On Fighting Shadows is a narrative-focused, quasi-autobiographical JRPG that tells the story of Marvin, a teenager who faces daily obstacles that originate from his own being: conditions that are commonly referred to as “hidden disabilities”. Born with hydrocephalus, a brain condition that calls for the need to install a brain shunt, Marvin deals with physical limitations and unexpected events. The game mixes narrative-focused segments with classic turn-based JRPG dungeons and battle mechanics. Marvin's struggles materialize in a fictional metaphor world where he faces demons, including his own. Around Marvin, a wide range of characters, real and imagined, aid and challenge him in his journey to recover from a shunt malfunction.
