“We expect PolyCube to be in Early Access for 6 to 9 months. This may be shorter or longer based on the game's reception and feedback we get from the community, and how that effects our feature roadmap.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Everything in the Early Access version of PolyCube is the "Basic" mode of gameplay.

We plan to add the following in future releases:
  • Custom Game mode
  • Even better controller support
  • Even better VR support
  • Leaderboards

  • Local Multiplayer (maybe, if demand is high enough)
  • More things based on user feedback

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We believe it is important that you get your money's worth, especially for an Early Access title. The basic mode of the game is stable and playable. If we had no other plans for the game, we could certainly sell this version as-is and it would be a complete title; however we want to make PolyCube even better, and for that we need some additional time - and your feedback!

Improved Tutorial System, Better Controller Support, and More

Version 0.90 of PolyCube is out with a lot of small things, but the biggest improvement is the all new tutorial system, which does a much better job of teaching new players how to play the game!

New & Improved Tutorial
The old tutorial system was scrapped and a better one was built in its place. Now the tutorial does a little more hand holding and actually teaches you how to play the game. Actions are now broken into different sections as well to make learning how to play easier.
  • Completely re-wrote Tutorial system to be less bad
  • Added better controller button images for Xbox, DualShock, Switch, Steam Controller, Rift, Vive, WMR, and Generic controllers
  • Added "How to Play" button to main menu, to re-launch tutorial at any time

Better Controller Support
PolyCube's top-notch controller support is even better!
  • Improved Steam Controller support
  • Improved Windows Mixed Reality controller support
  • Improved generic gamepad support
  • Changed default keyboard binding for Rotate Grid from tab/shift to F/G (Existing players may need to manually change their keyboard settings)

Other Changes
  • Fixed sometimes moving a PolyCube twice on one joystick press (too sensitive)
  • Removed Early Access survey
  • Fixed several misc. bugs
  • Lots of behind the scenes fixes

With the build version climbing its way towards 1.0, we hope to finish the game and leave Early Access soon!

Steam Controller + Windows Mixed Reality Improvements

Version 0.83 of PolyCube is out today, bringing two big improvements:

Improved Steam Controller Support
  • Fixed some actions being mapped to wrong buttons
  • Fixed problem with Peeking and right trackpad
  • Added rumble (vibration) for Steam Controller
  • Added Steam Controller button layout to Main Menu > Options > Controller screen

Improved Windows Mixed Reality Support
Big changes to the WMR controllers! Before, they acted like Vive controllres and only the trackpad was used. Now, both the analog sticks and trackpad are in full use. The analog sticks move your PolyCube while the trackpad will rotate it. Use the triggers to drop a block and grips to rotate the grid.
  • Improved Windows Mixed Reality button mapping
  • Fixed Windows Mixed Reality rumble (vibration)
  • Added Windows Mixed Reality button layout to Main Menu > Options > Controller screen
I'd like to take a minute to thank Microsoft for their very generous Windows Mixed Reality development kit they sent me. I wouldn't have been able to add proper WMR support to PolyCube without it!

Known Issue
While these controllers have been added to the Main Menu, they have not been added to the in-game tutorial yet. I am in the process of completely re-working the tutorial to be less horrible, and as such I didn't want to waste time on something that will be thrown away very soon.
