Awesomenauts - the 2D moba - SmugPorky
Let’s talk about Awesomenauts,

We want to take a moment to address the current state of the game and share some exciting news about our efforts to bring Awesomenauts back to the players. While we haven’t shared much publicly until now, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes ever since Atari acquired the game last October. Our mission at Atari is to preserve and celebrate the games players love, and Awesomenauts is no exception.

When we took over from Ronimo, the game was not in a sustainable state—both operationally and economically. Quite simply the game costs far more to support than it made in revenue because of the way it was engineered and hosted. We've dedicated some time and money into re-engineering the backend services so that the game can be operated cost effectively. We're excited to say that we believe we’re close to a solution.

Although there’s more work to be done, we want to share our current roadmap with you:

Today: Back to Awesomenauts 3.2.8

Starting today, we are moving version 3.2.8 of the game to the main branch on Steam. For those of you familiar with the beta code version, this is now publicly available to everyone without needing steam access codes. While this version is missing the past four years of live ops content, it is the most stable and playable version available to us. Please keep in mind that this is a temporary solution.

Characters that are no longer available:

  • Snork Gunk
  • Qi'Tara
  • Commander Rocket
  • Smiles
  • Dizzy
  • Samuel 'Deadlift' Gains
  • Max Focus
Features/functionality that are no longer available:

  • Matchmaking improvements since 3.2.8
  • Rejoin or get locked out of matchmaking after alt-F4 or crash
  • Custom games browser
  • Online Replays and live spectating
  • Parties which persist across matches
  • Weekly Brawls matchmaking queue
  • Co-op vs. bots matchmaking queue
  • Global Chat
  • Dailies
  • Online currencies and unlocks (unlockables include characters, drop pods and icons)
  • Some modding features
  • Balance adjustments since 3.2.8
  • Simplified Chinese translation
Looking Ahead: Galactron Version Testing

Following the 3.2.8 release, we’ll be launching a Galactron Test Branch. This branch will gradually implement content from the "Galactron" version of the game (the state it was in when the servers were shut down.) We’ll need your help testing this version to ensure it’s stable and playable.

As we work to restore characters and features we will be making updates to the game’s code which may introduce bugs or break some functionality. We’re relying on the community to be patient with us through this process and encourage you to provide feedback and issue reports. Your input will be crucial in ensuring Awesomenauts returns to its best possible state.

Our goal is to reestablish as much of the original experience as possible.

Access to DLC Content

Once the Galactron version is restored, any DLC that was previously purchased will be available. For example, if you purchased a skin in the past, you will have access to use it again.

Thank You for Your Patience

We understand that this has been a long road, and we truly appreciate your patience and dedication to Awesomenauts. We’re committed to restoring much of the game to its former glory, and we can’t wait to celebrate its return with all of you.

Stay tuned for more updates, and we’ll be counting on your feedback in the months to come!

Thanks for sticking with us,

– The Atari Team

Hope everyone has had a good year and enjoying the holiday period! A new Nauts season will begin at around 15:00 CET on Thursday 22nd December.

Expect to be matched with mixed skill levels in the first few days. Newer players who have played fewer than 100 games will automatically get a reduced rating so higher-ranked players are avoided. All other players will be reset to a rating of 10,000.

This reset only influences your leaderboard ranking. You’ll keep any character and account progress you’ve made.

Good luck in your games and happy holidays! 🎄

The Awesomenauts Arena League is returning for a 3rd iteration! The tournament will consist of group stage qualifiers taking place on the weekend of November 5th and 6th. Teams that advance to the playoffs will play in a double elimination format on the weekend of November 12th and 13th.

Every participant will receive an Awesomenauts skin or announcer of their choice, with the options pool increasing the deeper your team makes it in the tournament. Players in teams that place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be rewarded the appropriate in-game Rumble Medal, while the 1st place team can choose between the Lens Flare Cat Medal or the Gold Rumble Medal.

Hi everyone, the issues in the previous post seem to be fixed! We still don't really know what caused the issues (or what fixed them) so we will keep a close eye on them.

Please do let us know if you are still experiencing these issues. If you would still like a refund on any recently purchased DLC, please create a ticket with Steam Support.

Once again, we are sorry for the inconvenience. We are going to try to do something as an apology for these issues (depending on what we can do and what is allowed by Steam), so keep an eye out on this space!

Hi everyone, we have some unfortunate news. Since Monday 19th September, a host of issues popped up in Nauts and we have very little idea as to what caused them. We have contacted Steam and are also looking into this ourselves. But considering that this seemed to have happened out of the blue, we do not yet know how to approach solving the issues, so do not have an estimate when these issues will be fixed. We will keep you updated if we have any new information.

Problems experienced:
  • Free Nauts rotations differ for different players.
  • Nauts do not unlock using in-game currency. Error message “Purchase failed: Could not grant Steam DLC!”.
  • Redeemed Nauts, skins, and other items do not show up in-game for players.
  • Purchased Nauts, skins, and other items do not show up in-game for players.
  • Prices of Nauts, skins, bundles, and other items show up as “$0,00”, even though they are correctly priced in the Steam store.
  • Players are only able to choose the default skin option for each Naut.
If you have recently purchased Nauts DLC and wish to get a refund, please contact Steam Support and create a ticket for the item(s) in question.
One comparatively fortunate factor is that matchmaking is not affected, so players can still play the game with Nauts that have already been unlocked, or are currently on the free rotation.
We apologise for this inconvenience and will keep you updated once we find out more.

Awesomenauts turns 10-years old on 1st August 2022! We would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey with us!

Anniversary Stream
On Thursday 4th August, we will be celebrating with our community on our Twitch channel at 7pm CET, 1pm ET, 10am PT.

6 devs will be playing in an internal tournament live on stream where we will once-and-for-all crown who is the best dev at Awesomenauts! We will play 3 games of Nauts with an individualised scoring system where teams are reshuffled after every game. The winners of each game receive 3 points each, while each player who receives a crown will get an extra point, regardless of being on the winning or losing team. After each game, teams are shuffled so the point totals per team are as equal as possible. Winners of game 3 will get 4 points for the win, and each crown earned in game 3 is worth 1.5 points.
As part of the stream, we will also be assembling a 3D printed Clunk figurine (see below) as well as painting one. A 3D-printable Clunk figurine is our present to this awesome community, for more details, see the “Anniversary Present” section below.

We will also be raffling out 3 original Clunk figurines during the stream. As usual, shipping is on us!

Anniversary Tournament
The Nutty Nauts tournament series has returned for a 5th iteration! Matches will be of a standard 3v3 format and will take place on the weekends of 13th August and 20th August.

For more details, check out this Steam post, or join the Nutty Nauts Discord.

Anniversary Present
We know the Clunk figurine is a very sought-after collectible and it has not been available since the initial pre-order many years ago. For the 10-year anniversary of Awesomenauts, we decided to make the Clunk figurine 3D printable and accessible to everyone who has a 3D printer, has access to a 3D printer, or wants to use a 3D printing service to acquire a Clunk figurine. You can find all the relevant files, instructions, and recommendations in the #announcement channel in the Ronimo Games Community Discord.

To add a little caveat, there are a few of us at the studio who are 3D printing hobbyists, but by no means do we consider these to be professional quality. To make the Clunk figurine 3D-printable, we separated the figurine into 10 individual parts, slightly tweaked them to optimise them for 3D printing, and also added pegs for easier assembly. We also test printed and assembled the Clunk figurine using a resin (Photon S) 3D printer and a filament (Ultimaker 2 Extended) 3D printer. We will also be assembling and painting 3D printed Clunk figurines on the 10-year anniversary stream on 4th August.

In the picture above, the original Clunk figurine is the one that was available for pre-order years ago. The one on the right was printed using a Photon S resin 3D printer with the same part sizes as in the raw files. The one on the left was printed using a Ultimaker 2 Extended filament 3D printer.

In our Discord, we have provided the raw files of all the parts, a template for resin 3D printers, as well as recommendations and instructions for filament 3D printers.

For resin printers, we have also created a 120mm by 68mm (4.7” by 2.6”) template including print supports tips of 0.5mm (0.019”) thickness. This template allows all the parts to be printed at once for resin printers. This template can also be scaled larger, if the printer you are using allows it. This is the template that was used for the Clunk figurine in the picture above. This file can be opened and modified with Chitubox Basic, which is the free software we used to create this template. Other softwares are of course available. The Clunk figurine printed with the resin 3D printer is printed at the unaltered size of each part in the raw files. Assembling this Clunk was relatively easy. Once the parts dried and the supports removed, it took no longer than 45 minutes.

For filament printers, we included print orientation recommendations and print instructions for each individual part. The Clunk figurine printed with the filament 3D printer is printed at 150% of the size of each part in the raw 3D files. Theoretically, the raw files can be scalable to be either larger or smaller.

We found the assembling process more finicky with the Clunk printed with the filament printer. The pegs that connect the different parts together are designed to fit “perfectly”, but there will always be a margin of error in the printing process. So once all the parts are printed, there is a chance that they will not connect perfectly with each other, so we recommend to do some level of sanding and drilling, as well as applying glue to each connection point for extra structural integrity. We will be going through this process on stream on 4th August so there is a good reference point for people who would like to undergo the process of 3D printing and assembling a Clunk figurine of their own.

Please keep in mind that removing supports, assembling figurines, and generally handling 3D printed objects and potentially sharp plastics can be dangerous and cause injury if not done properly and carefully. Ronimo Games is not responsible for any injuries or loss of life that may occur.

If you decide to print off your own Clunk figurine, be sure to share it with us on Discord, Steam, reddit, Twitter, and/or Instagram! We are very excited to see all the different Clunk figurines!
