What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While I have a strong idea of how the game is to be played, I am not the only player out there! Early Access is meant to involve the community in the design decisions between now and release. I hope the access will result in a better game than I could have built without the critical feedback.

I am releasing the game in a very rough state so that you can help me craft a better end product. Please keep this in mind and do not buy the game if you are not willing to play something unfinished.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Rogue Frontiers will continue to evolve from early access to full release for approximately 18 months. Of course, things change and it may take longer than anticipated. This is not my first rodeo though and I know what it takes to finish a game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include many new features along with things you expect from any game such as the basics of loading, saving, audio controls, graphic controls, etc.

There are many things planned to do in Rogue Frontiers:
- Live off the land, conquer the elements, and thrive.
- Explore the Rocky Mountains in the 1800s.
- Accurate natural elements and a near-endless map.
- Thousands of locations to explore.
- Abandoned mines, lost caravans, trade-posts, and settlements.
- Craft everything from basic weapons and tools to high quality firearms.
- Trade with Native American Tribes and merchants at trade-posts.
- Track animals and hunt them for their pelts and meat.
- Use knives, bows, firearms, and traps during the hunt.
- Improve your weapons with mods you find or craft.
- Mine for gold and other precious metals.
- Hone dozens of skills in your adventures.
- Build your shelter with a complete construction system.

Key Tenants of the Game
- RF (Rogue Frontiers) is a survival simulator; which means realism is in play whenever possible
- You cannot craft a spaceship out of sticks! Creating even simple tools requires several components and a lot of skill
- Everything you do consumes calories
- Survival is increasingly more difficult, not easier like in many “survival” games
- Death penalties increase as your explore, eventually with parma-death being the only avenue
- You do not heal over time; health can only be regained via treatment or the “perfect storm” of health indicators (fed, quenched, warm, etc.)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Today you can test out the very early edition of the game which allows you to enter the world, harvest resources, fight animals, trade for goods with NPCs, explore a limited map, and craft some basic items.

Many basic things are not included yet. Keep in mind this is very early access and even simple things are not working yet. You will truly be involved at the start and can expect a lot of communication with the developer during the process.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I expect to raise the price of the game as it gets closer to the end of Early Access. The game will be at it's cheapest during Alpha, then more expensive during Beta, and then at it's most expensive upon Release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback from design documents and playable pre-releases will be reviewed for potential inclusion. Feedback will be captured via in-game feedback, forums, and our Discord channel.”

About This Game

Spend what little money you have at the trading post and head out into the wilderness to stake your own claim on the land. Hunt, fish, start a fire, cook a meal, make a shelter, and survive the elements. Mother nature is not the only enemy as Native Americans, claim jumpers, outlaws, and several other hostile elements can make your life tough or end it. Maintain good relationships with tribes and individuals to seek medical help, trade, and gather information. Inflict harm on others and you will find yourself alone, or worse, hunted.

In Rogue Frontiers you explore an open world with nothing but will power and your own thoughts. The game is based on the Rocky Mountains in the 1800s and every detail is as realistic as possible from the price of goods at the time, to the Native American tribes present, to the events that can affect your experience.

Start out with a few basic tools and explore the wilderness. Trap small animals, skin them, and trade with NPCs for money which you can then use to buy more advanced tools. As you progress in the game you will be able to explore further, gain skills, and craft more complex items. Eventually you will be able to create your own home in the mountains and expand further into the wilderness for unique adventures.
