DEMON'S TILT - flarb
The development of XENOTILT directly enhances DEMON'S TILT. The past few patches we've done are actually based on discoveries we made optimizing and improving the sequel. In this latest patch we changed up how the locked / unlocked frame rate behavior works. Locked now locks at the refresh rate of your monitor (it used to lock at 60 regardless), and unlocked now is unlocked--letting your FreeSync / GSync take over. However, regardless of what kind of monitor you have, we find that unlocked combined with a few physics tweaks we made have eliminated any small amount of flipper lag people may have been experiencing--even on low end systems.

The lag on the old builds was super small, but we find that if you use the unlocked option in this build you get very little, if any. Let us know how this works for you! We've tested it internally on PC and Steam deck...and it seems to work great.

And you know....DON'T FORGET TO WISHLIST XENOTILT!

Four years ago we released DEMON’S TILT on Steam Early Access. Since then the game has succeeded beyond our wildest expectations. We’re extremely thankful to our fans across the globe for making DEMON’S TILT a cult classic worldwide. We’re sure you’ll be excited about this announcement:

GET READY FOR ANOTHER PINBALL FANTASY! This time we’ve got turbo-charged, retro inspired, face-melting video pinball in the sci-fi dimension. Come aboard the SAMARITAN, a derelict ship turned HOSTILE. Has anyone survived? Flip, nudge, and blast your way through a 3 story table loaded with Xenophage swarms, fearsome bosses, and loads of visual effects and pyrotechnics.

All of your favorite elements of DEMON’S TILT are back: the rituals (protocols), the baddies, and the INSANE CHALLENGE to battle amongst the (multi) BILLIONAIRES.

We’ll be releasing more details, including release dates and rollout plans, in the coming weeks. You may even have the opportunity to play the game at a few events! Until then, head over to the Steam page and check out the trailer, screenshots, and other game info!

We've seen a few reports of issues with Steam Deck so we're looking into them.

The first thing I noticed is the game was actually running at the wrong resolution by default. For some reason setting the resolution in options didn't do anything either. The latter was probably due to some kind of weird Steam Deck specific Proton issue.

To fix this, I updated to the latest Steam SDK so the game can detect whether it's running on desktop or Steam Deck. Now the game is forced into Steam Deck's native resolution (you'll see the resolution as AUTO in the settings) when running on device. You MIGHT have to delete and re-install the game to get this fix to really take.

You'll know you are in the right resolution if you don't see black bars on the top and bottom--also it was making the remapping panel and a lot of in game text look weird. This should all be resolved, and now you have a nice extra chunk of vertical space in the proper 16:10 aspect ratio.

I'm not actually sure how this fix will work when the dock comes out--but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

WE'VE GONE GREEN
You've had this build in your hands (literally!) for awhile now, but we finally got word from Valve that DEMON'S TILT is now Steam Deck Verified! When we first received our devkits the unpatched game ran pretty well. Still, it needed a little lovin'. Some basic things we changed:
  • TEXT READABILITY: We didn't change much of the text, but specifically for credits and the patch notes we increased the font size to make it more readable on the small screen. Addressing this issue in the rest of the GUI requires more of a redesign. Yet, all the relevant game info seems easily readable on device.
  • GUI ISSUES: We made sure the entire interface was accessible via control pad. There were some
weird focus issues where you needed to use a mouse or touch screen to access some parts of the GUI.
  • EXTERNAL CONTROLLERS: For some reason the pre-patch build didn't work with Bluetooth
controllers on Steam Deck. That's fixed now--with the dock this would have been a major issue.
  • BUGS: There were surprisingly few Steam Deck bugs--but one that we squashed was the game being stuck on medium detail mode. This inspired us to remove the detail levels as the are now totally unnecessary. Quality levels were an artifact from Early Access when the game was completely unoptimized.

Other than that, the game is just overall better with the various bugs and polish fixes we made. We're still considering some TATE options for Steam Deck. The rear buttons are user-mappable, but there probably needs to be a control rotate option like made for the Switch Lite so you can nudge properly while holding the device vertically. We just haven't found a really comfortable configuration for holding the device in TATE yet.

Ok so, it first started as a patch for Steam Deck to improve readability of a few things and some interface issues to get Steam Deck verified. But then we discovered a few things.

  • Eliminated Trigger Dead Zone: We made the analog triggers super sensitive--so now you just have to lightly touch them to flip. For people using analog triggers for flipping, this may reduce perceived lag.
  • Removed Quality Levels: Now the game is always in THE BEST quality mode. We found in some cases it was defaulting to Medium--which means a lot of you were missing out on cool color FX etc. The quality levels haven't actually been necessary since Early Access--as the game wasn't optimized at all.
  • Some UI Adjustments: We resized the patch notes, credits, and remapping screen to be more visible on Steam Deck. We also made patch notes totally accessible via control pad.
