It’s about damn time. After months of preparation, Destiny 2 is ready to blow up The Almighty, the massive Cabal spaceship that’s been threatening to smack The Tower all through this season. The fireworks kick off in a few hours – and in a new move for Bungie, it sounds like you’ll be able to watch the calamity as it happens in what may be Destiny 2’s first live, in-game spectacle.

Always acting, but never quite seen. It seems one of Destiny 2‘s most elusive antagonists is preparing to finally play its hand. Lurking in the shadows of Bungie’s space-knight loot shooter, The Darkness have finally put voice to their long-awaited return by broadcasting an ominous hum on the Destiny 2 Twitter account. Whether as another season or as the game’s next expansion, it may soon be time to work out what, exactly, The Traveller’s been running away from all this time.

It’s about time we worked out which Destiny 2 class is the good one. Next week, Bungie’s space-wizards, stellar warriors and, uh, moon hunters are taking part in the Guardian Games, a limited-time event that has each class battling out for new gear, snazzy guns, and the chance to win bragging rights over their Guardian compatriots. Don’t worry, though. The best Destiny class is still the one you (yes, you) play.

Unless your side loses. Them’s the breaks.

Some much-needed changes are coming to Destiny 2‘s ‘Armour 2.0’ gear system next season to reduce grind, most notably (to me) opening up the seasonal mod slots to also accept armour mods from the previous season and the next. This means you won’t need to replace your gear every season if you want to use the new mods. As someone who plays too much damn Destiny but still doesn’t have outfits with stats as good as much of my gear from last season, I welcome this change. We’ll also become able to change the elemental affinity of armour pieces to use other elemental mods, though at a cost.

The results are in! The links between the longevity of Steam Charts and the decreases in violent crime, the improvement of sanitary water supplies, and sudden global drops in serious health issues, are no coincidence at all!

To quote from the paper recently published in Nature, “Causal links have been shown connecting Rock Paper Shotgun’s Steam Charts articles to a remarkably number of positive worldwide trends, with strong suggestion that a global dependence on the column has been established, such that its weekly appearance is vital to humanity.”

There is nothing worse for a world-leading chartologist (PhD) like me than a Steam sale. All sense is lost, all decorum thrown to the wind, as the same few games come stamping all over everything like an uninvited six year old whose parents let him go to bed whenever he wants. And we’re entering Sale Season, people. It’s going to get stampy.

Along with a new dungeon and Halloween event, yesterday’s Destiny 2 update slipped in a surprise new open-world public activity on the Moon, named Altars Of Sorrow. It is a beautiful demonstration of how, sometimes, the saviours of humanity are so drunk on loot they’ll idly blindfire into an enemy spawn point until the ground glitters with goodies. This is how Altars Of Sorrow goes. Between item drops, ammo boxes, orbs of ability energy, and Halloween candy, it soon looks like a Christmas where I’m opening gifts using an SMG. And then the game goes “Hey, you paying attention there?” and kicks you square up the arse.

Dear fireteam,Last night we finished Destiny 2: Shadowkeep‘s Garden Of Salvation raid for the seventh time, and once again I held everyone up while I paused to take screenshots. I am sorry. Ish. Sorry-ish. As I told you when I paused beneath the vast paddlewheels churning up canals of liquid consciousness to take snaps of a cherry tree, it was definitely necessary for work. See, look, here’s a post about how the technorganic garden is so very pretty, sharing some of my photos of vast landscapes for people who can’t or won’t visit it themselves. It was for work.

Yours spacesincerely,A

The Schwarzschild radius of the Steam Charts continues to shrink as the effects of the Universal Collapse take greater impact on our daily lives.

People, I face a dilemma. (Great cars, them Dilemmas. – Ed)> This week Destiny 2 takes up an astonishing five out of ten spaces on the Charts. So what’s a professional games journalist of 20 years experience to do? Write ten octopus facts in less detail but with more jokes, or six more involved entries perhaps better celebrating our cephalopod friends? I’ve opted for the latter, and I hope you’ll endorse me in this decision rather than join the inevitable social media backlash.
