What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Apex Hunters is an ambitious project developed by a small but dedicated team. Early Access gives us the opportunity to gather valuable feedback early in the development process so we can iterate and improve in real-time with data straight from our players.

It is worth the reminder that Apex Hunters is in active development. The Early Access experience is not representative of the final product, and as such you will encounter bugs and incomplete features.

That said, we hope you enjoy it, and we look forward to your feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current roadmap has us planning to move Apex Hunters out of Early Access by Q3 2019”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full release of Apex Hunters, we are planning on to develop multiple maps (regions) to prowl, dynamic weather conditions, a fully fleshed-out procedural mission system with a variety of randomized goals for players to accomplish, player customization (models, etc.), and a player progression system which allows for each member of your Field Team to define their role according to the abilities and weapons they choose to take and upgrade. We will also consider adding more dinosaur species, weapons, and equipment over time for depth and variety.

Be advised that these are our plans, but may not 100% reflect the final product. In addition to cutting features, it is possible that features will be added which are not enumerated here.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As of the Early Access launch, Apex Hunters has the following features:
  • Seven different dinosaur species (plus variants) with intelligent AI that can dynamically form packs, share information, and outflank prey
  • One map with two variants (times of day and weather conditions, both static)
  • Hunt Mode, where players freely explore, hunt, and complete objectives for several proof-of-concept procedurally generated missions
  • Survive Mode, where players defend a key location against increasingly difficult waves of dinosaurs
  • Three weapons: Rifle, shotgun, and pistol, along with a tranquilizer rifle and your trusty fists. Ever feel like knocking a dinosaur unconscious with your bare hands?

Please note that all game modes (Single-player, online Co-op, and local Co-op) require a Steam connection for now, but we consider LAN support to be extremely important.

This list represent the features as of Beta v0.3 (The initial Early Access release)”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Apex Hunters will see a small price increase at the end of Early Access, but our goal is to keep the price friendly enough to encourage groups of players to pick up and enjoy the game together.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Team CPRC will be actively engaged with the community via the Steam Community, gathering feedback and sharing information through Announcements and Community Group posts. You can also reach out to us via our support e-mail, or get in touch on Facebook (/apexhuntersgame).

We will use your feedback to refine the game and broadcast any major modifications or additions to the roadmap for community discussion. Let's join forces to forge the ideal co-op dinosaur hunting experience.”

State of the Apex - August 17th, 2018

To the Apex Hunters,

The 17th of each month shall henceforth be known as State of the Apex day. Except in situations where the 17th is inconvenient, or perhaps when the date lands on state/federal holidays, or the post is simply forgotten...

But today we remember, and look to the future.

The first month was filled with much scrambling, refactoring of code, and marveling that certain features and mechanics worked at all. Yes, it's true what they say: "No code withstands the first public scrutiny."

Despite the very real struggle, we pushed live such features as Locational Damage for those ever-so-satisfying headshots, the Lobby Browser to help bring players together, and an Always Run toggle which was suggested by some early Field Agents who moonlight as MMORPG aficionados. (Thanks to Dorkasauras @ and his crew for the feedback and support!)

So what do the upcoming weeks and beyond hold? Let's take a look at the handy-dandy, deliberately vague Percentage to Completion list!

Percentage to Completion list for August 17th:
  • Additional resupply locations around Cascade - 70% complete
  • New weapon (Revolver) - 60% complete
  • Spawner Pools/Randomization for Survive waves - 50% complete
  • New mission type (Asset Retrieval) - 40% complete
  • Intro/Outro, win conditions - 35% complete
  • Death cam (orbiting camera to spectate living teammates) - 20% complete
  • Sound mechanic (Dinos react to sound) - 20% complete
  • New dinosaur (Pterodactyl) - 10% complete
  • Throwable Items - 10% complete

Please be advised that the Percentage to Completion is not necessarily a guarantee of the order in which future updates will arrive, or whether they will even arrive at all. Upcoming content is subject to change without warning. As is the case with Early Access, the best laid plans may not come to fruition.

Long-term considerations haven't seen much progress while we’ve been crushing bugs:
  • Improvements to the Player Character motor (No more bounding up sheer cliffs to touch the sky's rim) - Exploring options, nothing concrete
  • Improvements to AI pathfinding - Exploring options, nothing concrete
  • Full offline LAN support - Will still require Steam in offline mode, using non-Steam lobby functionality
  • Story mode - Focused single-player experience. Learn more about the CPRC, and what happened at the Iridium hot lab. This is a long ways off, much closer to the full game release.
  • ERROR: ANOMALY - Time assertion invalid [Purging buffer . . . (68 65 20 69 73 20 77 61 74 63 68 69 6e 67) . . . Done!]

Leave a comment on this post with your thoughts on the State of the Apex, or make your way over to the dedicated SotA discussion thread to open up a dialogue. This is a team effort, and we're thankful for your feedback and support. We hope you enjoy your time with Apex Hunters as much as we enjoy putting it together.

Good hunting, Field Agents.

About This Game

Hunt dinosaurs. With friends.

Apex Hunters is a single player/cooperative multiplayer game that pits players against the most intelligent, formidable, and brutal predators in history.

And then there's the herbivores. They're pretty chill until you shoot them.

Key Features:
  • Intelligent Dinosaur AI - Dinosaurs will dynamically form packs, share information to coordinate attacks, and outflank their prey
  • Team Building Exercise - Form a Field Team with your friends and assert dominance over the dinos
  • Varied Environments - Roam across kilometers of mountains, forests, and valleys, at different times of day and in different weather conditions
  • Play How You Want - With multiple game modes like free-form hunting and exploration, procedurally generated missions, and fighting off waves of dinosaurs, there's something for everyone

While dinosaurs themselves are not paranormal, the means by which we resurrected them is.

The Center for Paranormal Research and Containment needs your help. There's been a security breach at a remote hot lab codenamed "Iridium-6," flooding the region with hundreds of live specimens.

That's where you come in.

A commissioned CPRC Field Team made up of freelancers and guns-for-hire, your objective is to recon the area and take charge of the situation by any means necessary. Complete tasks for the Center, and you will be rewarded.

But with all other agency resources committed elsewhere, there will be no backup to save you if things go south. Keep your eyes up and weapons loaded.

Good luck, Field Agents.
