What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are debuting a fully working game with most features complete to get feedback from a broader range of players than our existing test teams.

The game is a unique turn based strategy title in that we have no tech trees or base building, research & development in the system. It is a purely small unit tactics game in the spirit of real-world training programs the lead designer has helped develop for US DoD elements conducting special operations missions OCONUS.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our estimate is 12-16 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will include between 4-6 maps, each playable with 3 distinct game types. We are also continuing to refine the graphics, further pushing the atmospherics of a polluted war torn sprawl that is the game's Operations Area.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A fully playable experience with all core features implemented including: a complete set of polished animations for a variety of units(non-combatant, opponent and player units), functioning rule system for our first game type(Raid) and a single level with a basic lighting system to play on.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Initial pricing is based on current content available. As more content is built and added to the title, prices will increase towards the final MAP.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We currently have a Patreon only Discord with which we are actively engaging in dialog with the community about our goals, how the design serves those goals and what ideas for improvement the players have to create a more natural experience given these objectives.

Being a small team, we have found a live interaction works best. With the Early Access launch, the intent is to continue with live QA/Discussion sessions on our Discord (which would be made available to anyone who purchases the title), and additionally maintain an ongoing dialog through the Steam forums for our title.”

About This Game

The near present. Following the invasion of Iraq, Private Military Contractors(PMC) become the preferred instrument of foreign policy by Petro-Monarchies in the failed states of the Middle East. Staffed with US special operations combat veterans, PMC select, train and lead armies of local nationals in conventional and unconventional warfare operations. Combat actions conducted by the contractors are not considered acts of war. They are matters of foreign internal defense.

Black Powder Red Earth® is a minute-to-minute turn-based tactics game set in a proxy war between the dictatorship of a failing petro-state and a brutal jihadist insurgency. Fighting in war-torn urban sprawls, players lead an enhanced capability advisory and enabler unit, conducting kinetic actions with full lethal surrogacy to accomplish their missions.

Developed with the support and advice of Special Operations combat veterans from the Commanders In-Extremis Force and by the designer of the Decentralized Battle Space Program, Black Powder Red Earth® has no tech trees, base building or R&D mini-games. It focuses entirely on meaningful tactical decisions that influence the outcome of raids in urban environments.

Step into the event horizon of chaos and discontent, now.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:
