Control developer Remedy Entertainment has announced plans for two new titles in the series.

The first will be a multiplayer spin-off, currently titled Project Condor. The next will be "a bigger-budget Control game" which sounds further off.

Concept art for Condor shows a team of four players with a bagged-up enemy at their feet. Control franchise director Mikael Kasurinen said in a blog post that the image "tells pretty well what Condor is about".

In its bid to take on Steam with the Epic Games Store, the company behind Fortnite is burning through hundreds of millions of dollars on exclusives and free games.

The Epic Games Store releases free games every week, and has snapped up a number of eye-catching PC launch exclusives since it went live in December 2018.

Of course, it's expected that providing so many free games and timed exclusives would cost Epic cold hard cash - but the sheer numbers at play are eye-watering, and it's all spent at a loss.

Assassin's Creed 2

I was really moved this week to see how a small number of people have powered a profound change in games. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I often overlook accessibility in games, which isn't to say I don't benefit from it. And I assumed the range of accessibility options in modern games was simply improving because someone somewhere decided it should. But of course that's not what happened. Behind the celebrated and ground-breaking accessibility tools in a game like The Last of Us Part 2, for example, is the tireless work of a community campaigning for the opportunity to play and enjoy games too.

It's that community I watched in action this week at the accessibility in games conference, or GAConf for short, and I've rarely been around a more engaged or supportive group of people. The conference is having something of a moment, because, wonderfully, the tide of accessibility in games seems to be turning. The Last of Us Part 2 - the sparkling diamond of accessibility and deservedly so - as well as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gears of War 5, Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and Remedy's Control, are all setting industry-leading examples of what good accessibility in games can look like. There is a long way to go, but this is progress.

Good accessibility can look like high-contrast modes for low visibility, and automatic navigation and clever, spatial audio cues. It can look like assistance for aiming and movement, and the removal of time-pressured button presses and quick-reaction challenges. It can look like invulnerability, because some people like setting their own challenges. It looks like a whole suite of options you can tailor your gameplay experience with if you want to. Accessibility looks like choice.

Control Craft 2

Owners of Control's Ultimate Edition have called for refunds on PlayStation 5, where the next-gen version of Remedy's stylish shooter will now launch as part of February's PS Plus line-up.

Some fans say they purchased the Ultimate Edition alongside their PS5 and have never downloaded or played Control on a PS4. The Ultimate Edition, as you may recall, is the recent version of Control which unlocks the shiny new next-gen edition on 2nd February.

Now these fans - who in some cases double-dipped on a second copy of the game to get its next-gen upgrade - have asked for their purchases to be refunded, since the first time they will get to play it on PS5 will be the same day it launches via PS Plus.

DOOM Eternal

Microsoft has announced the new games coming to Xbox Game Pass in December.

Remedy's Control comes to Game Pass for Android and console on 3rd December (here's Donlan's Control review). Also on that date, id Software's first-person shooter Doom Eternal hits Xbox Game Pass for PC (here's Edwin's Doom Eternal review).

3rd December is a big day for Game Pass: romantic space adventure Haven, from The Game Bakers - the studio behind gloriously psychedelic arcade boss-rush extravaganza Furi - hits the service then for console and PC, as does id Software and Avalanche Studios' Rage 2 on Android.

Control Ultimate Edition

505 Games has addressed the backlash to Control's next-gen upgrade policy in a new statement that commits to its previous announcement.

Control developer Remedy came under fire when it emerged you will not get a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game - even if you own the base game and its expansions already.

A new "Ultimate Edition" package version of Control launches for PC via Steam on 27th August, and then the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 10th September.

Control Ultimate Edition

Remedy has shown a chunk of gameplay from Control's upcoming AWE expansion, which sees the return of the studio's fan-favourite character Alan Wake for the first time in almost a decade.

AWE still stars Control's Jesse Faden, now exploring the previously-locked Investigations Sector within the game's Oldest House. I had thought this add-on might venture outside - but maybe not.

The Investigations Sector has been infested by the darkness seen in the Alan Wake games, and once again you'll need to use light to defeat it. This means picking up nearby light sources or restoring power to cleanse rooms and move forward.
