What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We need feedback into how the game plays and how we might make it amazing from as many people as possible. It's a very strange and different mechanic and we need to make sure it makes sense and is appealing to people.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are a non profit that trains adults on the autism spectrum to make games and software, and as such we have to adopt a "finished when it's finished" approach as we are still training our team! However, we need feedback so we know how to proceed as we go into beta. Our tentative release time is summer of 2019.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“- More Levels
- More Cars
- Enhanced 3D assets
- Refined Gameplay mechanics”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This is our Alpha release. It contains the main mechanics, working AI and a single player story system with a world map. It also has 6 playable cars and we plan to have a beta release with all of our features included and a final with everything polished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price from a dollar to roughly the cost of a cup of coffee.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“WE NEED FEEDBACK! This mechanic is nothing we have seen before so we want to be sure it is appealing to people and our internal testing group is not going to cut it. Join is in the forums and leave your comments!”

Update 0.2.1 - Bug Fix and Improvements

Update 0.2.1 - Bug Fix and Improvements

Hello, Light Riders!
Today's update resolves issues of not being able to press the Play button in the Track Select screen by moving the Track Info Panel from a 3D view to a more stable 2D view which eliminates any "blindspots" the Play button has in a 3D view.

We are continuing to take feedback from the community and up our game. We have updated the SFX for "Glitch Patches" that are not as drastic and will be sound heard in both headphones, not just the left side. A new music track has been added as well and we hope to continue updating our music and SFX drastically over the next few updates.

Thank you for the continued support and feedback! We are excited for the future of this title and look forward to creating more great content for the next update.

Full list of features and improvements are below.

About This Game

Cheat Your Way to Victory
Light Rider is a high speed top down racer with a twist. Bypass opponents and obstacles using your spectrum drive, different color dimensions where the track is ever so slightly different and objects with colors at the other end of the spectrum become invisible and incorporeal. Shave seconds off your lap times with the clever use of the shifting ability to bypass long looping tracks or a time consuming switchback. Do this and you will fly right through the competition, literally.

Powered by Autism
Light Rider is made by adults on the autism spectrum at the nonPareil Institute. At nonPareil, autistic adults gain digital technology skills in various domains and work toward building games and items for the digital marketplace. While doing so, our members also acquire social and vocational skills preparing them for success in higher-education and employment settings.
