What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This is my first published game as a single developer, so when releasing it without any prior experience something might not work as expected. I believe Early Access can help me get familiar with everything and sort out all unexpected difficulties.
The game will also get polished and improved visually in the time, while listening to feedback. It will be a learning process :)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until all important features that make the game feel finished are implemented. This will hopefully take no longer than 3 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The core game idea will stay the same. The differences between now and at release date will be mostly improved visuals and more content. There will be 40+ levels with increasing difficulty, sounds and music will be added, and instructions that explain the rules.
Also, achievements will be added.

Other planned features to be added later include: a level editor, to create and share your own puzzles; and 'Challenges', which are additional puzzles with special rules and a higher difficulty, and finishing them will unlock new features. These features may be added during or after Early Access.

There will still be updates coming after release, but all possible major issues have to be sorted out now (if there are any).”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The main game idea of Chess Sudoku, as described in 'About This Game', is already implemented. The game is playable and should have no major bugs. There will be ~12 levels at the start of Early Access to get people familiar with the concept. More levels will be added during the Early Access state. There are no sounds yet, they will be added soon.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Probably. If everything goes according to plan and all planned features are implemented, there will likely be a (small) one-time price increase shortly before release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All reviews, criticism and suggestions will be carefully read and considered. Early Access players will get to shape the final game with good suggestions, if possible.”

About This Game

Chess Sudoku is a simple and calm, but somewhat challenging puzzle game.

As you will expect from the name, it is based on the well-known games Chess and Sudoku. The main goal is to solve a Sudoku, but the only way to fill in the numbers is by moving a chess piece to the correct field. Every chess piece has a number and a color attached to it, and if it is moved to a spot with the correct matching number, the field gets filled with that number. By also matching the correct colors you get a bonus.

There are 4 of the known chess pieces: King, Knight, Bishop, Rook (Tower). The King and Knight move just as in chess. The Bishop and Tower, however, can sometimes only move 2 fields at a time, jumping over the one field in between. The Chess pieces are positioned on additional grids, outside of the main Sudoku grid. One extra challenge is to finish the Sudoku with as few moves as possible.

The puzzles start very simple, but finding the optimal solution can get quite challenging!

The game can currently be controlled by only using a mouse.
