What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game isn't close to being in a more finalized state yet. We're open to take lots of criticism! Players regularly report our bugs to us that we record onto a list, fix one by one, and then patch and we want to continue this support!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Possibly a year or two. We'd like to get tribes, more hunting, a more perpetual world, and a less buggy environment before we pull the game out of Early Access / Alpha.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of CS will have more features, get a regular stream of users, and have a more palpable world to interact with by oneself and with friends in the form of mini-games, collections, puzzles, dungeons and kills! We're not sure if we can fit all these things in since this is so long down the line, but we're hoping to put in content that provides hours of fun gameplay.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the game is pretty weak. We get a lot of game-breaking bugs, glitches and errors. We hope to eventually make a more seamless and bug-free game with your help.
We have tribes, character creation, maps to explore, treasures to hunt for, and of course the community itself is one of the best features of the game. You can find more in the "About This" section on our store page.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Nope! I want the game to remain free for anyone to play! Premium's price may go up as we add more features, but for now I really enjoy it as is and I think the game being free to try will help people look past a few of the issues just a bit more- not that it's any excuse for any issues, but I think it's easier for people to return after a few years and give the game a try when they don't have to pay for it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is and always will be a part of the development process! We won't be changing that once a more finished version of the game comes along. We hope our users always take our questions as seriously as we take theirs.”

1.9.7 - Fixes and Changes

Additions
Brand new character selection screen! Old one was bothering me too much
Essence tree and the new Essence system were introduced in the last patch on accident. But here's how it works!

Essence pools are small contained bodies of water found all over Primordial, once unlocked (by stepping on it) you can travel to anywhere else an Essence Pool exists. The Essence tree is now the main spawn, and Tombet's pool is automatically unlocked for you, so you can teleport between them right away.

Symbols for these essence pools were added to the minimap

Fixes
  • Loudness of essence teleportation is gone, it should sound relatively normal now
  • You cannot run away once you've opened the essence pool interface
  • You no longer will spawn in game at half health
  • Canis no longer has beard issue
  • Canis should no longer have horn issues either
  • Felis also have the proper horns selected
  • Camera on presets menu was too zoomed in, it should be normal now
  • Editing felis should let you see the proper scar color now
  • No more having both sabres or underteeth, only what you selected will show now
  • Ears you picked for felis will STAY when you edit.
  • Suricates and their pups can now be bald
  • Canis editor no longer brings up Quit menu immediately when opening
  • Raptor feet fluffs are a proper fluff toggle now
  • Felis gender will now save
  • Serious optimizations for framerate in character selection
  • Minimap dot largeness should be tame now
  • SERIOUS minimap optimizations at the cost of minimap blurriness, it's a decent trade off, minimap is super fast now.
  • You can properly register in game.
  • Suricate crouch and walk should be normal again
  • Suricate swimming is no longer jerky
  • Minimap icons had colliders on them for some reason, now they don't.
  • Old staff roles have been removed from in game. There is no longer a Moderator, Global Moderator, Designer, DIT, MIT role. Admin has been changed to Developer.
  • Spelling error fix in Raptor Editor

Known Bugs

Teleporting from hub tree to Tombet can be iffy because Tombet will not always load in. Resetting spawn and re-teleporting should help however.

Unsure about crashing trying to enter the game. For some people this has automatically been fixed with updates, for others it has not. It doesn't seem to be related to the previous issue with DX11 anymore, but something else ?

Fix 1/18/19 + More!

Note
I haven't been able to work on CS properly for a few weeks, my motherboard in my computer stopped working properly, I had to wait a week for the new one to ship, and after installing it, my computer continued to have the same problems it did previously. I finally reinstalled the OS and now it works like a charm! So if you aren't a part of the Discord where I detailed that super fun and exciting and not at all stressing chapter of my real life that was what was going on.

I made a small update on I believe the 10th, but didn't document anything, so here is a congregation of updates made in that patch and in this one.

Fixes
  • Post Processing toggle was removed so that water could be seen, should not affect computer speed or memory at all.
  • Canis trot was fixed from rubber-banding
  • Preset market animals are now visible
  • Bigger list of presets (canis mainly) should be fully accessible now
  • Added a few new marking packs! (Thanks to Enoki, Raven, and Clovis!)
  • Slow falling glitch should be fixed just a bit more
  • Baby felis no longer shows horns if adult does not have horns
  • Audio import settings tweaked so the game uses a bit less memory on scene transitions
  • Had added a detection system for emails! If you don't have a proper email for your account you can set one in account settings!
  • Fixed issue with registration fields not working
  • Game should no longer crash on opening NOR when going into Primordial on a character
  • Stupid idiot banyan tree is done being pink
  • Added a lore book, hold tight on the code for actually unlocking pages! I got a bit of work to do.

About This Game

Cereal Soup is an MMO-style animal roleplaying game set in the dangerous and strange world of Primordial. Take the role of a completely unique character that grows as you do. Join a tribe, become skilled, make new friends, and change the world; together, for you are never alone.

Welcome to Cereal Soup! This project started all on it's own at the end of 2013, and was released the next year to the public in early Alpha. The game was made to fill a hole in the animal gaming community, and thanks to the amazingly talented people of this community CS has continued to grow and improve. Primordial is a world where creatures reign, Gods control all, and banding together to form powerful tribes is only one way to survive.

Features

  • Play as a mongoose (Suricate), wolf (Canis) and lion (Felis). With more species to come!
  • Customize your character down to it's claws! No two characters will ever be the same!
  • Discover many different types of prey! Kill them or befriend them! The choice is yours!
  • Use your nose to explore the world!
  • Watch the world change in real time, prey appearing and disappearing at night, and the affecting weather changing each day.
  • Meet strange and unique NPC's
  • Participate in events that affect the world!

Reviews

"A great game for animal lovers!" -Krispy

"...That's one of CS's strongest points right now, this game has an overwhelmingly amazing community..."
-Dragonfilms

"Simply put, this game is amazing for being so early in development. It already has a sprouting community (Which I have found to be one of the best parts of the game), functional website, and good graphics for its stage. Perhaps, though, there is room for effects of this game's lore. Players don't particularly see many effects of the lore-based characters in-game, but perhaps this is just coming. If that is the case, then I can't wait to see what the developers will do with it!"
-Lisa570

"Cereal Soup is a very great MMORPG game. You can play, explore and chat with others! It's a creative game, you can create characters, what colored you'd like! <3 Lots and lots of adventures are here" -Kind Vampire Wolfen

"A fun place to make friends and start ideas, I ended up with an over 100-page story from just farting around with gameplay and my unexplainable imagination." - DearBlackenedWolf
