Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009)

A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare player has used a spectator glitch to explore the game's battle royale map.

Redditor KingBeezoR used the glitch, which is triggered within a private game with free spectating and the spawn camera enabled, to free roam high above the recently-added Vacant map.

Vacant is a fan-favourite map that first appeared in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. What's interesting about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare version of Vacant is it's set within the Massive Ground War map, Port of Verdansk - and it's this feature that means you can use it to explore the upcoming - but so far unannounced - battle royale map.

Plans to offer Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Gunfight in both a 1v1 and 3v3 mode are coming "at some point".

When asked on Twitter if there were plans to introduce 3v3 squads to the shooter's popular Gunfight, Joe Cecot - co-design director of multiplayer at Infinity Ward - revealed that not only is a 3v3 option Call of Duty: Modern Warfare coming to Gunfight, but 1v1 is also on its way, too.

For now, Cecot can only say they're coming "at some point" in the future, but hopefully, we'll get a firmer window soon (thanks, Comicbook).

It's Christmas come early for Call of Duty fans, as the launch date for Modern Warfare's first season has been revealed - along with a significant amount of free stuff. So much free stuff, in fact, Infinity Ward has labelled it the "biggest free content drop in Call of Duty history". Although, I'd argue raining men from spawns also qualifies for that category.

Starting 3rd December, Modern Warfare players will have access to a host of new maps, including three new multiplayer maps, several 2v2 Gunfight maps and a new Ground War map. There's also two new weapons - the RAM-7 and Holger-26, new multiplayer modes Reinforce and Infected, and a variation on Gunfight mode called On Site Procurement, in which players begin a match with just their fists and gather equipment as the match progresses. On top of that, there's a range of new Spec Ops co-op missions, including one called Pitch Black which involves infiltrating Barkov's former estate.

Personally, I'm excited to see the return of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's maps Crash, Vacant and Shipment - which fit nicely into the reboot theme of this Modern Warfare. You can take a look at the preview for the content in the tweet below, and find a more detailed roadmap on the Call of Duty website.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has had a tough week.

Expectations from those within the Call of Duty community were high for this week's patch, but it disappointed many, and even included a line, seemingly left in by mistake, that preempted the backlash.

But that's not all. A series of leaks from dataminers and other sources have given us a look at potential new maps and even a first glance at the upcoming battle pass - and Activision has issued copyright notices in a thankless bid to have them scrubbed from the internet.

Anyone who's playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's competitive multiplayer portion will know about the dreaded 725.

This shotgun has plagued multiplayer since Infinity Ward's first-person shooter launched. The issue: with the right attachments, it's a sniper shotgun.

Infinity Ward has so far struggled to get the balance right with the 725, issuing multiple nerfs that have, at times, had unintended effects. A nerf on 11th November actually ended up buffing the shotgun, and it continues to dominate certain maps.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been datamined to within an inch of its life, revealing a raft of details about the inevitable battle royale mode.

Over on the Modern Warfare subreddit, notorious Call of Duty leaker Senescallo posted the massive map for the battle royale.

Other images revealed by Senescallo set the scene for the battle royale, which is reportedly due out early 2020 and is co-developed by Infinity Ward and fellow Activision-owned studio Raven.

If you've poked your nose into the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare subreddit of late, you'll have noticed almost non-stop complaints about the game's multiplayer - mostly centred on map design and overpowered weapons. Thankfully, Infinity Ward is releasing a patch today which should tackle some of these problems: and finally calm down my Reddit feed.

The big addition in this patch are the two new maps, Krovnik Farmland and Shoot House, which have been added to Ground War and Multiplayer respectively. Both maps are free, and you can get a small glimpse at the thumbnail for each on the official Call of Duty Twitter. Hardpoint mode - which requires players to take control of changing hardpoint locations - has also been added to rotation.

If you do fancy splashing your cash, however, we now have a date for the Modern Warfare battle pass, which is coming out in December.

There's a lot going on with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A lot that's good, a lot that's bad and plenty in between. Overall, the developers at Infinity Ward have done a fine job reestablishing the once titanic Modern Warfare sub-brand with this "soft reboot". But, at launch, this is a game of potential. It is not the finished article.

Let's start with the good. Modern Warfare feels fantastic in your hands. Guns pack a real punch, their recoil meaningful and realistic. They're loud - as they should be - and distinctive. The audio work here is impressive - hats off to the sound designers at Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare is one of the best-sounding first-person shooters I've ever played.

The reload animations are superb. I love the way you save a clip you haven't run dry for later with the same hand you replace it with. I love the way gun barrels smoke after extended fire. I love the way scopes actually magnify what you're looking at. The M4A1 assault rifle, an early favourite for multiplayer, is the most sickly sweet Call of Duty gun I've fired in years. Aim down sights and squeeze that right trigger, snappy, fluid and satisfying. Call of Duty has always been a wonderful game in which to fire a virtual gun, and Modern Warfare may be the best in the series for it. But something weird happens when you take your firecrackers out into the field - and I'm not sure it's a good weird.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is finally here, and to the surprise of literally no-one, we already have another debate on our hands. This time, the game has been accused of rewriting history to place blame for controversial real-life US attacks on the Russians. Suddenly Sony's decision to avoid selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in the Russian PlayStation Store doesn't seem so surprising.

This article contains spoilers for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign.

One mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's single-player campaign puts players in the shoes of Alex, a CIA agent embedded in a pro-US militia, who undertakes a sniping operation overlooking a valley full of burnt-out vehicles. That valley, and the name of the entire level, is called The Highway of Death - which the game says earned its name after the Russians bombed it during an invasion, killing those who tried to escape.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward has responded to a strange Tactical Insertion glitch that teleports players to their deaths beyond the confines of the map.

U/radi115 shared a video entitled "Tac inserts are bugged" that has since been upvoted over 1,300 times in order to flag the attention of the developer. After using the tac insertion, it shows the player spawning continually outside in the restricted area. Every five seconds they die, then respawn out of bounds again.

Some Reddit users posit the issue is caused because the player placed the Tac Insert near a vehicle, but others who've experienced the same bug insist it can happen even if you do it in an open area, too.
