What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our game will slowly develop over the years, and we know that our budget can suffer lots of constraints and rough periods of time. We can provide quality content over the development process and give a large discount for players willing to fund our project. Though it is not dependent on Early Access sales for us to reach our goals with our game, it surely helps reaching it faster.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The more our game sells, the earlier we can deliver its finished version. Our earliest prospects for a full release (early 2020's crisis over the Chinese Coronavirus Flu included) indicate that by late 2024, early 2025 our game will be finished. There will be an utmost commitment of our development team to not push this date any further.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game's Early Access will be more limited in scope, featuring more localized battles in smaller groups. We will divide the game in two phases during Early Access: Alpha and Beta. As per Alpha/Beta standarization for software, Alpha will be more focused in increasing the amount of content, mechanisms and coding inside the main game, while Beta will be focused in stabilizing, fixing and improving game code for smoother gameplay.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Our current state is in Phase 1; we have 1v1 skirmish battles ready, two playable tribes, with one tribe ready to be released soon and another a month later, for a total of four in the second month after release of Early Access. New content will constantly be added for additional playability, until we can reach a critical mass to release our de-facto game mode, World Campaign, a huge MMO strategy/RPG region domination game based on 5th century Europe.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Our game will cost a fraction of its intended price during Early Access. Once we develop our game and advance in phases of development, there is going to have price updates to reflect the quality and extension of our content. There will be very little, if any, discounts during Early Access for our game.

Players who purchase our game during Early Access receive better deals in the form of very large, exclusive discounts for in-game microtransactions of skins.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan on making a weekly developer briefing on how developing is faring and keep the playerbase knowing what are our priorities, what we are working on and any future additions/corrections to the game will be.

When possible, we want the community to vote and give their say on what tribes, types of units or territories they'd like introduced next, giving some control of how we expand our planned content.

Our team is available through contacting at any time outside Steam through our email (genosstudios@gmail.com), forums and website. For practical purposes, however, we will prioritize contacts and informations through the Steam application.”

About This Game

Rise of the Foederati was formerly an online, massive multiplayer, now single-player focused strategy game that combines real-time strategy with turn-based combat. You play as a leader of one of the many tribes surrounding the Roman borders in mid-5th century AD, and your objective is to lead your warriors into raids, skirmishes and battles to survive. More important than winning battles, however, is to wade through the intricacies of managing your warband, as your soldiers will support your leadership as long as you bring them loot and glory. A weak leader, however, may face discontent warriors that will desert, abandon formations, disrespect your commands, or even challenge you to take control of your group!

Spine-chilling, realistic immersion

What you hear is what it is. A knife stab. A shield blocking an incoming sword. The jingling sound of coins inside a bag. Nearly every sound you hear in Rise was recorded in studios to be as realistic as possible. The eerie feeling before a battle now feels more tense than ever, with dynamic music that shifts with a battle's progress.

Deep, intricate, and tactical gameplay

Witness your soldiers improve as they wage wars with you.

Historical accuracy
The Dark Ages (or, more accurately, Migration Period) as you have never seen before. Rise of the Foederati has historical accuracy down to the most minimal detail. From the pronounciation of one of the dozen extinct languages of the period to the design of warriors' armaments, the experience you have is as historically accurate as it gets.

Politics paved with power and casualties
An ever-changing political scene awaits you. Within each swing of the pendulum of power, you'll be forced to make decisions that may have long-term repercussions. For example, if a huge force from a previously neutral tribe attacks your own, it may require your warband to ally itself with old enemies against this new threat.

Rally your friends, raid your enemies, protect your tribe*
Hundreds of players are present at the same time in Rise. Your movements and battles are present in real-time; there are no instances in the world. Your actions make a mark in the world. The more people you bring to your side, the bigger your actions are.
