Shadows of Fortificar is a hybrid narrative RPG and visual novel inspired by Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition.

You play as one of five characters, each offering a unique perspective on the story and their own distinct mechanics. The story unfolds in an original setting - the city of Fortificar, ravaged by an incurable plague.

You won't be able to save everyone, and you'll have to live with that. The plague is spreading faster than you can make decisions.  All you have is time - and there's never enough of it.

How the Game Plays

Narrative Gameplay (partially available now)

• Play as one of the five main characters of the story.

• Experience the story in a visual novel format featuring a large number of unique illustrations and manually crafted dynamic scenes.

• Make decisions and pass skill checks based on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition.

• Experience each hero through their personal backstory, with each route offering at least one hour of gameplay.

RPG / Strategy Gameplay (in development)

• Plan your route across the city map while managing limited time and resources.

• Explore Fortificar - a city that changes with or without your involvement.

• Decide which quests to prioritize, because events will not wait for your arrival.

• Save civilians, help your companions, and try to survive the plague yourself.

Current version of the game (demo)

Currently available content:

• 3 character backstories (linear narrative)

• 3+ hours of storytelling

• visual novel format (dialogues, scenes, a few choices)

• 26+ thousand words and ~1 thousand illustrations

Important: the main gameplay loop, city system, and most mechanics are still in development and will be added in the full version.

Hi! 

My name is Max, and I’m the lead developer of this game.

I’m a Unity programmer with over 6 years of experience in this field, and I really love games with strong storylines and deep concepts. 

Simply put, this game is my dream project - one I finally decided to attempt thanks to an incredibly powerful sense of inspiration and the support of my dear wife, family and friends.

It is based on a real D&D campaign I ran as a Dungeon Master. Having left an indelible mark on my heart, it lingered in my mind for a long time, eventually taking shape as a video game that you can see here
