What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re aiming to make Panzer Strategy development transparent to our community. We’ve made a lot of fixes and tweaks based on our players comments. Early Access gives us the opportunity to get feedback directly from you – and will help in development and tuning of new content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Panzer Strategy full release is planned for September, 1.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • Three full scenarios are available in the Early Access version of Panzer Strategy – "The Siege of Madrid", "Fall Weiss" and "Operation Weserübung". The release version will feature 18 scenarios including: "The Siege of Tobruk", "The Battle of Britain", "Fall Blau" and "Operation Citadel".
  • The release version will introduce naval operations.
  • The full variety of HQ abilities will be available upon release – the Early Access version features some of them;
  • Some interface elements are replaced by placeholders during the Early Access – the release version will come with finished UI;
  • Some units, units’ voices and units’ animations are missing in the Early Access version of the game – we’ll update them with new units during Early Access.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is stable and 100% playable – now we’re focusing on finishing the scenarios, fixing the bugs, polishing the UI and the visual side of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price when we ship all the content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Ongoing communication with the community is crucial for independent teams. Our players have already helped us with various fixes – from changing a caliber of KV-2 howitzer to balancing the gameplay. We’ll also keep on posting developers’ diaries and updates.
Feel free to give us any feedback here on Steam, or on panzerstrategy.com and our Facebook and Twitter pages. We are always ready to discuss the gameplay, new features and the overall experience – in order to be able to ship you the best game possible.”

July 10 in World War II - the Battle of Britain begins

On July 10 1940, the Battle of Britain begins with Luftwaffe raids on channel shipping. The Battle of Britain takes its name from a speech by Winston Churchill to the House of Commons: "What General Weygand has called The Battle of France is over. The Battle of Britain is about to begin."

The Germans had rapidly overwhelmed France and the Low Countries, leaving Britain to face the threat of invasion by sea. The German high command knew the difficulties of a seaborne attack and its impracticality while the Royal Navy controlled the English Channel and the North Sea.

The primary objective of the German forces was to compel Britain to agree to a negotiated peace settlement. In July 1940 the air and sea blockade began, with the Luftwaffe mainly targeting coastal-shipping convoys, ports and shipping centers.

As the battle progressed, the Luftwaffe also targeted factories involved in aircraft production and strategic infrastructure. Eventually, the Germans began terror bombing on areas of political significance and on civilians.
The Battle of Britain was the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces.

In 1940 The Royal Air Force defended the UK against large-scale attacks by Luftwaffe. The German failure to destroy Britain's air defenses was the first major defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII.

In Panzer Strategy we try to simulate the tide of this campaign. For the “Battle of Britain” scenario we’ve made lots of unique 3D models of WWII planes. The air battles are a very important part of Panzer Strategy mechanics, because often aircraft is the key to victory.

July 6 in World War II - the Germans reached Voronezh

On July 6 1942, General Hermann Hoth's forces swap aside the Soviet defence and reached the outskirts of Voronezh.

First Battle of Voronezh fought in and around the strategically important city of Voronezh on the Don river, 450 km south of Moscow. It continued from June 24 to July 28 1942, as opening move of the German summer offensive in 1942.

The German attack had two objectives. One was to seed confusion about the ultimate goals of the overall campaign.

The other purpose was to provide an easily defended front line along the river, providing a strong left flank that could be protected with relatively light forces.

Since July 7 Hoth continued to push forward. But then Soviet forces mounted a successful counterattack that tied up Hoth's forces.

The 3rd Motorized Division broke across the Don, but turned back. The Soviet command poured reserves into the city and a situation not unlike what would be seen at Stalingrad a few months later broke out, with the German troops clearing the city street by street with flamethrowers while tanks gave fire support.

The 2nd Motorized Division continued the battle until July 24, when the final Soviet forces to the west of the Don were defeated and the fighting ended.

Adolf Hitler later came to believe that these two days, when combined with other avoidable delays on the drive South, allowed Marshal Timoshenko to reinforce the forces in Stalingrad before the 4th Panzer Army could arrive to allow the taking of Stalingrad.
