American Truck Simulator - Tiktak

Welcome back to another episode of SCS On The Road! This time, Nemiro, Mark, and Oscar take you along on their visit to the Mack Experience Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

First and foremost, we'd like to thank Mack Trucks for inviting us to their legendary Experience Center, and also to Zach Fenstermacher and Doug Maney, who showed us around.

In this episode, we explore their showroom, browse the merch store, and visit the museum to dive into Mack's rich history - and see not just trucks, but also buses, fire trucks, and even Megatron from the Transformers movie. To top it off, we had the incredible opportunity to get behind the wheel and drive some of their trucks on the impressive test track. Now, without further ado, let's watch the video!

And that's it for today. We hope you enjoyed this episode, and again, huge thanks to Mack Trucks, who made it all happen, so make sure to return the favor by following them on X/Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Remember to follow us as well on X/TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube, so you won't miss out on any new SCS On The Road episodes. We'd also really appreciate it if you could sign up for our newsletter to stay informed, even when you're not able to check out the blog or our socials. Keep on trucking!

American Truck Simulator - [SCS] DuFF

Today, we’re taking another look at the upcoming American Truck Simulator map expansions, this time focusing on South Dakota. Just like in Illinois, our map team has been hard at work recreating some of the truck stops across the state that serve as essential points for rest, refueling, and taking in the local surroundings. Let’s see where the road might take you.

While exploring South Dakota, you’ll discover a variety of truck stops scattered across the state. Drivers can look forward to taking a break and refueling in towns and cities like Buffalo, Spearfish, Martin, and Murdo, each offering its own unique atmosphere.

Rapid City, the second most populous city in the state, features a truck stop situated close to the highway and with a view over a massive industrial complex.

The next truck stop by the town of Wall stands out with its name inspired by the “natural wall” of rock formations near Badlands National Park. Here, drivers will be greeted by the town’s signature high dinosaur statue, keeping watch over US-14 and offering a truly unique landmark.

Sioux Falls, the most populous city in South Dakota, features a truck stop located along I-90, as well as a nearby truck dealership and a driver staffing agency. Within the city, make sure you visit the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial, which honors the state’s military history and serves as a place of remembrance.

In Huron, the truck stop sits not far from Ravine Park Lake. Drivers stopping here will also notice farming machinery nearby, highlighting the strong agricultural traditions of the area.

Watertown features a city truck stop located not far from its signature Art Center building, a cultural landmark that adds to the local identity.

And finally, there is Bison, a town platted in 1907 and named after the American bison that once roamed the land in great numbers. Here, we have to highlight a small regional airport nearby that gives this stop a distinct atmosphere.

We hope you enjoyed this look at truck stops across South Dakota. As always, keep in mind this expansion is still in development, so details may change before release. If you’re eager to explore these locations yourself, don’t forget to add the South Dakota DLC to your Steam wishlist. And be sure to follow us on X/TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube, or subscribe to our newsletter for more previews. We’ll see you on the road!

American Truck Simulator - Tiktak

More news from the Pelican State! In today's blog, we would like to show you some of the road networks currently in the works for the upcoming Louisiana DLC for American Truck Simulator. Let's take a look!

First, let's start with two toll gates you will regularly pass through. The first one is located in the very south of the state on LA-1 on the way to Port Fourchon. You will come across the other toll gate on the northern bank of Lake Pontchartrain, right at the entrance to the stunning bridge, which is actually the longest continuous bridge over water in the world, spanning almost 24 miles across the lake to New Orleans.

As you cruise along I-10, cutting across Louisiana from east to west, you'll pass through the breathtaking Atchafalaya Basin, the nation's largest river swamp. Here, the highway rises above the water, offering sweeping views of classic bayou scenery.

Two other major road hubs in Louisiana are I-20, which runs east to west across the northern part of the state through cities like Monroe, and I-49, which stretches north to south all the way to Lafayette. The two highways intersect in Shreveport, making it a key crossroads for travelers.

Beyond the interstates, you'll navigate your truck through a mix of complex intersections, particularly in major cities like New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, as well as a handful of roundabouts.

And that's it for today! Remember to add the Louisiana DLC to your Steam Wishlist and don't forget to give our X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok a follow as you'll receive updates about our games straight to your feed! Or subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed. Smooth rides ahead!

American Truck Simulator - Tiktak

Today, we are happy to share that the 1.56 Open Beta branch for American Truck Simulator is now available to try and test out. If you plan on participating in this Open Beta, we would truly appreciate it if you could help us by reporting any bugs you may encounter in the appropriate section(s) of our official forums. Your feedback and reports really aid our team, and we would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to help us out.

Alongside this, we'd also like to mention that our teams are currently adapting to a new internal update cycle. Because future console releases will require us to lock in content earlier, this adjustment helps us better coordinate timing across every platform. It's a step toward greater consistency, and we're confident it will keep things running like clockwork.

It's also worth noting that while today's blog highlights some of the most visible changes and new content, there is always a lot happening behind the scenes. From preparing for consoles to laying the groundwork for upcoming projects such as the Coaches expansion for ETS2 or the Road Trip project for ATS, our teams are working hard to build the future of our games.

Now, without further ado, let's take a look at what the 1.56 Open Beta has in store.

Height Blend

Height blend effect is a technique used to create more realistic and visually appealing transitions between different types of terrains or surfaces, like grass, dirt, or stone. It works by utilizing a height map texture, a grayscale image that represents the elevation of a surface, to determine how different textures blend together.

For example, where a grassy hill slopes into a rocky cliff, the height blend effect ensures the textures mix naturally based on the terrain's height and slope, avoiding harsh or unnatural edges. For map designers, it eliminates the need for many decals, which previously had to be added to achieve a believable look, saving time and effort.

Under the hood, our team has converted, tweaked, and visually checked over 1,300 materials from our library to ensure seamless integration.

Dynamic Cargo Improvements

We are expanding the dynamic loading and unloading feature to cover more cargo types. Truckers using their own logger or chipvan trailers will now see a material handler dynamically managing their loads at selected depots across the USA. The logger's cargoes - large tubes, logs, and utility poles - as well as the chipvan's metal scrap, are now included in this feature to make your trucking experience more immersive.

Camera Zoom - Hold/Toggle

The 1.56 update also brings a small but welcome accessibility feature. Players can now choose whether the interior zoom function requires holding the key (the default) or can be switched to a toggle mode. This option not only adds convenience but also improves accessibility, offering a more comfortable way for all players to take a closer look at the details inside their cab, in the mirrors, and around their truck. Players can find this feature in "Options → Gameplay and Options → Accessibility".

DLC Browser

With the 1.56 update, we are also introducing a brand-new design for the DLC Browser. This redesign aims to make browsing and discovering additional content for your game easier and more enjoyable, while also giving you a better overview of what each DLC has to offer.

The updated browser now features improved categorization, with clear sections such as Featured, Bundles, Map, Cargo, Trailer, Accessories, and Paint Jobs. The main layout has also been refreshed, increasing the number of items displayed per row from three to four for a cleaner and more modern look.

The DLC browser is just the beginning of a feature with the potential to grow and evolve further. While it may take time and development to see how far it can go, the vision is to make it possible for players to explore and enjoy all of our DLC without ever leaving the game. Please keep in mind that this feature is still deep in the work-in-progress stage.

New Profile Creation and Start-up Flow

We're giving the profile system in Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator a big refresh, which includes a new UI design and improved navigation. The old table-style list of profiles has been replaced with larger, card-like slots that give a cleaner and more modern look. Your active profile will always appear at the top, with your other careers sorted by most recent playtime. The first slot is reserved for starting a brand-new career, and switching between your profiles is now quicker; simply double-click on a card to jump right in.

Whether you're a new player or a seasoned veteran, the profile creation process has also been redesigned to be simpler and clearer, focusing only on the most important options and selections needed when starting a new career.

A new Truck Preference screen has also been added between selecting your headquarters and the opening cutscene. Here, you can preview all available trucks in a rotating 3D view that spins automatically, or rotate them yourself. You'll be able to cycle through brands, switch between different models, or even press a “random” button to let the game surprise you. We hope this new preference screen gives both new and experienced players a detailed look at each truck and its key specifications.

We've also refreshed the Edit Profile screen, which now focuses only on details that really matter for your career. Many of the older fields have been moved elsewhere, keeping the editing process simple and uncluttered. To make things more convenient, clicking on your profile from the desktop top bar now opens a new Driver Details screen, where you can view all the important info about your career and even change your avatar without having to return to the title screen.

This redesigned approach not only makes profile navigation smoother but also gives the whole experience a cleaner, more modern feel. Whether you're starting your very first trucking journey or managing multiple careers, we hope this update makes your profile management more streamlined and accessible. Please note that this feature is still very much a work in progress.

Management UI/UX Improvements

In the Company tab on the Desktop, the Driver, Trailer, Truck, and Garage Manager screens now feature a redesigned company subscreen. The refreshed company subscreen shows the company name and logo alongside key statistics, a redesigned seven-day profit graph, and highlights of the most profitable assets. It also introduces an economy summary pop-up for quick performance review and a company properties option for editing the name and logo.

We've also added a quality-of-life improvement to the relocation screen: when both a driver and their truck can be placed in the same garage slot, a checkbox allows relocating them together in one step. To improve accessibility, the Garage Manager and Driver Manager are now unlocked from the very start of the game, rather than only after purchasing a truck.

Finally, the Driver Manager subscreen has been polished with a clearer layout, including a new XP bar that lets players track their NPC drivers' progress, and a simplified job information and skills overview, where you can assign a collective preferred training policy for newly hired drivers. Please remember that this feature is still deep in the work-in-progress stage.

American Truck Simulator - [SCS] DuFF

In the last edition of the Illinois: Truck Stops blog, we introduced you to a few stops and rest areas that you can look forward to in the upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator. We hope you're ready for the second batch today!

Our first stop today takes us to the city of Rushville. Here, you’ll find small shops and local businesses to explore, adding to the charm of this small-town setting.

Another location offers a unique scenery with a shopping center perched above the highway on I-90. This rest area also provides easy access back to the interstate from both sides, allowing you to quickly get moving again.

Traveling along I-64, you might find yourself at a small, peaceful rest area surrounded by open fields. It’s a quiet corner of the Prairie State where you can relax for a while before continuing your route.

Just outside Gilman (also known as The City of the Crossroads), there’s a big rest stop along US-24 featuring multiple places to rest and refuel. Whether you need a quick stop or an overnight stay, this location has all the facilities a driver could want.

Finally, we arrive in Effingham, home to a large truck stop surrounded by shopping centers and malls. This is an ideal spot to stock up on supplies or take a short break before you roll out again.

We hope these previews give you a glimpse of what’s waiting for you in Illinois. As always, keep in mind that the DLC is still in development, so some details may change before release. If you’re excited to explore the Prairie State, don’t forget to add this map expansion to your Steam wishlist. And of course, stay connected with us on X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok, or subscribe to our newsletter for more updates. Keep on truckin' and we’ll see you on the road!

American Truck Simulator - [SCS] DuFF

The upcoming Louisiana DLC for American Truck Simulator will take you deep into the heart of the American South, a region defined not only by its rich culture and unique landscapes but also by its intricate network of waterways. And where there are waterways, there are bridges!

In today’s blog, we'll be showcasing a selection of iconic bridges that you’ll be able to drive across in this upcoming map expansion. These structures aren’t just impressive feats of engineering; they are crucial lifelines that connect Louisiana’s cities, industries, and communities. And yes, we’ve made sure they look just as grand in-game as they do in real life!

The mighty Mississippi River slices right through Louisiana, and crossing it requires some truly monumental bridges. Among them is the Horace Wilkinson Bridge in Baton Rouge, the highest bridge over the Mississippi and a vital link for both local commuters and long-haul truckers.

Further south in New Orleans, the Crescent City Connection offers a dramatic skyline view as you roll into the heart of the Big Easy. Farther along the Mississippi, the Huey P. Long – O.K. Allen Bridge (also known as the Old Bridge) offers another scenic and historical crossing.

One of the most striking bridges in the DLC is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the longest continuous bridge in the world. Trust us, hauling a heavy load over this expanse feels as epic as it sounds.

Out west in Lake Charles, drivers will encounter the Calcasieu High Bridge and Calcasieu River Bridge, vital connectors in a bustling industrial corridor, surrounded by pipelines and the hum of refinery life.

The Houma Twin Bridges give you a glimpse of the coastal lifestyle, while the Leeville Bridge and the Louisiana Highway 1 Bridge lead you deep into southern Louisiana’s marshy edge.

Add to that the Simmesport Bridge and the stunning Veterans Memorial Bridge, and you’ve got a diverse lineup of spans that each bring something special to your trucking journey through the Pelican State.

Every bridge in Louisiana DLC tells a story of commerce, connection, and character. From towering steel arches to sturdy river crossings, these landmarks are a defining part of the state’s landscape, and we can’t wait for you to drive across them, take in the views, and maybe even snap a few screenshots along the way!

Stay tuned for more previews as we continue to reveal what’s in store for American Truck Simulator -  Louisiana. In the meantime, don’t forget to add the DLC to your Steam Wishlist and follow us on X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, and TikTok, or subscribe to our newsletter for more behind-the-scenes content, teasers, and announcements.

American Truck Simulator - London

A couple of months ago, we announced that we had begun work on the South Dakota DLC for American Truck Simulator. Today, we're excited to shine a light on the talented individuals behind the project by introducing the team working on this upcoming map expansion!

Saimon

"I've been working at SCS Software for almost nine years, and for most of that time, I’ve been leading our DLC projects. This role included designing the overall layout of new expansions, choosing all the cities, truck stops, landmarks, as well as coordinating the work of our team, collaborating with other departments, and supporting the growth and motivation of my colleagues.

After years of working on multiple DLCs, the time has come to pass the torch to some of our talented and ambitious teammates. I’m now transitioning into a new position as an Art Lead, where I’ll focus more on broader aspects of map development, ensuring visual consistency, improving efficiency, and coming up with fresh ideas and unique content for the ATS world.

I'm truly excited about this new chapter and I believe it will help us deliver even more polished and immersive experiences for our players."

Vacky

"Something about me? I’ve been at SCS for over five years now. I’ve always loved playing games since I was a little boy and dreamed of designing them one day. Dreams do come true! Among my favorite titles are old school classics like Red Alert 2, Caesar III, Age of Empires 2, Heroes of Might and Magic, World of Warcraft (Classic), and many others. From newer games I enjoy Cities: Skylines, Stellaris, Elite Dangerous, Transport Fever and lately, I’ve been slowly getting into soul-like games. When I am not playing something on my computer, I am painting and playing Warhammer miniatures – specifically The Old World at the moment.

I was really looking forward to working on South Dakota since our research trip in the USA, and now I’m really happy to be working on Rapid City and its surroundings."

Tony
"I was lucky enough to visit South Dakota in person and experience its diverse landscape firsthand. I was especially drawn to the mountainous regions in the western part of the state; Black Hills left a truly strong impression on me. That’s why I’m excited to be in charge of bringing this area to life in our game. I’m working to capture not just the unique terrain, but also the atmosphere that made the place feel so special during my visit."

Draky
"My name is Draky, a nickname that reflects my passion for mythical creatures and animals. I'm a creatively inclined person who enjoys visual arts, painting, and design. I usually spend my free time playing video games, especially those focused on survival or puzzles. Some of my favorite physical activities include archery and acro yoga. I'm currently working on a visualization of the Sioux Falls waterfalls, which captivated me at first sight. I believe they’ll captivate you too. My next stop will be the Badlands, and I’m incredibly excited about it!"

Evgeny
"South Dakota is the fourth DLC I’ve worked on, and with each new project, I challenge myself to push the boundaries of what I can create in the map. I always try to bring something fresh to both my work and the player experience. My personal life strongly influences my approach.

I’m passionate about hiking, which helps me craft more immersive and natural landscapes in the game. My background in architecture gave me a deep appreciation for designing cities and settlements with structure and character. I also enjoy drawing, painting, and calligraphy, which helps me focus on the beauty of detail and how it all fits together within a bigger concept. On top of that, endurance sports like triathlon have taught me how to stay committed to long-term goals, manage my time, and maintain mental resilience. Each of us on the team brings something unique to the world of ATS, and I’m proud to contribute with my own perspective."

Morrys
"After the awesome Iowa project, which received great feedback, we’ve jumped right into South Dakota. It’s a state that offers a lot, and you know it! Here’s a little hint about one of the things I’m working on and really enjoying. It’s a location not far from the Nebraska border and the Missouri River.

Anyway, since the last article ("Iowa - Meet the Team"), I feel there’s been progress. I’d say my work has reached a new level, both technically and visually. At the same time, we’ve also become a bit more in sync as a team, which is great, and I’m looking forward to the projects we’ll tackle in the future.
Of course, work isn’t the only thing I do! I have a strong connection to sports thanks to my background as a professional judoka, and I try to stay active as much as I can. I also enjoy some quiet time with a good movie, whatever the genre (though sci-fi is my favorite).

Last but not least, I love gaming. Some of the very first games I played as a kid were DOOM 2 and the flight simulator MiG-29 Fulcrum. To wrap it up, I wish you lots of successful contracts and plenty of miles logged in ATS!"

Viki
"I’ve been working at SCS for almost 3 years, during which I’ve worked on several map DLCs. I started with a few smaller tasks in Oklahoma, then worked on Nebraska and Iowa from start to finish, and I’m currently working on South Dakota.

In my free time, I enjoy 3D modeling and printing, creating cosplays from movies and video games, playing D&D with friends, and of course, playing video games!

I hope you’ll enjoy driving through the streets of Brookings, Hot Springs, as well as part of the Black Hills including the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I love creating authentic and detailed scenes that I hope you’ll all have fun exploring. The rest of the team and I are looking forward to giving you the best possible way to experience the beauty of South Dakota."

Fregar
"My real name is Petra. I'm from Prague and I've been working at the company for almost five years. In my free time, I enjoy drawing and painting, it helps me relax and express myself creatively. I'm also a fan of Warhammer, which combines strategy, storytelling, and miniatures I enjoy painting. Swimming is another passion of mine; it keeps me active and clears my mind. At home, I take care of three parrots: Sofi, Iggy, and Mona, the newest addition to the family. She's still settling in, but already showing a lot of personality."

Maky"It will soon be three years since I started working at SCS as a map designer. My first contribution to the game was on Texas 2.0, followed by work on Nebraska, Iowa, and now South Dakota. Within my team, my speciality, responsibility, and personal passion is designing truck stops. Outside of work, I love going to concerts and festivals, music is one of my greatest joys. I also enjoy building LEGO sets and other model kits, playing board games and video games, and reading. Lately, I've even been thinking about getting a pet snake!"

Kaja (Citymanlive)
"It's time to set out on a new journey – this time to South Dakota! Staying true to tradition, I'm currently working on a town whose name is quite similar to the one I worked on in Iowa. Thanks, Saimon! While creating – or more accurately, while currently “mayoring” the town – I enjoy a good cup of coffee… though not as much as I enjoy the company of my colleagues. In fact, it's really them who give me the greatest inspiration and energy. Together, we make up one big, leveled-up team, and I truly believe there's a lot to look forward to!"

Eren
"This is my third Map DLC. In South Dakota, I'm responsible for two areas: Sioux Falls, the state's largest city located in the east (besides the local waterfalls, which are being worked on by Draky), and Spearfish, situated on the edge of the Black Hills. I chose the former mainly to further develop my technical skills related to building large cities, while I took on the latter for its picturesque, hilly landscape covered with coniferous forests.

Starting with this DLC, I'm also taking on the role of Road Designer, specifically an interchange designer. It's probably a good thing I’m starting here, since there are mostly basic interchanges in South Dakota and the complex ones will only come later in other states. It’ll be a kind of level progression, and honestly, I’m looking forward to it."

Theo
"In the upcoming South Dakota DLC, I have the honor of building the city of Yankton and the surrounding area. I’m really enjoying the open landscapes and river scenery, this part of map creation is my current favorite, probably because I just enjoy being outside in real life, whether hiking or going for a walk. (Though I also like a quiet evening with a good book or video game!) Since American Truck Simulator blends gaming with exploring the world and its beautiful nature, I feel lucky to be part of a project like this!"

Eevee

"Hi! I'm Ivana, aka Eevee. I've always been interested in art of all kinds, whether it's drawing or painting, video games, music or even just coding silly websites. One of my biggest inspirations is and always will be nature. I love hiking, foraging, collecting trinkets outside, and just the outdoors in general. All of my hobbies combined have made me try joining the ranks of map designers here at SCS, and luckily, here I am!

I've been here for a little over half a year by now. On the last project – Iowa, I've only worked on a small part of US-20, and mostly did work in later development stages there, since I came here just a few months before the Iowa DLC release. Now I'm working on an entire part of South Dakota, around the northern borders. I like the open scenery so far, and have been working on a small city as well. I can only hope the players will like it as much as I'm enjoying working on it!"

Miya
"I joined the team recently, and South Dakota is my very first project. My passion for art is what brought me to SCS! For years, I’ve dedicated myself to illustration and drawing, often inspired by my favorite games across fantasy and simulator genres. Joining SCS feels like the perfect combination of everything I love.

Right now, I’m working a bit on everything, which I really enjoy. It’s a great opportunity to explore and find what suits me best!"

We hope you enjoyed reading these messages from the team working on South Dakota, shared with you, our #BestCommunityEver! If you're excited to hit the road in the Mount Rushmore State, be sure to add it to your Steam Wishlist. We truly appreciate all your support and look forward to sharing more about this upcoming DLC for American Truck Simulator. Until next time, keep on truckin'!
