About The World

In the land of Seiðr (Say-dor), elemental magic is central to the advancement of human civilization, and the ones who can manipulate these elements are highly revered. These individuals are known as “Elementalists”, magicians who have spent their lives learning to manipulate and combine the different elements to create everything we know as “civilization”. Elementalists draw this power from magical creatures known as “Pneumen”, so maintaining the environments these creatures need to survive is intricately linked with humanity’s survival.

Each element draws power from a different Pneumen, and Elementalists generally have an affinity for one over others. Recently,  the Fire Pneumen, a species of immortal flaming birds known as “Phoenixes,” have stopped reincarnating, causing the power of flame to dwindle. These Pneumen are essentially immortal, but when reincarnation occurs, they regress into an egg, become vulnerable, and must be exposed to extreme heat to hatch. With a tendency to live close to volcanoes, this isn’t usually an issue, but something odd has happened, causing them to migrate. As fewer and fewer Phoenixes reincarnate, their eggs have become exceedingly rare, and many Elementalists spend years seeking them out in order to bring them to the summit of the nearest volcano and aid in the hatching process, with few succeeding.

Enter Cinder, a master Elementalist with an affinity for Fire who found a Phoenix egg after years of searching, and has now begun making his pilgrimage to Mount Vaepto, a massive volcano. Now that the safe part of finding the egg is done, the dangerous part must begin: ascending the summit while defending the egg and ensuring it can re-incarnate safely. As Cinder draws closer to his destination, it becomes apparent that strange entities have begun abusing the elemental energies in the area, throwing them into flux. Could this be a result of the fading flame, or is something more sinister going on?
