We know our updates have become infrequent these past months, and for that, we want to be transparent. Development challenges and unexpected delays played a part, but another big reason for our quietness was a deliberate choice - we learned from past experience that revealing too much and too early can sometimes spoil the spine-chilling first encounter we aim to deliver. We’ve become cautious, carefully selecting what horrors to unveil, to make your eventual playthrough as impactful and terrifying as possible. But as we get closer to the finish line, we will reveal more for you to enjoy.


Despite these challenges, we've been making steady progress! Our team has poured countless hours into refining puzzles designed to twist your mind and level designs crafted to immerse you in the harrowing atmosphere of the Body Farm and The Underworld. On top of that, we've been refining new and existing enemy encounters to ensure each confrontation is unforgettable - and thoroughly unsettling.

And yes, we do hear your curiosity loud and clear! Soon, we'll be dropping a new trailer that will shed a flickering light on the nightmares awaiting you in Dark Fracture. Stay tuned!

We’ve opened a portal to hell, and released all the horrors contained within into the world. …well, ok, into our vault. We will however unleash them upon all of humanity on September 6 during our horror extravaganza, Fear Fest 2022: Black Summer. Mark the calendar or the mark of the beast will mark you, we’re coming to your screens, and we have big guns on our side.

Joining the show will, of course, be our premiere titles, Dark Fracture and Terror: Endless Night, but we’ve also recruited an army of influencers and big-name horror games publishers and developers.



The broadcast is going to feature trailers for upcoming top-shelf horror titles, developer interviews, gameplay recorded by popular influencers, and even story segments in the style of a found-footage horror film, to tie everything together.

Some say in a few years we’ll all be eating insects. Well, you may find that in Dark Fracture a role-reversal of sorts awaits you. We’ve been hard at work getting new models for the game and today we’re ready to show you one of them and take you on a journey through its creation.




Let’s get to the meat of this devlog. Do insects count as meat? Regardless, last you’ve heard from us, it was still 2021 and we took a closer look at the realm we dubbed “The Underworld”. This time, we bring you one of the horrors that leaked into reality from said Underworld, or... did they? In your day-to-day routine on the body farm, you may find your workflow interrupted by some of these hideous mutated insectoids. They may be small in size but there’s power in numbers.

As far as the design goes, we wanted to go with something that is almost universally considered repulsive. You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t at least a little peeved by the sighting of an oversized insect. Of course, there is beauty to be found anywhere and the detail on our new critter certainly has some aesthetic appeal, if I could say so myself. Another reason for choosing insects? Dark Fracture’s atmosphere really hinges on this alien and eerie feeling and bugs have for years been used as prototypes for designing alien creatures. Their anatomy lends itself perfectly to creating monsters that make us feel uneasy because in real life we never see insects in these proportions and with so much detail, and they look nothing like the animals we’re used to seeing day-to-day.

As you can see in the images above, the design has come a long way from the initial draft. Aside from the model gaining a lot more detail and definition, there were a lot of design changes. We’ve settled on a much angrier looking skull, the mandibles gained a much more exaggerated, carnivorous-alien-here-to-devour-you feeling, and surprise, surprise, it has wings now. Oh, God.

Even then, our work was not done, as the critter had to be textured, and we were still working out little kinks, the biggest of them being the design of the wings. Here you can see one of the early iterations:



At this point, the design was really coming together, and it soon culminated in the final look of the monster. That’s what you’ve been waiting for, haven’t you? Well, we’ll show you the final product in a second, but first, we’ve prepared a little texturing breakdown time-lapse of the model. Enjoy:

EVENTS

Back on Earth, not unlike our insect buddy, we’ve been quite the busy bees. While most of the showcases are taking place online, it has not tempered our spirits and we’re spreading the Dark Fracture gospel at all of them. There are a lot of events happening so let’s take them one at a time.

We’ve just recently taken part in the Intel Showcase at Hamburg Games Conference, which was mostly a biz dev event but we were nonetheless happy to be part of this very impressive lineup. Our publisher Feardemic also held an event which they aptly named the Feardemic’s Fear Fest, where they showcased new trailers from their upcoming titles, Dark Fracture, as you may have guessed, being one of them. We have also been honored to get featured at The MIX 10th Anniversary Online Showcase which has previously given stage to such wonderful, critically-acclaimed titles as DARQ or Eldest Souls. Standing next to such giants was definitely incredibly exciting.

As far as live events go, we visited WASD in London, this led to this hilarious compilation of people jumping in their seats while playing Dark Fracture: Prologue.

People seemed to enjoy the Prologue quite a lot which really gave us the motivation to keep working on Dark Fracture. We really love seeing the fans’ reactions, because it’s you guys that we do this for. If you were one of the people we scared at the event make sure to let us know in the comments. Moving from the past into the present, we have a few events coming up, most notably Digital Dragons 2022 where we’re a part of their Indie Showcase, and Indie Live Expo which included us in their INDIE Live Premiere segment. DD2022 takes place on May 12-13, and will show off 40 selected titles on Steam before the conference, and then let you play them during it, so look out for Dark Fracture. As for ILE, you’ll be able to catch us on day 2 of the event (May 22) on their stream.

The Spring is here and so is the conclusion to our Black Summer Remix Competition! As a reminder, BSC was a contest where we asked our fans to remix the song Black Summer by The Feardemic Orchestra created for the purpose of an easter egg in Dark Fracture. The top 3 finalists were each to receive a set of world-renowned GRADO GW100 wireless headphones worth 249 USD each, and the winner would additionally get their creation featured in Dark Fracture as well as on the official game soundtrack.

Now, without further ado, we’d like to congratulate MUSLEY for taking first place in the competition, your remix really had that “it” factor that we were looking for in a winner and your reimagining of the song was really creative. We’d also like to congratulate the runner-ups, THE SEVEN WHORES OF THE APOCALYPSE (hope we spelled that right), and SIDDARTH, you guys did a fantastic job and we hope the new headphones will serve you well. We’d also like to thank all the other folks who submitted an entry, you guys rock, and there were some amazing entries that almost made it to the podium, and deserve praise, keep doing the good work. It’s finally happening, the time has come to rock with us at Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2022! If you missed the last announcement, it talked about our big event, Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2022! It takes place on March 15 at 7 pm CET, and will feature a new trailer from Dark Fracture. But! Of course, we wouldn’t be writing to you just to remind you of FFF now, would we? That’s right, this time we’d like to announce a new event. A competition. Black Summer Remix Competition.



What exactly is the Black Summer Remix Competition? To explain that, we’ll have to acquaint you with Black Summer first. Feardemic has its own band, The Feardemic Orchestra, and it’s been known to, from time to time, create amazing songs for their published titles. Black Summer, a piece created specifically for Dark Fracture! Listen to it below.



We’re organizing a Black Summer Remix Competition, where you can put your own spin on the track and get your remix featured in the game Dark Fracture and on the official soundtrack!




First, you head on over to https://fearfest.online/bsc and download the stems (that is, the song separated into tracks by instrument), then you get to work on your masterpiece. The song has to include at least ONE (1) element from the track. There are absolutely no conditions, genre requirements, or length restrictions except that it must be ‘G’ rated, meaning no nasty words. Other than that, you are free to include extra lyrics, raps, or other cleared samples. Once you’re done, you save your file using the format YOURNAME X FEARDEMIC ORCHESTRA – Black Summer and use the form on the aforementioned site to submit your entry. You have time until March 5, 11:59 pm CET to submit your work. After that, all the submissions will be evaluated by a panel consisting of judges from Twisted II Studio, Feardemic, and The Feardemic Orchestra themselves. We will announce the winner of the competition at the end of Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2022, so don’t miss it!



If the prospect of getting your song in the game is not enticing enough, we have good news.
