Why Early Access?

“Eye of Odin is in Early Access because we want to develop it from here with feedback from the community. It is already a solid game that is fun to play. We are planning to grow the game significantly in the next year, and want our players to have a say in how that happens.

We have a lot of ideas for what to do with the game from here, and would love your help in finding the right balance between new levels, missions, spells and enemies as well as the tweaking of each of those.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to launch the full game in the first half of 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have more features and more content. The game will be in continuous development until full release, and the full version will be a result of our plans combined with your input. Here are some of the things we are planning:

Spells

We have more spells in development as we speak, and we will release them throughout Early Access. We love working with the motion controllers and coming up with new and interesting ways of dispatching Hel’s forces.

Enemy Types

There will be several enemy types above and beyond the current Draugir. Fast four legged creatures, flying enemies, ferocious giants and more. These behave differently and create unique gameplay challenges.

New Story Arcs

There is more to the world than Lyngvi, Fenrir’s prison island. For the full release we plan to build two entirely new story arcs with their own environments, graphical style and enemy types. These story arcs will explore different fragments of Ragnarok. Expect to meet giants and demons and other legendary creatures.

Narrated Story

We plan to add voice narration to the story elements in the game.

Game Modes

We have a few different game modes planned. These will show up during the Early Access phase.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is pretty solid and playable right now, even though it is not terribly big. We have two levels with three game modes and a handful of missions each.

Game modes

  • Survival - Survive the onslaught of enemies while protecting the chains that bind the great wolf Fenrir. If the chains break, it's game over.
  • Fragile Defence Points - Like above, but the defence points get destroyed on the first enemy hit.
  • Weapon Lock - Similar to survival, but you get the extra challenge of playing with spells that are already chosen for you.

Levels

  • Field - An open valley outside the wolf Fenrir's cave. Enemies come over the nearby hills and from the sea at the lower end of the valley. Can you manage to stop the enemies before they free the great wolf?
  • Pit - An abandoned dwarven mine. The wolf is near. You have to move around to keep the enemies at bay.

Spells

  • Gambanteinn the wand - This wand fires magic crystals that home in on your enemies
  • Jotuntann the tooth - Freeze your enemies with the power from an Ice-Giant's tooth
  • Æsirbrenna the torch - This fireball wreaks havoc when thrown at your enemies
  • Mistilteinn the twig - Snare your enemies up and throw them around

Enemies

The Draugir are undead vikings from the realm of Hel - the goddess of death. They march relentlessly towards Fenrir's freedom and Odin's doom. You have to stop them. Be thankful these are your only opponents - for now...

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We will increase the price incrementally through Early Access to match our big content updates (planned roughly every 3 months). We want to always offer good value for the content you get at the time you buy the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are making this game for the community and we want to hear your feedback as we go along. We will release early versions of new spells, enemy types, mission types, levels and more for the community to have a say in how they should ultimately work or look.

We have a testbed environment in the game where we will be showcasing work in progress for feedback.”

About This Game

Ragnarok. The End of Days. Something has gone wrong with the cosmic cycle, leaving in its wake a world that refuses to be reborn. It is up to you to step back in time, filling the role of Odin as you relive the apocalypse of the gods, and try to repair all of reality.

Built from the ground up for the HTC Vive, Eye of Odin is a tower defense-inspired VR game focused on fast-paced first-person action set in the backdrop of an apocalypse gone horribly wrong. Features an immersive story based on Norse mythology and a branching mission campaign, unlocking new challenges, levels, weapons and more as the story unfolds. You may also compete in the Endless mode challenge, facing off against a never-ending tide of enemies for high score bragging rights.
