What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’ve worked tirelessly to get Yore VR to this point, but we know that it's time to get it in the hands of the community so that they can help shape the game moving forward. We've spent many moons dreaming up ways to bring everything that we love about open world games to VR. However, as great as we'd like to think our ideas are, the last thing we want to do is move ahead developing new systems that nobody wants.

Because of this, it’s important we don't operate in a bubble. We're ready to open up conversations with players who will impact the direction of Yore VR with their feedback and ideas. There are also some fixes and bugs that will no doubt slip through the cracks, which players can help us find and solve.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The plan is to stay in Early Access for 12-16 months to augment the current build with more content to explore, crafting systems, dungeons and eventually multiplayer and PvP. Our roadmap has the final version hitting the shelves sometime near the end 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Yore VR will continue to be updated, expanded upon and supported throughout Early Access, but our goal is to cement crafting and resource gathering systems for initial launch as well as our ranged weapons.

Full version will include:
  • Hunting and fishing systems
  • Dozens more medieval weapons, both ranged and melee
  • Much more in depth crafting - small objects all the way up to base building
  • Much more in depth resource gathering
  • Expanded open world
  • Dungeons to explore
  • Combat with monsters and enemies
  • PVP and Multiplayer
  • New tavern mini-games
  • Herbs and alchemy
  • Gardening and farming

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The village in Yore VR offers players the opportunity to explore an archery range, tavern, forge, smelter, and other buildings surrounded by a forest. The foundation of the projectile weapon system is in place as well as movement, harvesting and preliminary crafting. There are also a few fun activities and games available.

The 3 movement systems:

Teleportation: Short range teleportation will get you from point A to B in a flash although it is limited to 10 meters and cannot be used while pulling a cart. This is a better option for anyone who experiences VR sickness.

Point and Click Walking: Teleportation will work for short distances but longer hauls will result in RPG like movement. Just aim off in the distance and our pathfinding system will navigate your way to the destination so that you can take in the surroundings, or take aim at a target! The longer you move the more our “VR Sick-no-more” system kicks in, reducing FOV to negate/reduce motion sickness as much as possible! This system can be limited or disabled in the options menu but most people hardly notice it visually.

Real Time D-Pad Movement: Flick a switch and one of the touch pads becomes a d-pad. Press up and you move forward, left and you strafe left. Recommended for VR veterans as it can be disorienting for new users, however combined with our “VR Sick-No-More” system we aim to reduce motion sickness as much as possible. This system is great for frantic combat as well as a more immersive sense of movement.

Crafting systems include:

Smelting: Refining ore is an art in itself. Our system combines a bloomery with techniques from a blast furnace to create a 2 step process from hammering the ore, working the bellows, to pouring ingots. Just don't forget to keep that fire going!

Blacksmithing: Very few things in life are more satisfying than beating red hot iron into your very own blade. We aim to recreate that as closely as possible and create the very first VR blacksmithing experience. In the beginning our blacksmithing system will be a little rough around the edges but will be refined and evolve with the help of our community

Weapons

Crossbows We have 4 Medieval Crossbows and quivers, most of which have their own unique reloading mechanism and strength. Our quiver system allows you to hang a quiver on your waist and position it to where it is most comfortable

Bow and Arrow We currently have a home-made bow and quiver to shoot targets with or whatever else finds itself unlucky enough to be in your sights

Fun and Activities

Lumberjacking and Mining: With your trusty hatchet in hand any tree in the forest can be cut down and harvested for wood, just remember your hand cart if you plan on hauling it all back home. Likewise you will find ore laden rocks distributed throughout the map and long as you have your pick-axe with you, the bounty is yours.

Horseshoe tossPlay by yourself or challenge your friends to a good old fashioned game of horse shoe toss. Currently you will have to take turns in the single player mode but there is 2 team scoring setup for those who can swap the headset after each round

Archery Games: Our shooting range offers a variety of stationary targets to rack up a high score with. Each round has a limited number of bolts or arrows so take aim carefully.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There is a chance that once all of the additional content is added and the systems are in place, we'll raise the price accordingly, but not by too much.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our goal, first and foremost is to let the community drive our development process to . While it might not be possible to incorporate every piece of feedback we receive, we are excited to participate in larger conversations about open world VR games and what our players want.

We look forward to hearing about any bugs and fixes, but also about people want to see most in Yore VR. Through our forum, community discussions and development updates, we're going to see the project through to completion with the players by our side every step of the way. We value the voice of the community and will continue the conversation well past Early Access.”
