What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access makes it possible for you to experience the parts of Percussive VR that have already been built without needing to wait for the ones that haven't. It also provides us with a way to get feedback from the community and allow us to develop the features you want, and prioritize development based on your input.

"Release early, release often." What's not to love about that? 😀”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Early Access could go on for several months as we experiment and make new additions / improvements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Only a portion of the final game's instruments and features have currently been built. While we don't yet know everything that the full version will hold, we do have a general list of planned additions (subject to change):

  • More instruments (vibraphone, xylophone, timpani...)
  • Improved physics/audio performance
  • Load your sheet music
  • Recording
  • Note and instrument information
  • And more!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this point the game contains three fully playable instruments (marimba, orchestral bells, and steelpan), with two of those instruments allowing for different types of mallets to be used.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game's price in Early Access is lower than the planned final price; consider it a bonus for becoming an early adopter!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll be relying heavily on feedback and suggestions from the community to help direct our development efforts throughout Early Access and beyond. If you're holding out for a specific feature before buying, or if you own the game and have ideas for changes you'd like to see, please post in the community discussion forum within Steam!”

Percussive VR Update for 2018-12-10

Ho ho ho! This update has been a long time in the making, so let's cut to the chase and talk about all the cool new features!

🎼 Sheet Music

At long last, you can now import and read your sheet music in Percussive VR! In this beta version of the feature, only PNG images are supported, and only two pages can be loaded (until a good control scheme for turning pages can be decided).

To try it out, add your PNG images to a folder called "Sheet Music" in your "Documents" folder and name them so they end with 01 and 02.

☰ Menu Upgrades

As you may have noticed already, the menu has been moved from a wall-mounted position to an easier-to-use wrist-mounted location. This makes the text easier to see and prevents situations where the menu would have been hard to access.

As a bonus, it's also been equipped with satisfying new sound effects!

⏲ Visual Metronome

The metronome added in the last update has been extended with a new visual indicator that appears above the active instrument whenever the metronome is turned on! Just as before, the metronome is still limited to 140 BPM in 4/4 time. This will be adjustable via the menu in a future update.

🏷️ Oculus Touch Tooltips Improved

Some enhancements have been made to the controller tooltips introduced in the last update for Oculus Touch users, making them appear more when you want them and less when you don't. Mallet grip positions for Oculus Touch users have also been improved.

As always, keep the questions and requests coming! Your feedback will help shape the development of Percussive VR.

Happy jamming!
