What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“City Patrol: Police is set to be a cross-over. First and foremost the game is to be seen as a Simulation Game following the police work of the eponymous City Patrol- led by the dauntless cops Patrick and Tom - with a huge emphasis on racing gameplay. Also we, Toplitz Productions and Caipirinha Games, want to provide a dense story narrated via comic strips and voice overs.

As we found this to be an interesting mash up we do feel a little bit unsecure about the general reception within the community. This is where Early Access comes in: Even though the game is settled for a rather short Early Access phase it will be awesome to have all the communities’ feedback and see where there is some criticism, giving us the chance to slightly switch directions if needed. Releasing it in Early Access is giving us the chance to see if the concept will be well received: A diverting, action-packed simulation-racing-cross-over with narrative features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“For City Patrol: Police we plan to switch to full release end of August 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game is in a very good shape at the launch of the Early Access phase including (nearly) final vehicle handling and early story progression. We’re planning to add the following throughout the Early Access phase:

  • Additional campaign missions
  • More race tracks to be unlocked throughout the story
  • Additional cars to unlock for the race tracks
  • Hand painted comic cut scenes for all campaign missions
  • Voice Overs for the comic cut scenes in English and German
  • Bug fixing and polishing

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game offers a variety of action-packed driving missions revolving around the story of Patrick and Tom and their City Patrol Police Squad. The game is already very stable and offers realistic and satisfying driving physics.

A range of cars can be driven around the huge detailed map with a city, an open-cast mining, highways, the port and a lot more landmarks. More and more missions are being added to the campaign story line and are waiting for you.

When progressing throughout the main story line you can unlock a variety of vehicles to use on separate racing courses – more to be unlocked throughout the story as well. The race tracks come with a lot of settings to tweak the AI races and challenge yourself.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are planning to lower the price in the Early Access phase then after full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community always is, and should be, a corner stone of game development. We would like to hear critical feedback about overall features, balancing and look and feel of this game. As we feel the game is not very comparable concept-wise to other games every kind of feedback from the community is well appreciated.

We’re in believe the community will help us drive the game in the right direction: A diverting, action-packed simulation-racing-cross-over with narrative features.

Our designers and community managers will always be present in the Steam forums to track down your feedback, bug reports and ideas.”
