What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've been developing Skedaddle for quite a time, worked hard and wanted the game to be feature complete and playable on EA release. Then we crossed the release date, gathered feedback from community and... Decided to re-implement the game from scratch! Why? We're tiny team - two people and only learning and experimenting on game design, art creation and programming approaches. That's a very interesting, long adventure and after the release we understood that we know nothing. Literally :).

We understood few core things:
- current gameplay balance is tough. Most people won't finish the game.
- Game needs co-op and preferably online multiplayer modes to play with Steam friends.
- There are few core concepts in game that we want to re-think and improve: level generation mechanics, obstacles, feel of character controls and rewards.
- Game needs more optimised gameplay behaviour algorithms and renderer.
- Game engines is very important topic nowadays, so the engine should be changed too, of course.
- Eugene (Artist) already has a good skill in art production, but Arthur (me, programmer) needs more programming experience to produce gameplay features faster, harder, better. Computer Science is a daily learning routine now!

So, you're joining a little adventure where we're going to experiment and build something better than we currently have from scratch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Depends on how many features we decide to implement in new version of the game. We hope we will move fast. But in general - no idea how long it will take. Maybe 3 months, maybe year?”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Ideally we want to implement the next things:
- Co-op mode. We made co-op mode prototype during the greenlight, but decided not to go with full co-op mode in the current release.
- Player shouldn't start from scratch when he dies!
- Monsters currently just go through the pits which is not acceptable. Need to come up with solution for it.
- More sound effects: when you pass the level, current on the third and fourth stages, background for upgrades menu and so on.
- Animated screen in between levels.
- Better level generation algorithm and totally different level system.
- New game features which we have as a concept currently. Eager to show you what we've got.
- Steam cloud saves.
- Add more visual effects where it's necessary to make game experience more appealing.
- Linux version.
- Achievements.
- Full controller support.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Game runs. It's cool.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Sure. We want all the money. Give it to us!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“1. We will post updates as soon as we've accomplished something new and interesting enough to make you aware of it.
2. You will test it and give us feedback.
3. We adjust it and hopefully add something cool to the game.

That's how we thought early access should work. Right?”

About This Game

In Skedaddle your ultimate goal is to run through 10 levels having only 1 life. It may sound simple, but running in the game is not easy. Alternate two buttons to accelerate your character. Make one mistake and you fall over, then eaten by the local alien creature.

Get in your ship at the end of each stage, buy upgrades to make your character stronger and continue to the next run. Reach enough scores to unlock more characters with special abilities.

Have fun, and keep your fingers healthy.

KEY FEATURES

  • Procedurally generated levels. Each adventure is different.
  • 6 unique characters to play.

  • 1 life to pass through all levels.
  • Buy upgrades and the end of each chapter. Try to build your own upgrade strategy which works best.
