A Cheesy Game - Levhi
How's life my cheesters?

First, let's address the serious stuff:
I hope you're taking care of yourself and your friends/family/people that need it. The outbreak is no joke and, as a PC cave-dwelling, sweaty, lard-covered goblin I can only recommend staying inside, being cautious and not taking the situation lightly. Although many of you may not necessarily be at risk, let's remember our behaviour will, whether directly or indirectly, affect and potentially put at risk people with lowered immunity, seniors and anyone otherwise vulnerable to the virus. STAY SAFE. THINK. BE RESPONSIBLE.

Although the first part made have somewhat spoiled the mood for this post, let's plough through like the champs we are!

NEW WESTERN-THEMED ADVENTURE COMING IN 2020
It's probably a year or so since I've heard the song "Raw Hide" on Spotify and decided, then and there, that I need to make something wild westy for A Cheesy Game - and so here we are!
The new adventure, working title 'BONANZARELLA', will take you to a little cheesy backwater town where you'll meet familiar characters in a new setting. Unlike SPOOKFEST, my plan is to make this adventure more about puzzles, talking with NPCs and separate platforming challenges that you'll need to finish in order to complete the overall quest. The approach will be similar to the campaign mode but hopefully better executed given my additional experience.
In short, the idea is to make you a newcomer in town and give you a mystery to solve that will have you jumping on carriages and trains, shooting stuff and riding a mouse to the sunset while encountering a hefty amount of Wild West clichées and, of course, cheese puns!
BONANZARELLA is still in its early stages and nothing's set in stone, my goal atm is to release it this summer.

A WEEKLONG DEAL FOR A CHEESY MEAL
It's been a while but we're back with a weeklong deal, hoping more people will join the cheese ranks. The game's still very much alive, getting new content periodically and evolving with each new update. Cheesus knows it's not perfect but I'm trying to make it better and better :) If you know anyone who might enjoy our little cheesy platformer, let them know! Or buy it for ye mum, when was the last time you got her something? Well, there you go! What do you mean she won't want a video game about cheese? She'll love it!

SEE YOU NEXT TIME, REMEMBER WHAT WE DISCUSSED ABOVE <3
If you've read this far, you're amazing! Take care, be careful but also kind and help where you can. If you have something to share or just need to have a chat, whether game-related or not, feel free to reach me on Facebook :)

Oi! Happy 2020 everyone!

First, I want to thank everyone who participated in the Spookfest event! Congrats to everyone who ranked on the leaderboard, incredible form! As promised, the winners got/will get prizes for their achievement.

Secondly, I have exciting news! A Cheesy Game's got its first community level! As the head of quality assurance (and only member) of cruTony, I decided to beat it and assert myself as the ultimate champion - and it didn't go smoothly. You can watch me play the level, made by Ak1yu, here:

I had a lot of fun while playing the level and must acknowledge the skill and care that went into it - so I'm happy to present Ak1yu with the "God's Creation' hidden achievement. Well done!

Try beating the level yourself or create your own and post it on the game's Steam Workshop. I'm looking forward to "beating" more community levels ;)

Thirdly, we got ourselves a new patch. This one's tiny and mainly concludes the Spookfest event, removing the event cauldron from the main menu. Fret not, however, for the Fort Roquefort level remains playable and can be now reached from the "Play" selection screen.

The Spookfest event challenge will return in 2020, updated, longer and even more challenging than before.

Last but not least, we got a sale happening! If you know anyone who might like this little cheesy platformer, then let them know! The more, the merrier! Also money! <3

Ace 2020, you magnificent beasts!

A Cheesy Game - Levhi
Hi everyone!

Today we have two things on the old, cheese-stained agenda.

First: a big ol' welcome to everyone who recently purchased the game! Welcome to the party! Your support means a lot as it fuels my drive, projects and thirst for caffeine. Feel free to get/keep in touch on my social media - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram ;)

Second: some info about the latest update that released last week. Here's the main stuff:
  • A WHOLE NEW MAIN MENU - fully interactive with the player character, new music
  • The Game's Very First Event (Spookfest2019) - features listed in the last update
  • Added new UI to Spookfest2019, event leaderboard can now be viewed in PAUSE menu
  • added an achievement obtainable through the event
  • new "Better Performance" option in Spookfest pause menu (-some particle effects;+FPS)
  • much-needed fixes to the Level Creator
  • fixed/reworked some UI elements (e.g. point counter in Shop/Menu)
  • code optimization (should increase performance but new particle effects might counter it)
  • new promotional media (graphical assets made to accommodate the new Steam Library + a new video made to better represent the updated game)
Phew! So that's the list! I hope you'll have fun :)

Don't forget: whoever wins this year's Spookfest event wins a free game!!! So get in there and show us what you're made of!

Thanks again for buying, playing and reading the stuff I make <3

Stay awesome,

Tony

A truly spooky day to you!

Your favourite cheesy game now features its very first event, which includes:

  • the game's very first proper boss fight;
  • a special new score system; and
  • integration of Steam Leaderboards!

So grab your bib, stuff your cheeks with cheddar and head out to Fort Roquefort! Work your way to the top of the leaderboard for a special reward! :O

The event will last until the end of November :)

Praise Cheesus for it's finally here!
Hey folks, hope you're all doing well but more importantly oh mY GOD RELEASE DAY IS UPON US!!!

Phew, got a bit excited there...

I want to again send a big 'thank you' to everyone and anyone who had supported the game so far and a warm potential 'sup' to all of you who are currently considering it.

This is the first game I have ever made and so the emotions are high. The EA period was quite a journey and the game kept evolving into the hot steaming pile of cheesy goodness before you today.

Changes during the Early Access phase:
  • Level Creator fully integrated with Steam Workshop
  • More gruesome gadgets: e.g. the Mouse Cannon, cleavers...
  • Added the "split" mechanic, allowing players to cut their cheese in half
  • Expanded gamepad support
  • Added "Controlls" explanation screen to the Pause menu
  • Added "Vegan mode" (selectable at character creation)
  • Considerably expanded level 1
  • Rebalanced some mechanics (e.g. point system, level numbers)
  • Fixed a cheese cart full of bugs

Quite a list! Hopefully, you'll have fun with the game. Despite all its changes, it remains a silly and light-hearted platformer inspired by the games I played as a kid.

I am moving on to other projects (trying to make money to buy more cheese) but I will remain active on the forums and will fix/add stuff if needed :)

Stay cheesy, y'all!

How's it gouda-ing, people?

Alright, that was dreadful - I apologise...

Anyway, I know it's been a while since the last update and for that I'm sorry but no need to pout for I have returned with some exciting news!

Seeing the Cheesy Game has only recently achieved double player digits and no input or suggestions have been submitted, I decided to fully release the game next week and move on to other projects - if you want to see what I'm up to, check the Kickstarter page for my new philosophical god-like simulator Vis Maior".

That being said, I am not abandoning the game! I believe it is now in a state where a full release is warranted, with an extra level, new mechanics and local co-op added since the launch of EA, and offers enough content and fun for its price.

I'll be squashing the last few bugs I'm aware of in the coming week and will post more info once the game is released :)

I want to wholeheartedly thank everyone who had already bought and played the game, it means a lot to me and - if there will ever be calls for it - I would be thrilled to add more stuff in the future.

You rock, stay cheesy! <3

Hi everyone!

Hope 2019 is going your way so far. I apologise for taking my time with this dev post but university work's keeping me busy. If you have any questions or tips for the game, just remember you can always reach me on social media :)

I've been thinking about what I want the game to be for the past two weeks and I decided on what will most likely be the full release version of the game. This includes:
  • still 5 levels of the campaign but the levels will be extended and each will be twice as long
  • a simple yet powerful level creator to allow players to create the stuff of nightmares for others to overcome
  • fully voiced characters - this will need a partial re-record of some existing lines ("quality" reasons)
  • two new mechanics - the canon (asset) and cheese split (gives players the ability to split into two slices of cheese and tackle puzzles in an easier manner - this will require some tweaks to the local-coop feature)
  • at least one boss fight (preferably two)

As you can see, there's still a lot of work for me to do :D With that being said, this does define the plan for the full release and is subject to only minor tweaks.

What do you think should be prioritised? Should I first polish the level creator or start working on the additional campaign content? Any suggestions will be welcomed :)

I leave you with a gif of a mouse, flying through the air after being shot from a canon - coming soon!

Stay tuned,

Levhi

It's time to call your mum and save big money because the local Co-op update is here and it brings with it the first cheesy Steam sale ever!

Get ready for the patch notes:

1. Added local co-op!
  • press F10 or connect a 2nd controller to activate
  • play with your mum, a buddy or play with yourself
  • dynamic camera with a chance of split-screen fun
  • good for parties (I think) or for tackling challenging parts of the game

2. New minor level creator features
  • added groovy tunes for that music-inspired creation
  • you can now determine where both players spawn within your levels
  • fought an army of bugs and won

3. Improved menu UI
  • now makes a plop sound
  • words get bigger :O

That's all for now, folks! This update was quite a challenge for me but hey, here we are! If you find any bugs or think of any cool new features you'd like to see included, be sure to let me know here or on Facebook (link in the game).

There have been a few changes in my plans for future updates and I will soon adjust the roadmap accordingly so that you know what's coming and let me know what you think.

Right now, it seems the next update will focus mainly on the core features of the game - and add A GIANT MOUSE-FIRING CANNON!!!

Thanks for reading this, here's a new pic for your trouble:

Stay cheesy,

Levhi

Hi everyone! Hope you're enjoying the holidays!

Since we'll all be partying like there's no tomorrow tomorrow, I thought I'd give you a quick update on the coming new feature - the local co-op mode - today.

The good news is - it's coming real soon, so you better watch out! There had been a few bumps on the road to making sure it's working within the entire game but the whole campaign and any potential future levels added to it are now fully compatible with the feature and await release.

The not so great news is that implementing the feature with the level creator is a bit tricky. The idea is to give you the tools to create co-op levels that anyone can enjoy with their friends on the couch and at some point in the future online.

To bring this to an end, the promised local co-op feature will be rolling out sometime next week. You can expect a new dev post once the update goes live :)

Stay festive and party it up,

Levhi
