What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Radio Violence is, first and foremost, a passion project developed by a small, dedicated team. Development of the project began at a game jam in early 2018, and in the time since then we have shaped it into the experience you see here. When we began, the idea was to try to take one of our favorite genres, the strategy game, and create something unique in the space. We wanted to remove the barrier of entry that typically comes with strategy games, which is a steep learning curve and lengthy gameplay sessions, and replace them with intuitive controls and quick, digestible rounds of play. We have a lot of ideas for how we would like to expand Radio Violence, but in the meantime we want to share the local multiplayer experience we have developed so far. Our objective in early access is to get a copy of the game out to early adopters who would like to enjoy the game in its current state.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At the outset our goal is to have the game completed roughly 8 months after entering early access. That being said, the priority for us is releasing a complete, enjoyable game. If this requires us to extend our time in early access to achieve this, then we will be transparent throughout the process. We want to capitalize on our time in early access, learn and work with a community of passionate players, and ultimately release the game. We have no intention of remaining in early access for an indeterminate amount of time, and will do our best to update our community each step of the way.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final release of radio violence will contain two major gameplay additions.

  • The first is an online multiplayer mode, complete with mouse and keyboard support. The purpose of this mode is to give competitive players (we know you're out there) an opportunity to flex your muscles online. True to the rest of the existing game, we would like this online space to be a flexible, customizable space, offering players many unique ways to play online. When the first version of this mode is ready we intend to release it to our early access players to test, provide feedback, and help us shape the experience.
  • The second major addition is a single player mode that would offer players a more story driven experience, while using the traditional mechanics in unique ways. That is to say, a single player campaign to play when you don't have a buddy or two to spare. This is a stretch goal of ours, and is the most likely candidate to extend our stay in early access. In the same time frame that we intend to bring online multiplayer to a playable state, we would like to release a snippet of the campaign. Based on player interest and feedback we can decide if this is the type of content players would like, or if they would prefer us to focus development on our local and online multiplayer modes.

Lastly, throughout early access we intend to release new game modes, features, and general content for our early adopters to play with. As this content reaches a playable state we will patch it in with more frequent updates than our major goals. This is a rolling goal which will be built up over the entire duration of early access, and likely beyond release as well. We hope that by release there will be enough content to keep even the most engaged players busy.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of Radio Violence is strictly a local multiplayer experience with full controller support. It contains a variety of game modes, supplementary features, and a base kit of towers for 2-4 players to enjoy in the same room. If possible we highly recommend enjoying with 4 players, a couch, and a TV. You know, the way it used to be.

Currently there is not:
  • A single player version of the game.
  • An online multiplayer version of the game.
  • Keyboard and mouse support. Controllers ARE required to play.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During early access Radio Violence will be priced at roughly half of its intended price at release. As major pieces of content are added that we feel give the players significant value, we intend to incrementally increase the price accordingly. An example of this would be once the planned online multiplayer mode is in a stable, complete state. We only intend to increase the price of the game before release if there becomes a significant disparity between what the game offers, and what we feel the game is worth. Any price changes would be announced to the community well in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would like to include the community as much as possible during the early access phase. Throughout early access we encourage players to check out our development blogs, which we will be regularly updating on our website and announcing on Steam. We are in the process of getting forums online as well to let players post their own questions, ideas, and feedback for the game, and will be making use of Steam's community features to collaborate with early adopters as best we can.”

Opening Salvo: Early Access

After a slight hiccup, we're ecstatic to announce the early access release of Radio Violence on Steam. In its current incarnation, Radio Violence is local multiplayer only and requires controllers to play. That said, a few of the things that are coming down the line as features going forward include:
  • Online Multiplayer
  • Single player / vs. AI play
  • Mouse and Keyboard support

With all that said, we'd love to hear your feedback on the game, so feel free to drop us a line on any of the various social media platforms at @nosleepsoftware, or drop by our twice-weekly No Sleep Twitch stream on Monday and Friday at 8PM EST.

About This Game

Radio Violence is a multiplayer "tower offense" game for up to four players on the same screen. Build radio towers to spread the influence of your cheeky dictators and take control of the board in this fast paced, action-strategy battle for supremacy!

An unsettling calm has shrouded the world. In the wake of a great war, an international armistice binds a temporary peace among the rival nations of the world. Democracy died in the war, and a cast of charismatic dictators — who lead their people through a veil of manipulation and propaganda — has risen to fill the power vacuum. The war may have gone cold, but that hasn't stopped these cunning leaders from finding... alternative ways to influence the people. No nation has the military strength to conquer the world by force and so, in times of hardship, the people turn to the radio for guidance from their glorious leaders.

Who says a strategy game can't be the life of the party? Radio Violence is a real-time strategy game that replaces hour long bouts with bite-size, action packed rounds. Played on a hex-board, players start with a small group of tiles and are tasked with taking over the board. This is done by building a variety of radio towers which influence the board, converting nearby tiles to your glorious leader's color. Spreading your influence means growing your territory, but be wary! It's a competitive world out there.

When opposing borders meet, it becomes a battle of influence decided by quick thinking and careful placement of towers. The tide of battle can change quickly — with triumphant victory or crushing defeat ever hanging in the balance — but don't be discouraged! A wide variety of customizable game modes, features, and tower loadouts offer near limitless possibilities. Learn the ropes, challenge your friends, master the tower, and achieve radio supremacy!

  • Master a unique brand of strategy we call "tower offense". A procedurally generated game board offers a new challenge each play.

  • For a quick round with your friends, choose from a variety of preset game modes. Each one offers a different way to win using the same core mechanics.

  • Got the hang of it? Build yourself a playlist of modes. Want to spice up your games? Add unique features to any mode to change how it plays.

  • Found a combination of features you like best? Make your own custom mode to include them for easy access!

  • Make a loadout of towers to bring into each round. Experiment, and see which ones suit your play style.
