The world of Dead Cells is getting Curse of the Dead Gods-inspired items as part of our collab’ with Motion Twin!

Back in April, we were honored to welcome our friends from Motion Twin by including a new character, three new weapons and a pretty cursed vault in a free update.

Curse of the Dead Gods and its first content patch have been officially out for a few months now and we couldn’t be happier with your reviews and feedback!

Back in February, we released Curse of the Dead Gods with its full-intended content. At the moment, our team is still debating about adding more things to the game as we are satisfied with its current state, but we’re also enthusiastic adding more of your thoughts and cool suggestions! We are adjusting with the development of a new game at Passtech and still trying to figure out at what capacity we would be able to continue working on Curse of the Dead Gods.

Not adding new content doesn’t mean not hunting some bugs! Today, here is a not-so-hot hotfix that fixes a few issues that came along with the CURSE OF THE DEAD CELLS patch!

  • 🍉 Spawn: Cannot spawn in traps at the beginning of rooms anymore

    Note: Assist mode has been deactivated on all Nintendo Switch/Origin saves because of a bug linked to the localization text. If you had a save mid-run, it will be erased. Finish it before updating! Otherwise, no general progress will be lost and you should be able to activate the Assist mode again with the correct warning message this time!

  • 🍉 Eagle Temple general balancing: We heard you! We’ve made quite a few tweaks in the Eagle Temple to try to create a more enjoyable experience
    + Less “Medium” enemies at the beginning of explorations
    + Made some enemy waves “easier” in some Weapon and Upgrade rooms
    + Spawning of enemies in Tier 3 Time Challenge rooms is now kinder
    + Projectiles from the Eagle head traps are now slower, making them easier to dodge
    + In some rooms, percentage of traps appearing has been reduced
  • General:
    + Element - Lightning: Fixed Lightning strike damage calculation, now taking into consideration all damage modifiers from triggering attack
    Design Notes: Some damage modifiers, like critical damage, were not taken into consideration when computing the lightning strikes’ damage, making them less powerful than intended. They should now always deal 50% damage of the triggering strike. Some lightning weapons’ damage has been reworked to balance the equation).
    + Gold - Challenge Rooms: Increased initial amount of Gold to 2500 (from 2000)
    + Curse - Biting Breath: Increased attack range of Eagle statues under the effect of the curse "Biting Breath”
    + Blessing - Skillful Adaptation: Skillful Adaptation is now triggered when killing summoned enemies
    + Blessing - Brutal Temper: Fixed this blessing so it correctly triggers in every situation
    + Rooms:
    • Jaguar Temple: The Exploration and Challenge rooms of the Jaguar Temple are now assigned to specific tiers (like the other temples)
    • Serpent Temple: Challenge Room in Tier 3 is now a bit more difficult (harmonization)
    + Relic - Eagle Eye:
    • Removed Rare Version
    • Very Rare version now heals 5% of critical damage dealt (from 10%)
    Design Notes: Eagle Eye was just off the charts in terms of healing potential. It should now encourage players to build a strong synergy to make the best of it rather than relying on the relic’s raw power.
    + 🍉 Curse removal: It is now possible to remove a ‘Pending Curse’ while at a Champion or Boss room. Pending Curses can be Temple-themed Curses in Mixed Explorations or Curses received while fighting a Champion or a Boss.
    + Greed Kill: Gold gain Bonus is now maxed out at x10 (+500%) instead of x20 (+1000%)
    Design Notes: Reaching x20 Greed Kill was almost only possible by using the Endless Greed blessing, thus rewarding this blessing with a huge amount of additional Gold in addition to its already powerful effects. The change should not change much gold gains without this blessing, and better balance the gains when playing with it.
  • 🍉 Enemies:
    + Blademasters: Regular versions’ HP reduced to 250 (from 270), Elites’ reduced to 750 (from 810)
    + Sentinels: Rain of Arrows attack cannot be parried anymore (consistency with other AOE attacks)
    + Soul Reliquaries:
    • Regular versions can now heal up to 2 enemies (from 3). Elite versions still heal up to 3 enemies
    • Soul Reliquaries are now less inclined to use their Siphon Beam while other enemies are attacking around them
    • Soul Reliquaries have increased recovery time after Healing or using Siphon Beam
    • Regular versions’ HP reduced to 160 (from 180), Elites’ reduced to 480 (from 540)
    + 🍉 Dreadful Offspring:
    • Reduced tracking time for their Chain Lightning attack to 1sec (from 2sec)
    • Increased attack cooldowns so they attack less frequently

    + Gold loss on each attack reduced to 5 (from 10)

Visual changes
  • Relics icons: All relics now have their own pretty icons!
    Note: We've been putting off relics’ icons for the entire Early Access period to focus on more essential features, but we've finally given each of the game's relics a visual!
    The main effect is now represented in the item's frame. In addition to the visual enrichment, this should help to better identify the relics in the UI and make it easier to remember their effects.

  • Main Hub: Pimp my Hub!
    + Starting weapons altars are now all fancy (and with a progression system!)
    + A more visual effect to the resurrection of your character
    + A lot of potteries

  • Biomes & Bosses introductions: We added a little name to all the different sections of the Temple. Champions & Bosses also now display their names during their introductions
  • Xak’ olchir, the Blood Hunter: Changed the look of his invocation portals
  • 🍉 Dreadful Offsprings: Teleportation and projectiles VFXs have been modified to make the combat more clear
  • Curses:
    + Dark Fervor: Since Dark Fervor removes the corruption cost of changing rooms, the purple glow of the doors is replaced by the color of the current temple you’re exploring
    + Gold Puncture: Under the effect of Gold Puncture, a seal marks each door to signify the payment in gold (or life) that the player is about to make
  • Weapons:
    + Spears: We added visual emphasis to the tip of Spear attacks to better convey their passive critical effect
    + Whips: The VFX of the whip off-hand combo has been reworked to better differentiate it from the charged Spear attacks
  • Stamina while poisoned: Dots representing Stamina are now green when you’re suffering the poison effect
Fixed bugs & QoL
  • Claws: Fixed a bug where you could do a charged attack with the claw without stamina
  • 🍉 T’amok’s Bones: Fixed a bug where players could stack on Constitution with the Blessing “T’amok’s Bones”
  • 🍉 Brutal Temper: Fixed a bug where Brutal Temper wouldn’t apply correctly
  • 🍉 OOB: Fixed some OOB issues, occurring mostly on the Nintendo Switch
  • 🍉 Blood Emblems: Fixed a bug where you couldn’t win a Blood Emblem after an OOB issue in the Abomination’s room

We are proud to announce a partnership with Motion Twin and Evil Empire for “CURSE OF THE DEAD CELLS”, a crossover update releasing on April 14!



This free update to Curse of the Dead Gods will add a new curse, three new weapons, and a new kind of Challenge Room, all inspired by Dead Cells.

What kind of Dead Cells-themed content can you expect?

A new Curse, the Curse of the Headless, will let players move faster while receiving more damage, with a visual twist emblematic of Dead Cells’ main character. Three new weapons inspired by Dead Cells will be added: the Sword of Conjunctivius, the Broadsword of the Knight, and the Crossbow of the Condemned. Each is fashioned after its equivalent from Dead Cells (the Broadsword, the Cursed Sword, and the Explosive Crossbow). Finally, a new Challenge Room players can find during their runs will feature Dead Cells’ Cursed Chest: you’ll have to win its challenge to earn rare items for your run, including a cursed one.



Besides this Dead Cells-themed content, more features will be coming to our game with this update! There will be a new two-handed weapon style, a new curse, new relics, and much more. More information will be unveiled soon. Stay tuned!

It's been a little over a week since the release of Curse of the Dead Gods on all platforms and we couldn't be more happy and proud of the reception! If you've been hesitant to step foot into the Temple, know that you can get Curse of the Dead Gods with a 10% discount until March 9th!

We‘re aware that some explorers have suffered from terrible Curses last week. If you had trouble with PS4/PS5 pads, achievements, and Sincere Offerings, our hotfix today has come to the rescue!

In this minor patch, we fixed (ver. 1.23.3.8):
  • 🍉 PS4 & PS5 pads connectivity: Fixed most issues where PS4 & PS5 controllers weren't recognized by the game at launch or after being disconnected
  • 🍉 Playstation UI buttons: Fixed an issue where the inputs in the HUD wouldn't display the proper buttons for Playstation controllers
  • 🍉 Invulnerability / Omnipotence / Clairvoyance Achievements: Fixed a bug where those 3 Achievements wouldn't unlock
  • 🍉 Sincere Offerings: Fixed a bug where you could pay with Corruption at Altars with your mouse when suffering this Curse
  • Gold stats: Fixed a bug where the Gold record wasn't updated in the Selection menu
Note: We expect most issues with PS4 & PS5 pads to be fixed, but if you are still encountering problems, let us know on our Discord server or in the comments under this post!

Now close your eyes, Pretenders, if you don't want to get spoiled! We are going to reveal how to drop the Eagle Champions' weapons ⚡️ We know a few of you have already found the conditions, but are still waiting for a confirmation. Here it is!

Both weapons have a 20% chance to drop if the condition is met. There is only one requirement for each Champion, and it is never too late to complete it:

K'ax Taca, High Lord of the Storm
To drop “Effulgence”, Harbinger of Yaatz, you need to inflict the fatal blow to K'ax Taca while he is attacking with his laser/lightning beam.



Malok Paal, the Flesh Monstrosity
To drop “Sunderer”, Fist of Doom, you need to perform 5 perfect dodges when he dashes.

It’s a big day today, probably the biggest of the year for us! Curse of the Dead Gods is officially out of Early Access and available in version 1.0 (actually, 1.23, don’t be surprised). Have a look at our launch trailer down here:


There are not enough words to express how we feel about the game being out, the community’s support throughout the Early Access, and the new journeys that are to come. New features
  • Mixed Temples:
    + Go through all three Temples: The "mixed" explorations have been added and allow you to browse a special assortment of the three Temples and reach the final confrontation!
  • New Hard Modes & Selection Menu:
    + The different explorations as well as the menu giving access to them have been reworked
    Notes for longtime players: "Hard" explorations have been removed from the game. The "Very Hard" explorations can be found in the "Hard" part of the explorations next to new mixed explorations offering new levels of difficulty. The "final" explorations (with the countdown) are now daily events. Daily events are now cumulative up to 3 (instead of 6).
  • New Weapons:
    + Cursed Weapon - Bow - "Effulgence", Harbinger of Yaatz
    + Cursed Weapon - Shield - "Sunderer", Fist of Doom
    Design note: Two new hidden weapons have been added. Like the other Champions’ Weapons, these can be obtained by defeating the Champions of the Eagle Temple by fulfilling a special condition.
    + Main Weapon - Throwing Weapon - Evasive Knives
  • Achievements:
    + Unlock all 30 achievements on Steam!
  • Codex entries:
    + The Eagle bestiary and Pantheon entries have been added!
Balancing
  • Introduction Champions & Bosses: A quick cinematic introduction has been added at the beginning of the Champion and Boss fights
  • 🍉 Jade Rings: Jade rings are now awarded at each victory against a Champion or Boss (regardless of the exploration chosen). The bonus for the first completion of an exploration has been removed
    Design note: Crystal Skulls and Jade Rings gains on Champions & Bosses are increased by 40% for difficult explorations.
  • Weapons:
    + 🍉 Whips: Acceleration of the "Off-hand Combo” attack. It now hits 0.1s earlier than before.
    + Spears: Slight increase in the area triggering critical hits when the attack hits with the tip of the spear
    + Shields: The charged attack now inflicts a light stun instead of a heavy stun. Stopping an enemy attack always inflicts a heavy stun. It is now possible to chain attacks with your main weapon earlier after a charged shield attack
    + 🍉 Shield - Whispering Aegis: Will no longer trigger an automatic parry during the dodge window
    + Claw - "Disembowler", Dread Claw: Base damage increased to 13 (instead of 12). Additional swirling attacks have a radius increased to 4m (instead of 3m)
    + Spear - "Vengeance", Xbeltz’aloc’s Spine: The Riposte triggered during an attack after a successful parry now inflicts critical damage and interrupts standard enemy attacks. The description has been adjusted to clarify the effect
  • 🍉 Curses: We added upsides to some Curses
    + Shadow Word: The player now deals 20% more damage in the dark when this curse is active.
    + Visions of Madness: Dodging no longer costs stamina when the hallucination effect of this curse is active
  • Blessings:
    + Brutal Temper: The time window during which you have to kill two enemies to activate the effect is increased to 3 seconds (instead of 1 second)
  • Enemies:
    + 🍉 Plaguebringer: The protection time of the Plaguebringer has been reduced by 1 second
  • Environment:
    + Balancing in the Eagle Temple’s rooms: The waves of enemies in the Weapon, Upgrade, and Challenge rooms of the Eagle Temple are a little harder, to match the difficulty of the other temples
    + Flamethrowers: Flamethrowers in the Jaguar Temple can be interrupted by a dark attack
  • Stats: A new and more detailed screen showing more statistics appears on the Victory / Defeat screen
  • Tips: Tips have been relocated to the Main Hub and can be accessible by pressing the “Map” button
Fixed bugs
  • 🍉 OOB issues: Most Out of Bounds issues have been fixed
  • 🍉 Black screens: Fixed a bug where a black screen would appear if you died at the same time as a Champion
  • 🍉 Blood Priest: Fixed a bug where Blood Priests would get stuck on spike traps.

The soundtrack for Curse of the Dead Gods will be available next week on Steam! 15 tracks of music to explore the dark Temple’s depths and fight the Champions of the Dead Gods. Composed by Léon Shelby and provided in MP3 and FLAC formats, the soundtrack will be available on February 23rd.

Hello, Pretenders!

We have some incredible news for you today! We are very excited and proud to announce that Curse of the Dead Gods will be leaving Early Access on February 23rd of 2021!

That’s right! We are planning our full release for next month and we can’t wait to reveal the ending of our game to the community! Have a look at our announcement trailer:



The Early Access of Curse of the Dead Gods has been a rollercoaster, and we are very pleased with the reception of the game. The community has grown over the months and we’re proud of what the game has come to be thanks to your feedback and reports! February 23rd marks a new chapter in Curse of the Dead Gods’ development and we can't wait to continue this journey with you.

As expected, we are planning to raise Curse of the Dead Gods’ price for the final release. We’re giving you a little heads up as you still have until January 22 to get it for its Early Access price of $17,99! Stay tuned for more news as we approach our release date!

Hello, Pretenders!

We hope you’re still having fun in the Eagle Temple that we released last month! This new temple brings its share of new content with more enemies, traps, Champions and a Temple Boss! Which of you have already climbed the Eagle’s Spire and defeated the Dark Avatar of the Eagle? We’re curious to know!



The third temple was a big step in the Early Access of Curse of the Dead Gods, and we’re so proud to have completed it in time! There are still adjustments that need to be made thanks to your feedback and suggestions. If you’re interested in our creative process, we will publish in {LINK REMOVED} next week how we made this temple!

In the meantime, here’s a selection of some cool artworks made by Valentin, our art director!



As you may have noticed on our roadmap, we’re close to our v.1.0 release! It will be synchronised with the long-awaited consoles releases and will feature the final Temple of Curse of the Dead Gods! (among other things that you can peek at on the roadmap). We’re reaching the end of the adventure, but it doesn’t mean we’ll stop working on the game. We have at least one update planned after the official release of Curse of the Dead Gods, and for the rest… we’ll have to see how the game does once out on the market!

Right now, we’re focusing all our efforts on putting an end to this incredible journey. All of our time is dedicated to adding the grand finale, polishing every aspect, and correcting bugs to make the game run as smoothly as possible. Plus, the holiday break is coming and we’ll take some time off to celebrate with our loved ones! That’s why there won’t be any update until the final release of Curse of the Dead Gods.



We’ll be back soon in 2021 with more news! In the meantime, we hope you all have a good holiday season and that you play some games with your friends and family.
