What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to add more content before I call Wasteland Rampage finished, and will produce a better game if I know what the players want.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Wasteland Rampage should be in Early Access for a few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I'm looking at adding a final boss, and more content across the board. New special attacks, items, enemies, and trials. I'm also excited to balance the co-op so it will stay interesting in the long term for all players.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now Wasteland Rampage is missing a solid ending, and the netcode isn't quite perfect. Aside from that, it's perfectly playable and stable. Every feature described in the "About This Game" section is already in the game, working great! Check that out for more information.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change when Wasteland Rampage leaves Early Access. The game is in Early Access for a reason, and I don't want to push people into buying a game they don't like.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'll need to listen to the players to add the type of content that fits the game best, and bring up issues I couldn't notice myself.”

Update 0.940 Patch Notes

Patch Notes:
5 new items.
6 new Hallways.
2 and a half new Special Attacks.
1 new Layer with a new tileset.

Gave Magus a completely new Neutral-X where he throws a spinning Magic Blade that lingers in the air.
Berserker and Rampage's Air-Down-Z is now a mult-hit.

New Mechanic: Special Combos.
Using different Special attacks in sequence will cost much less Stamina than using the same one repeatedly. Now you care much more about all your slots instead of your one favorite Special!

Spaced out the Giant Axe Goo’s axes so they’re more easily readable and it’s easier to stand where you don’t need to guard.
Made the Giant Amalgam’s homing orbs faster so there won’t be as many on the screen at once.
(This should make the end-game more fair and less about stunlocking or killing before they can attack)

Reworked Shining Spiral: Now throws two Magic Blades outward. The Speed is the same, the damage and stun are usually higher than before. Can now be used in the air! (Sp cost 30->35)
Buffed Hyper Slash Combination: (Startup 11->8) (Earliest Cancel 45->38) (Latest Cancel 56->53)
Buffed Phantasm and Hyper Phantasm: Hitbox expanded upwards (Should defend better against axes/orbs)

Increased the speed of some strong moves, slightly lowered speed of down+Z and neutral+Z

Lowered the damage of most Special Attacks across the board. (Making room for the Special Combos and a new item that buffs Special damage)

Redid the chance to spawn Stamina orbs and earn Style points to be more consistent and less arbitrary. Now they just go by the base damage of the attack, for each enemy hit. And it’s doubled if the enemy is launched. (Before, enemies hit after the first one would give less Style)

Redid the Final Rank curve. Early ranks will be harder, later ranks will be MUCH easier and better spaced out. (Those achievements might be possible now, oops)
Put the slash effect and Soul particles behind living enemies, so enemies are more visible in end-game.

Fixed a bug that was messing with where enemies spawned, they’ll be less stacked to one side.
Fixed the camera shake bug that would leave the camera tilted, and increased shake at lower frame rates.
Fixed a Hallway that was missing a couple wall tiles and you could just fall out. (big oof)
Changed the wording on many descriptions and tips to be more clear.

Sorry for the big delay between updates! I'll try to have shorter gaps in the future. I'm thinking I'll probably keep working for at least a few more months before I can call the game done, but it's getting there. For the next update, I'm going to try to totally revamp the backgrounds and tiles to use real 3d perspective and make more sense. Thanks for playing/reading!

Update 0.930 Patch Notes

New Enemy: Marchosias -
(Very fast, lots of health and isn’t stunned for very long. Won’t be 1-hit stunned by normal attacks, only Strongs)

New legendary item: Zweihander -
(Whenever you kill an enemy with a melee attack, you can cancel that attack immediately. Since strong attacks have the most recovery, this works with them well)

Added neat soul particles to better visualize how much you’re earning

I spent a LOT of time optimizing, so there are some nice performance boosts
all around

Two new options that both use that extra CPU power:

Turbo Mode - Game runs at 1.2x speed. Works online, based off the host’s setting.

Queue Frames - Queuing frames helps performance a lot, but adds 1 frame of input lag in high spec, and 3 in low spec. Now you can turn it off to minimize input lag but maybe cause stuttering.

Changed that troublesome Layer 2 Hallway so Knight can jump across like everyone else

Buffed Up-Strong Attack (range slightly increased)

Buffed Neutral-Strong Attack (startup 30->27, range increased, sweetspot size increased)

Buffed Down-Strong Attack (range increased, sweetspot damage 145->160, air/early hitbox starts faster and fits animation better)

Berfed Neutral Attack (earliest cancel 23->24 , active frames 3->4)

Nerfed Down Attack (earliest cancel 12->13)

Buffed Hyper Phantasm (Sp Cost 40->30)

Nerfed Siphoning Rush (Sp Cost 30->35)

Guarding hurtbox expanded downward (Homing orbs won’t slip under you anymore if guarding)

Fixed a bug where killing the enemy who spawned the boss wouldn’t give you souls (I only noticed because of the new soul particles, somehow that’s been broken for months)

Smaller filesize (671MB->393MB)

I’ve been wanting to add more content, so now that I’m done optimizing for a while, I’m going to see about dropping another update on Friday or next Tuesday if I have enough done and tested to be worth it. Let me know what you want the most: new items, hallways, a new layer/tileset, enemies, special attacks, or something else.

Key Features:

  • As you delve deeper into The Source, you'll find new special attacks to augment your moveset. Will your keep your Netherlauncher to quickly juggle foes? Or equip a Hyper Grenade Throw for the pure explosive carnage?
  • You'll also equip unique items all with special effects. Buy the items that supplement your play-style, and combine them for devastating synergies.
