression of a rebellious population, but it all relates to the minds and identities of children – are we looking at Dungeon Keeper with actual satire? … [visit site to read more]
