What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've been working on LVL99 fueled mostly by our spirits and our pocket budget, to make sure our game is created according to our own vision. That means developing outside deadlines, taking time when needed to make a better, more stable experience. It also means creative independence, so we can make a violent game without the focus-group feel or political correctness of this age. Unfortunately, this means either taking more years to finish, or running out of personal funds.
With early access, we want to get in touch with a community that can enjoy our work, and help us deliver the game experience we want to share.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“So far we've taken years before reaching the point of having a beefy playable demo, but if everything goes allright, we could be finishing the full game within a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main engine and rules of the game are already done, so the updates we plan up until finishing the game, would consist on more maps, enemies, bosses and music. Basically, expand the game from 1 single map with 3 zones, to several maps with several zones, including unique new characters and animations for each new map.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It contains a full playable map with 3 distinct stages, 2 bosses, 1 hidden boss, and more than a dozen unique enemies. You can play and complete the game without any issues.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We formerly stated that yes, but after having issues with our steam pricing and user feedback, we're heavily re-considering the price. Once our current pricing issue is fixed, we'll make a more informed decision. For transparency, here's the original text:
[]”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We were one of the latest games to use Steam greenlight, and we received a lot of feedback from Steam users, which we highly value. We haven't gotten such a big response from other sites, so we look forward to hear from players and discuss what things can we include in the game that can make them more satisfied.”

About This Game

This game is no longer under active development. It will be removed from sale shortly and no longer supported by the developer or publisher

What if every apocalypse scenario happened at the same time?

Welcome to LVL99: AxeRage, a gratuitously violent 2D Action-Platformer inspired by the iconic pop culture of the 80's and 90's. Based in a fictional Chile, this righteously brutal ode-to-Arcades is heavily saturated with references to many of the nostalgic low-budget B movies, old school anime, and classic SNES-era platformers that we know and love.

Enter the fray as Cheins Tsurya, an axe-wielding renegade firefighter who must face an unholy apocalyptic menagerie warring over Earth’s vital energy. With brute force, a little supernatural intervention by some indigenous Chilean deities, and a RADioactive dog, players must free Earth from unrelenting hordes of aliens, robots, and zombies, oh my. AxeRage will also offer 2P Mode for the players who appreciate the camaraderie of couch co-op, introducing the gun-toting Tyrius Domain inspired by Terminator’s Kyle Reese.

Gameplay is a close combat gorefest full of combos, plenty of hack and slash, and more platforming than you can shake an axe at. Take out waves of baddies with a diverse array of moves like Axe Uppercuts, Dive Kicks, Slides, and some pretty gnarly Special Moves that rock a blast-to-the-past feel with some modernized digital physics.

FEATURES

  • Vivid 16-bit aesthetic reminiscent of 90's 2D games, but with modern quality.
  • Large array of attack moves and combos. Chain combos to fill your RAGE meter and unleash devastating Special Attacks.
  • A huge variety of enemies that keeps gameplay engaging and challenging. Get ready for some brutal boss fights!
  • Exploration-based stages with Save rooms, unlockable paths, upgrades, items, and secrets.
  • Fierce soundtrack inspired by Retrowave music.
  • Gameplay heavily inspired by the hot-blooded classic action platformers.
  • And don’t forget to keep yours eyes peeled for some nostalgic 80's and 90's pop-culture references. Nods to Tremors, Terminator, Things, Street Fighter, Dragon Ball Z, and so much more.

Are you ready to kick some Axe?
