Duelyst - Ryvirath
Patch 1.78 should be available on Dec 15th around 3PM PST.

Rise of the Bloodborn Expansion

We’re excited to bring you the latest DUELYST expansion with 39 New Cards, featuring a new keyword Blood Surge: (activates when you use your General’s Bloodborn Spell), and including some of our favorite artwork for Minions and Spells.

Check out the full expansion card list here.

The Rise of the Bloodborn Orbs are different from the Core and Shimzar set:

  • Each Rise of the Bloodborn Orb contains 3 copies of 3 cards (total of 9 cards).
  •
  • Rise of the Bloodborn Orbs NEVER give duplicates.
  •
  • Rise of the Bloodborn Cards can not be crafted or dis-enchanted, but once you own 3x of a card you can craft the prismatic version.
  •
  • Opening 13 orbs unlocks the entire expansion.
  •
  • Each orb costs 300 GOLD or $2.99 USD.
  •
  • The entire set costs $19.99 USD.
  •

There is a detailed FAQ about the expansion in the DUELYST subreddit.

If you open 3 orbs for GOLD or for $2.99 and then decide to buy the whole set for $19.99 USD you will receive a 300G refund per purchased orb. TLDR: we refund you any Gold you spent.

New Card Lore

We’ve added new lore for the following Cards:

  • Argeon Highmayne
  •
  • Reva Eventide

  •

No Patch on January 1st

There won’t be a scheduled patch on January 1st. The gang here is taking a break over the holidays and we anticipate our next patch to be mid-January 2017.

The Rise of the Bloodborn expansion as well as the past 77 patches are a culmination of a year of very hard work for the team. We look forward to showing you what’s in store for 2017.

Balance Changes
As always all changed cards are disenchantable for roughly 1 week after the change for full spirit value.

We’ve got some exciting new changes this patch. When we make changes it’s with the goal to create a healthy environment for a wide variety of decks and play styles, and to maintain great faction balance.

Mana Vortex – Text changed to “The next spell you cast this turn costs 1 less.”

Songhai has been performing really well this season, and we’re looking to tone down their ability to recover from all-in turns. Mana Vortex will still allow you to create explosive turns, but you’ll have to look elsewhere to keep your action bar full.

Lantern Fox – Stats changed from 2/4 to 2/3.

Lantern Fox has been a staple in Songhai decks for a long time, and we don’t intend to change that. We do feel that it should provide slightly less value on average. Lantern Fox’s health has been reduced by 1.

Spelljammer – Cost changed from 3 to 4. Stats changed from 2/4 to 3/5.

Spelljammer is one of the strongest options for card draw, especially in aggressive decks. By bumping up its cost and stats, other deck strategies should have more room to flourish.

Cryogenesis – Cost changed from 3 to 4.

Cryogenesis is a good removal option in Duelyst, and can limit the viability of minions with 4 or less health. By increasing its cost, you’ll have to think twice when deciding to destroy their minion, or summon your own.

Rite of the Undervault – Cost changed from 5 to 6.

Abyssian can be a a strong faction when it comes to the late game. Rite of the Undervault’s cost has been increased to 6, so that it will take a bigger commitment for Abyssian players to draw cards. You’ll still get to refill after expending your hand, but the increased cost should ensure that your enemy isn’t quite as far behind.

Blistering Skorn – Cost changed from 3 to 4. Stats changed from 3/4 to 4/5.

Blistering Skorn gives each faction a board-clear option, which can disproportionately hurt the “swarm” playstyle. By bumping up its cost and stats, smaller minions should have a bit more breathing room.
Premium Battlemaps

We’re adding 4 new Legendary Battle Maps to the Armory!
  • Battlemaps are Legendary Cosmetics. Each costs $7.99 or 3000 Spirit.
  • You can set your Battlemap from the Deck Select screen after you’ve unlocked one.
  • Your Battlemap will be used when you are PLAYER 1 in a game.
Quest Economy Changes

We’re re-balancing how gold is distributed between the 2 daily quests, and we’re introducing new quest types.
  • We’re changing the 1st quest slot into a 20 GOLD quest that is always a faction quest.
  • We’re changing the 2nd quest slot into a 50 GOLD quest that is meant to be finished in 5-10 games.
    • Adventurer: Play 8 Games.
    • Ultimate Aggressor: Deal 150 Damage to Enemy Generals
    • Assassin: Destroy 50 Enemy Minions
  • We’re changing the per-win reward to 15 GOLD every 3 WINS from every 2 WINS.
  • We’re removing the cap on per-win rewards for players that want to grind out 50+ games per day.
Gold rewards help encourage play patterns. Right now, there is a big drop-off in rewards after playing your first 4 games every day. Instead, we want there to be a big GOLD payoff for playing 7-10 games while still having a viable way to grind to earn lots of GOLD every day.

Here’s how the math works out based on our simulations and play pattern data:
  • At 4 games vast majority of players will earn 45 GOLD. This is less than the theoretical max in the old system.
  • At 7-10 games vast majority of players will earn 110 to 125 GOLD. This is slightly more than in the old system.
We want an incentive for casual players (~4 games) to play a bit more, and we want a slight reward buff to engaged players (~8 games) that don’t win more than 60% of the time.

When we make these changes we do think of EVERY player type that forms the backbone of DUELYST (Casuals, Competitive, Grinders, etc.). We can’t always design systems that work perfectly to incentivize all 3 without hurting some other part of the game.
4 New Codex Chapters

We’ve added 4 new chapters to the Codex / Historia. Come and explore the chapters:
  • Chapter 21: Rasha’s Betrayal and The Eternal Empire
  • Chapter 22: The Vetruvian Wars
  • Chapter 23: The Rise of Ziros Starstrider
  • Chapter 24: Starstrider’s Final Gambit
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with the Gauntlet Keyblade animation after winning a game.
  • Fixed an issue with Dreadnought dying and making its own egg a 2/3. Should be a 0/1.
  • Fixed an issue with interaction of Grandmaster Z’ir + Blindscorch + Psychic Conduit.
December Season Patch Preview
The December patch will not include new season cards as we aim to release our next expansion in mid-December. The season rewards for December will be a random card of the appropriate rarity for each division:
  • Silver – Epic card.
  • Gold – Legendary card (and all of above).
  • Diamond – Rare card (and all of above).
  • S-Rank – Common card + 1 Bonus Legendary card (and all of above).

  • Upcoming Card Expansion.

  • Decimus – 4 Cost Neutral Legendary – Whenever your opponent draws a card deal 2 damage to the enemy general.

  • Hitting Diamond Division Rank 5+ earns 1x Monthly Rare (and all of above)
  • Hitting S-Rank earns 1x Monthly Common + 1x Random Legendary (and all of above)
Division Starter Bundles

We’re introducing a new type of product into the Armory: Division Starter Bundles.

Each bundle can be purchased only once and unlocks as you hit a division or meet its requirements.
  • Bronze Starter Bundle
    • Requires 2 wins in Bronze Division
    • $4.99 USD for 5 Orbs and 3x Random Neutral Legendary
  • Silver Starter Bundle
    • Requires reaching Silver Division
    • $9.99 USD for 10 Orbs and 3x Random Neutral Epic
  • Gold Starter Bundle
    • Requires reaching Gold Division
    • $19.99 USD for 15 Orbs and 3x Random Faction Legendary
We plan for DUELYST to have many expansions, and we want newer players to have an easier time deciding what to purchase.

If you’ve already completed the requirements for a starter bundle in a past season, you should see appear it in the shop under the Specials category.
Bug Fixes and Minor Cleanup
  • Fixed an issue where quest notifications were not showing correctly if multiple quests were progressed at the same time.
  • Improved performance and resource usage in preparation for Mobile. Memory usage should be reduced.
  • Games resulting in a draw show correctly on the on match profile screen.
  • Improved Practice AI decision making and fixed a few edge cases where it was not able to pick the optimal move.
  • Cards that react to card draw (Visionar, Vindicator, Decimus) should no longer react to “putting a card in hand” abilities (like Sworn Sister L’Kian).

Duelyst - Ryvirath
Hey everyone, we’ve been working hard on the next card expansion as well as our Mobile and Console builds. In the meantime, the mid-October patch is going to focus on balance changes and fixing a few bugs and minor issues.

Balance Changes
We make balance changes rarely and for a number of reasons. These changes are not based entirely on a card’s popularity, win rate, or lack thereof. We will say a bit about why we’re making each change, and as always changed cards are disenchantable for ~1 week after the change for full spirit value.

Kara Winterblade – Bloodborn spell changed to: “Any minion you summon this turn gains +1/+1.”

This was a hard decision. There are a few reasons for this change: First, Kara has been dominant in competitive play, and tends to promote decks that are considered unfun. Second, Kara has been a one trick pony and we wanted to adjust that a bit to allow us to create new interesting cards that interact with her spell (for example, cards that create multiple minions and spells that spawn walls will now receive the buff unlike before). Ultimately, Kara’s spell acted as a hard power limit on any Neutral or Vanar cards we could release in future expansions or our monthly season card releases.

Saberspine Seal – Cost changed from 1 to 2.

We are increasing the mana cost of Saberspine Seal to make it more difficult for Songhai to put together high-damage combos, and make it more taxing to efficiently remove threats from the board while maintaining pressure on an opponent. Note that we do want to continue to support a variety of deck-types in Duelyst, and Songhai’s ability to play powerful aggressive and/or combo decks is something we consider core to their playstyle.

Siphon Energy – Text changed to “Dispel an enemy minion nearby your General.”

Vetruvian has some of the most powerful tools in the game. The ability to easily neutralize opposing threats regardless of their position on the board is an area where the faction could stand a slight adjustment. We think forcing Vetruvian to care more about positioning to dispel enemies is such an adjustment.

Ephemeral Shroud – Stats changed from 2/2 to 1/1.

Ephemeral Shroud is among the most commonly played cards in all of Duelyst. Given its near universal playability, we’ve reduced its stats to reinforce the core reason for including Ephemeral Shroud in a deck: its dispel effect. The value Shroud offers as a minion on the board should not be as important. Note that we do think there should be good neutral dispel options for all factions to use, but we want to see other reactive cards become viable choices in place of having an answer to most scenarios with the Ephemeral Shroud.

Zen’Rui, The Blightspawned – Cost changed from 5 to 6. Stats changed from 4/3 to 4/4.

We want Zen’Rui to continue to be a viable card to play given the correct metagame, but it should be more difficult to include in a deck without many downsides. Putting Zen’Rui further up the curve introduces more tradeoffs when deciding to include him in a deck, and gives us more space to create powerful minions with 2 or less attack.

Inquisitor Kron – Stats changed from 4/6 to 4/4.

Inquisitor Kron’s powerful stats and value-generating effect have landed him a spot as the premier 5 cost minion of Duelyst to the exclusion of most other 5 cost minions. While we hope he continues to be a desirable choice in a variety of deck styles going forward, we want players to feel like they have more options in the 5 cost slot.
Bug Fixes
  • Introduced a new system for handling potential network packet drop and game desync issues. Duelyst will attempt to better detect packet drop and ask you to re-enter the game if it falls out of sync.
  • Streamer Watch list is now sorted by viewer count since we’ve added a number of new faces over the past few weeks.
  • Some Shimzar spells have received new custom visual effects.
  • Fixed a bug where challenging a friend to a game while they are in the Orb Opening screen could lock the game navigation.
  • Fixed an issue with the card text on Pandora.
  • Fixed an issue where using Mirror Meld on minions buffed in a specific way would cause them to die as soon as copied.
  • Multiple unit teleports should happen all together in parallel visually instead of one-by-one.
First Look: November Monthly Cards
Get excited for the 4 November Monthly Season cards coming out on the 1st of November. Remember, you can earn a FREE copy of each of these by hitting one of the 4 ranked ladder divisions: SILVER, GOLD, DIAMOND, S-RANK.

Spectate Mode

Starting with Patch 1.72 you can spectate friends in your buddy list. When a friend is in-game you will see a "spectate" button in place of the "challenge" button. Once you are in-game with a friend, all game events are close to real-time.

You can always block spectators in the settings if you don't want friends to spectate your games.

Note: Spectating players not on your buddy list and/or featured games is in the works, but not yet part of this update.

Server desync Handling
We've improved how the server handles clients that drop packets and their game getting out of sync with the server. Your client should detect these cases and offer you the option to attempt to reload the game.

Denizens of Shim’Zar

We’re proud to bring you Duelyst’s first expansion: Denizens of Shim’Zar!

Explore the 90+ new units, spells, and artifacts (and new Battle Pet unit type) here:

https://duelyst.com/denizens-of-shimzar

Card Changes

Along with the release of Denizens of Shim’Zar, we have changed a number of cards and mechanics in Duelyst. As always, we made these changes based on extensive community input, play testing, and data mining. Our aim is to improve overall gameplay, deck and card variety, and open up more space for future additions to the game.

Core Mechanic Change: Shadow Creep

Shadow Creep tiles now always deal 1 damage, rather than scaling with the amount of friendly Shadow Creep tiles.

The following Shadow Creep cards also changed:
  • Shadow Nova: Cost reduced to 4 mana.
  • Abyssal Crawler: Ability changed to: “At the end of your turn, turn a nearby space into Shadow Creep.”
    • Abyssal Juggernaut: Changed to: 3/3, Cost 4, “This minion has +1/+1 for each friendly Shadow Creep.”
    • Darkspine Elemental: Changed to: 1/4, Cost 2, “Double the damage dealt by friendly Shadow Creep.”

Core Mechanic Change: Eggs

Friendly eggs now hatch at the start of your turn. Additionally, minions that hatch from eggs are “ready” (can move and/or attack immediately).

The following egg cards also changed:

Other Card Changes

As always, you can disenchant any changed cards for approximately one week after the patch for full spirit value.

September Monthly Cards

We’re introducing 4 new cards into the core set for the September Season!

Minor Changes and Bug Fixes

  • Further improvements aimed at removing ‘One Moment’ lag post game (beyond what was hotfixed in 1.70.1).
  • Added the ability to buy multiple Spirit Orbs at a time with gold.
  • Performance of rendering cards is now improved.
  • Improved rendering quality of sprites for non-default resolutions.
  • Fixed a bug where legendary artifact effects could be shown at an incorrect location.
  • Fixed a bug where players with more than 12 seasons of ranked play would have data missing from their Ranked History in profile.
  • Fixed a bug that could prevent Starhorn MK2’s casting animation from showing.
