What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a great program that will allow Miner Mike to continue to be developed while still being able to be published. Early Access grants users the ability to try new features and give direct feedback. This feedback will shape the future of Miner Mike.

Currently, there are plans to add more mining mechanics. These include air strikes and laser strikes. These mechanics will allow the player to mine quicker, while still being able to enjoy an old fashioned explosion.

In addition, Miner Mike is expected to receive a moon level. After completing the rocket, Mike will fly to moon to discover what type of shenanigans are happening up there. Upon arrival, Mike will discover a hostile alien species that he will have to fight off in waves.

A rough draft for the future of Miner Mike has been drawn, but the community has the ability to change the outlines, and color in the future of Miner Mike.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Miner Mike will be in early access for approximately a year. As soon as the moon level is complete, Miner Mike will most likely leave early access stage. However, there will be a tremendous amount of flexibility during that time and the timeline could change. If the community is super involved, anything could happen.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“One feature that is planning on being developed is the air strike. This feature will allow Mike to drop bombs on multiple blocks in the x direction. This feature should help the player clear out a large section of space, faster than the pickaxe could.

Another tool in the works is the laser strike. This feature will allow mike to call a laser strike on a coordinate. The laser will destroy the blocks below that coordinate with the goal of achieving depth rather than width.

The moon level is the main feature that needs to be developed. This is the final stage for Mike. He will fight waves of enemies with no end in sight. Variations on aliens and weapons will increase variation in game play. Upon death, the player will have completed the game. However, no need to fear as random generation will allow for repetitive play through.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“See the "About This Game" section to find out more information about Miner Mike.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The current price will be increased after leaving early access. However, the price will not significantly increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will play a huge role in the development of Miner Mike. As an indie developer, I have no requirements that are enforced on me. Therefore, community involvement is an utmost priority. I post almost weekly updates on my KickStarter page. In the game, I provide a button so users can take a google doc survey. This survey allows the user to leave feedback without any struggle at all. There are sections in the survey where the user can suggests new features and also leave their email so I can get back to them. Community feedback is important to the development of Miner Mike so I made it as easy as possible to get feedback from the community.”

About This Game

Miner Mike is a 2D mining game, where Mike has to gather enough resources to buy a rocket. With that rocket, Mike can finally figure out what is really going on up on the Moon.

Mine and collect minerals. Be careful not to take too much damage, otherwise all of Mike's hard-work will be all for nothing. When Mike's inventory is full, sell his findings at the local General Store.

Alternatively, you can take Mike's iron and coal over to the local Smeltery. With a couple of coins and a little time, Mike can turn that useless iron ore into iron bars. Furthermore, those iron bars can be turned into steel bars. Technology has really gone beyond comprehension.

Sell Mike's new alloys at the store for a little bit more of a profit. Or, Mike can donate his iron and steel bars into rocket development. Eventually, Mike might be able to make it to the moon, to find out what's really going on up there.
