What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Liminal is a challenging and potentially confusing game. All the current mechanics--the doors and lasers--can be understood just by solving the game's current puzzles, but we will be continuing development so we can maximize the clarity of the mechanics, especially using community feedback.

We also have a feature we want to add (cubes which fall through the doors based on their own internal gravity) which increases the potential complexity of the game significantly. We want to add this challenge, but we'll need community help to make sure our existing tutorialization is strong enough to support adding more things to learn!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until December 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Over the next 5 months, we plan on adding a complete new area with new puzzles to showcase a new mechanic (and critter!), as well as new cinematics. This planned new mechanic will involve changing the gravity of a secondary object in order to use it for platforming challenges.

In addition, we're planning to continue to significantly polish the early parts of the game to make the mechanics and even controls easier to understand.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of the game contains all the features detailed in the "About This" section of our page. Players can reach and complete the final puzzle of the game. However, the additional spaces planned for the end of the Early Access period will help players to more fully understand the tools at their disposal, as well as present new extra challenges.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. Liminal will always be free.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll be paying very close attention to our community Discord channel! We'll be actively fixing any issues the community brings up to us there or in the reviews here, as well as considering their suggestions. In particular, we'll be on the lookout for players confused about how mechanics work, or who have ideas to show mechanics more clearly. If you're playing Liminal and you do or don't know what's going on, let us know!”
