What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Final Assault is a new type of Action Strategy game that has unique play mechanics and tactics that can only exist in VR. We are taking what we feel is the best of an RTS and mixing some MOBA game mechanics that creates faster paced action and strategy while surrounding you in a dynamic battlefield in a fully immersive VR environment. Creating an RTS is a huge undertaking, let alone creating it in VR. We want as much information and input as we can get from players to assist us in balancing the game and polishing the play mechanics.
With that being said, Final Assault is roughly 85% done. This is not a beta, but true Early Access. We are balancing and polishing, not focus testing. Our goal is to let as many people as possible start enjoying Final Assault, starting with PVP and PVE. We need to be pushing the limits of our servers while observing the players, watching their tactics and strategies so we can properly assess any issues and address them as quickly as possible. This information we gather will also make our AI that much smarter and more competitive in our campaign and PVE modes. But we need you the player in the game giving us as much feedback and input as possible so we can deliver the best VR-RTS we can.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will be in Early Access for less then 2 months. That should give us enough information to balance and polish the entire game. We should also have enough time to improve our AI and other systems so they continue to improve. This time will allow us to polish off the Campaign mode and the other game systems for launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Final Assault is a very deep and robust VR-RTS. Here is a high level overview of the game systems and mechanics that we will be shipping with:
  • Tutorial-Learn not only the controls and basics of the game, but tactics and strategies.
  • Campaign Mode-Axis vs Allies with roughly 4-6 hours of gameplay. Our campaign mode is a map conquest with missions and objectives that can be played by all 6 commanders, allowing for a different experience and re-play opportunities.
  • Divisions-Axis and Allies with 6 different divisions, each having several unique units that offer different play mechanics and strategies.
  • Maps-12 PVP/PVE maps range from small to large sizes.
  • PVP-Full cross-platform (Oculus and Vive with PSVR and other HMD support to come later)
  • Friend Finding and Matchmaking
  • PVP Queue-players will be able to enter a PVP queue at any spot in our game without leaving PVE or Campaign.
  • PVE-Play against the computer on various difficulty settings and play modes.
  • Leaderboards and Achievements
  • Customization-Customize your avatar, gloves, flags, base, units and more.
  • Encyclopedia-This is an interactive way to learn each individual units strengths, weakness, and best strategies.
  • Spectator Mode-invite players to join your game in spectator mode. We also have spectator cameras that can be customized by the players for viewers outside the HMD to watch comfortably.
  • We also have plans
for future DLC
For Early Access, we are focusing on just the PVP and PVE.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“First let us say that this is NOT A BETA, but Early Access. Final Assault is roughly 85% done with focus moving towards Campaign, Customization and other systems for launch. We are not using this a a focus test, but a fine tuning and balancing opportunity. Because of the scope of the game and the RTS genre, we need as many people playing and giving feedback as possible. So what will Early Access give you, the player?
Early Access will give full access to cross-platform(Oculus and Vive) PVP and PVE combat with matchmaking and friend finding tools. All six military divisions will be available as we unlock a total of 12 maps. We will also have available the tutorial and early version of our Unit Encyclopedia that is an interactive way for players to explore each units powers/weakness and learn their best strategies. Campaign Mode: We will be unlocking one full Division Campaign, roughly 2 hours of game play. As we get closer to launch, we will also give limited access more of the Campaign mode, Customization, and other launch systems. Players will also receive updates and information on the game as well as access to the Development team through forums, wikis, Reddit, and Discord for feedback and input on game mechanics, balancing and other topics that will help deliver the best game we can.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Since the full launch will include features that are unavailable during early access the price will be slightly increased when the game goes to full launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community is a crucial part of our game and a top priority. Your feedback and input will help us refine and polish Final Assault. Players will have access to our developer forums, wikis, twitch, Reddit and Discord channel. We will have dedicated developers available to answer questions, concerns, take feedback while supplying information as quickly as possible. We will also be asking you, the player, questions that could affect the balance and overall gameplay.
The most important thing for us is that players are enjoying the game. We want to keep an open dialog with Early Access users to assess what features you are most interested in, where we can have the biggest impact in development, and what you want and expect from future development. From the AI, UI, and balance of the game itself, your opinion will help shape our game.

We got it fixed. The team at STEAM are AWESOME! They adjusted the discount for us so its back to the Early Access 33%. This was a simple mistake on our side, but not an easy fix for Steam. They went above and beyond to get it fixed and we are forever grateful. Sorry for any inconvenience to you the fan and thank you for understanding. Oh, and by the way, your base is on fire! GET BACK TO THE BATTLE!
