What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Sumo is a passion project made by a pair of former big-studio developers with a desire to make something of their own. We set out to make something we would be interested in, which for us usually means games of a smaller scale you enjoy with your friends. Early Access gives us the opportunity to get real player feedback and help scope out what further changes are needed and which direction to focus on for new content. Do you think the game needs more characters? More Arenas? Alternate game modes? Polish specific aspects of the current game? Try it out and let us know!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“6-12 Months. We are not looking to be a long-term Early Access title.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will differ based on player feedback! We feel our Early Access build presents a complete (though small in scope) game, and we want to expand what we have. Our players will help shape what type of content we deliver based on feedback, whether that be in the form of new characters, new levels, new game modes, or focusing on polishing the existing offerings.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently feature and content complete with 8 characters and 4 arenas to play in, each with unique mechanics. The Skirmish game mode (free for all against all players) is the only mode available and can be played with any number of AI-controlled Bot opponents. The number of characters, levels, and game modes is planned to grow over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“At this time, our plans are not to change the price between Early Access and launch (temporary discounts aside).”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As we did in our former roles as public designers on a live big-studio game, we plan to listen and respond to community feedback from the Steam forums to help shape the direction of content creation for future updates.

Head over to the community boards and let us know what you'd like to see changed or to post bug reports!”

About This Game

Sumo is a multiplayer physics-based party game for up to 4 players, where players use their wits, special abilities, and spherical physique to wrestle your human or AI opponents over the edge of irrationally hazardous Arenas. You have only one objective - Be the last sphere standing.

Fast-Paced Action

Each of Sumo's spherical combatants is deceptively maneuverable -- dashing and jumping to juke attacks and hazards alike. Do your best to snap up Boost Orbs to power up your devastating ability, before your round rivals do.

Unique Arenas

Each Arena in Sumo offers creative ways to send your opponents careening off the edge. But beware, all Arenas continuously collapse, leaving only one player victorious. In Sumo, look forward to unceremonious ring-out by such things as:

Pressurized pipe-blasts of the WaterWorks!

Incoming meteors in Sumo in Space!

Runaway trains in Railway Rumble!

... but be sure to knock your friends into all of them!

Multiplayer Mayhem

The longer you survive, the more points you get! The first to reach the point goal wins. In Sumo, ties cannot be tolerated, and are settled with the white-knuckle, rapid-fire Sudden Death round!
