Why Early Access?

“This is the first game that I have created and as I continue to build out the world of Elderine, with additional features, I look to receive feedback on the games progress. This feedback will help shape what is added and how the story will eventually play out for the player.

I love games, and frew up with classic role-playing games. I wanted to try to create something myself, but know that to create a good game, I need to know what players would like to play, and not just what I would like to play. I am hoping potential players can identify bugs, or parts that aren't fun, but also, which is incredibly important, offer feedback on what they think is fun, or not fun in Elderine.

With this guidance, I can update Elderine, and hopefully finish Early Access with a game many will enjoy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The plan is to have Elderine in Early Access for 3 to 6 months to offer sufficient time to build out and enchance features and also to identify bugs and elements that aren't fun.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The early access addition of the game will be a continual work in progress to build out the world of Elderine, the story and characters and also add features with the advantage of having player feedback at an early stage. As the game progresses in Early Access more areas will be added so that the full story can be played out. During this time the crafting features will also be enhanced.

Elderine is first and foremost a story driven adventure game, with role-playing elements. The main focus is on the story of Jason, and his adventure in a strange magical land. The additional features are there to add extra activities, distractions from the main quest and really some more fun.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this stage all the features descibed in the game description are implemented, and the main quest is about 90% complete. Although all features are included I plan to further enhgance these, develop them further so there is more interaction, more activities to do, and more of the story to learn.

I aim to release an update every so weeks or so (perhaps more often) which will focus on developing one of the features further, adding additional quests and storylines, but also fixing any bugs that are identified.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the game will be priced lower during Early Access, relative to its final full-version price. Once the game leaves Early Access I plan to continue to add additional content in the way of additional quests, areas etc, as such there may be a one-time price increase as the game leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I have set up a dedicated website for Elderine, which also hosts forums. These forums will be used to provide game updates, plans for new content and answer questions from players and interested parties.
I have also set up a twitter account to help grow interest in the game but also asct a quick means of answering shorter questions about Elderine.
Comments and feedback will all be welcome, I am hoping that those who play the game will continue to support and enjoy what is created by providing suggestions and feedback on steam and on the Black Alchemy Games website.”

Elderine Update 21 - A lot of bug fixes

Hi all,

Quite a few bugs have been squished, thanks to tleusin

  • NPC no longer blocks Airship in Haspar
  • Airships... should now be functional
  • Progression bugs after bugs in all temples.
  • Progression issue when revisiting The Elderine Forest.
  • Fort Avton and the undying boss.
  • The human remain in Fort Avton Cell are now correctly interactable.
  • Selling price of some items
  • Can now sell axe/pickaxe... if you really want to...
  • Farm issues - one plot was not working correctly
  • Farm issues - green herb wasn't growing

  • Weapon kits can now be crafted - if you have "Recipe Book: Weapons"
  • More deep mushrooms added in different, foresty locations.
  • Coal can now be found when mining copper.
  • Added new exit to Fort Avton after defeating boss
  • The Royal Order knights to Fort Afton - once undying boss defeated.
  • A few more collectible items (boss drops)
  • Hints about a new area which will be added once main storyline of game is complete and bug free.

  • Autosave slots - these were causing lag issues. You can still manually save at any time.
  • Reduced size of Haspar City and Northern Plains. Removed unnecessary areas to reduce map size.

Elderine Update 20 - Full Controller Support + Bug Fixes

It's never good to get stuck when you're trying to take part in an epic adventure! Especially if it's an art class!

Today's update fixes a few bugs, introduces newly updated plugins for the battle system, input configuration (you can change key bindings from the options) and full gamepad support.

Change Log

Due to plugin changes and follower removal, a New Game is strongly recommended!

About This Game

About Elderine:

Magic, riddles, new friendships and a quest to discover himself amid a world grasped by a dark, ancient evil. An ordinary boy, who finds himself in the least ordinary of circumstances. Jason always wanted to live in a fantasy world, to escape from homework, school, his boring life and most of all his overbearing aunt. Luck was in course for this young boy, as he soon finds himself magically warped to the land of Hasparia.

A land where magic, monsters, mysterious creatures and heroes really do exist. With a fledgling wizard a strange imp and others as companions, Jason sets off on his own journey of discovery, in this strange world that he now must call home. It's not all adventure, though, as Jason is the prophesied hero who will destroy the dark evil engulfing the lands.

At every turn, they are constantly evading the scope of a mysterious force. Who, as it seems will stop at nothing until their quest has failed! Dreams really can become Destiny.
