Darkness falls over Cannibal Island during this ghoulish event. Put on a scary pumpkin or witch's hat, equip brand new bloody weaponry and enjoy some nighttime cannibal cooking.

All levels in both the campaign and versus mode are temporarily covered in darkness so you and your friends can scare those pesky tourists straight into the afterlife. And feed their delicious flesh to Hoochooboo of course.

Our game of co-op cooking, combat and voodoo powers is enjoying a big summer sale from today until next Monday!

It doesn't matter if you're a PC gamer or a Switch fan in the US, we've got 50% discounts for everyone!

It's a great time to introduce new friends to the series, whether you're planning on cooking together, or testing each other in competitive mode! Better sharpen your knives...

Most of you have probably noticed the Versus mode option in the main menu, but have you tried it out? You might be surprised!

Competitive mode?
The goal of competitive mode is the same as the campaign - cook the right dishes to feed your Hoochooboo. The challenge comes from the other team who are trying to feed their Hoochooboo faster... and the fact that tourists are a shared resource!

As you can see in the image above, the tourists appear in a central area accessible to both teams. This can lead to some manic melees as you end up fighting tourists and the other team at the same time! Or just run in after the other team has been fighting and swipe their hard earned meat. We're talking about 'teams' here, but you can definitely play competitive mode in 1v1!

The cooking areas are protected - mostly - so the other team can't just run in and spoil your meals, but almost everywhere else is fair game. The goal is simple, but the best way to win is more complex. Focus too much on blocking the other team and you'll not feed your own Hoochooboo enough, but it's not wise to just let them get on with it either.

This screenshot by player Katastrophy suggests that feeding your god is a better way to win than dying ;)

If you have played Versus mode, let us know what you thought on the Steam Hub! Or share your most fiendish strategies for fouling up the other team...

In many ways, making a game is sort of like cooking. You take elements of gameplay, theme, and art, and try to mix them together to create a tasty end result. But you can't just throw anything together! Some ingredients naturally go well with each other, while others don't combo nicely. Still others might seem like they wouldn't fit, but actually taste amazing. And don't even start on the controversial foods (pineapple on pizza anyone?).

For many people, the combination of our cute art style with the theme of cannibalism might seem odd. Looking at the whole dish though, you see how it works. The lighthearted art style fits with the fast paced arcade gameplay we wanted, the bright tropical setting, and the humor of the game too. But then, why pick cannibalism as a theme anyway?

In short, the cannibalism aspect offers the chance to add a bit of variety to the traditional cooking game. The fact that you have to hunt tourists makes for a clear new addition to the gameplay feedback loop along with combat, but it’s also about many small things that it allows us to do in terms of locations, story, and so on. Plus, the idea of cannibals running a kitchen also just seems funny.

The cartoon style allows us to have combat and cooking bits of people without it getting disgusting or shocking. We chose an evil god to be the one you had to feed rather than having actual human 'customers' for similar reasons. Cartoon violence has a long history, and we draw from that with the exaggerated way tourists literally turn into body parts for cooking.

You can share your thoughts on the art style (and more!) on the forums. It'd be great to hear from you all!

We’re over the moon to see you all play our game!!! The launch has been delicious and now it’s time to make the game even tastier!

This past week we have noticed some feedback on the controls, movement and difficulty of the game. We straight away started to process your feedback which resulted in today’s update!

Expect an all new improved movement system and controls, and that’s not all!
Here is the full list:
  • Adjusted controller thumbstick deadzone and sensitivity
  • Slowed overall player running speed
  • Adjusted how players react with ledges making it easier to recover when running off one
  • Made floating barrels travel slower in the jungle levels
  • Increased the amount of time a dish cook before it is no longer considered perfect
  • Added mouse support for menu navigation
  • Renamed Banana slap to Banana Grabber
  • Fixed an issue with Dash causing players to slide on walls or edges
  • Fixed various bugs with scene transitions
  • Fixed an issue preventing some non-player characters from spawning in online games
  • Fixed an issue where the tourist boss was invisible to other clients
  • Fixed various connectivity issues

Thank you for your continued support!

To close off with, this weeks highlights are GameByte with a great summary of Cannibal Cuisine on Facebook and also a video of by YouTube channel Stumpt. Fun fact: they inspired us to change one of our recipes names to Banana Grabber.

Light the BBQ, and let's get cooking!
Cannibal Cuisine is out now here (and on Nintendo Switch), and we have a 25% launch discount active to celebrate!! Play through the 24 stage story campaign with 1-4 chefs, or fight boisterous cooking battles in versus mode, where you can win by outcooking the opposition, or simply stomp them into the ground!

Hoochooboo has awakened, and he's hungry!
Unfortunately for you, he only eats human meat - with perhaps a little fruit or vegetables for taste. Test your cooking talents through locations ranging from jungles and temples to beaches and volcanoes as you try to figure out a way to defeat the cannibal god Hoochooboo once and for all! You'll have to master an increasing range of recipes at the same time as facing ever more dangerous 'kitchens'. If that wasn't enough, every area ends with a 'boss battle' posing a unique challenge that might not even be cooking related!

Got questions? Check out the FAQ, or hop on our Discord.

Sounds good? A deadly tropical paradise and Hoochooboo's dark hunger await!

Games often change in the course of development, sometimes radically. We're releasing Cannibal Cuisine tomorrow (!) and the game has come a long way. While our core concept for Cannibal Cuisine hasn't shifted from when the team first came up with the idea, some of the individual parts have.

For instance, initially an idea was floated to structure the levels differently. We would have had an area where you had to lure and sneakily kill tourists, the kitchen area and a delivery area. However, this became too complex and too much to handle. However, there are still the seeds of a few good ideas here, and maybe we can bring some of that back as bonus levels.

Some of the styles for the player characters were adjusted too. That's part of the reason you have concept art of course! You can see in the image below, the machete and mask from image 3 made it into the game as one of the cosmetic hats and weapons, but your chefs don't wear aprons, and the rather creepy hood from the left image didn't make it in either. It's cool artwork, but ultimately didn't fit the overall atmosphere we were aiming for.

Another element that got some reworking was multiplayer! Networked multiplayer can be taken for granted with modern videogames, but it does take some effort to get it working well! Our programmer Niels aka Jonesah says: "The networked multiplayer is something that I personally am very proud of. It was a lot of hard work and required massive rebuilding and tweaking but I’m very proud of the result."

Finally, there are the ideas and inspirations which didn't make it into the game because of time constraints. We have lots of things that we'd still love to do if we get a chance. More features, more content, more everything. No promises mind you!

We'd also like to say thanks to everyone who has been playing the open beta and who took the time to comment on the game, whether it's here on Steam, on Reddit, on Discord, or wherever! The open beta will be closing soon ahead of the full release tomorrow. We hope you're as excited as we are!

We love hearing from players and just laughing and having fun with the people who enjoy our game. So please share your thoughts and ideas on the forums, or come chat with us on Discord!
