MTA P32AC-DM – Dual-Mode Power for New York Commuter Rail

The MTA P32AC-DM brings authentic dual-mode rail operations to your simulation. Developed for Amtrak and Metro-North Railroad, this iconic GE Genesis Series II locomotive is capable of seamless operation in both diesel mode and electric third-rail mode, allowing realistic services into Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station.

Rated at 3,200 horsepower, the P32AC-DM delivers strong and reliable performance on open mainlines, while its 750-volt third-rail capability enables emission-free operation in restricted terminal areas. The locomotive accurately represents both under-running and over-running third-rail systems, reflecting real-world Metro-North and Amtrak practice.

Unlike other Genesis variants, the P32AC-DM features AC traction motors and a 12-cylinder prime mover, resulting in smooth acceleration, high tractive effort, and dependable operation under demanding commuter schedules. With a maximum speed of 110 mph (177 km/h), it is perfectly suited for high-density commuter services as well as intercity passenger duties.
