Damlama Government Secret Archive Records: What is Known About the Emerald Flower Project

Biological Origin

The Emerald Flower (Stapelia Smaragdina) is a parasitic plant. It is a subspecies of Stapelia Gigantea. Although it is unknown exactly when and how it evolved, fossils dating back to the evolution of Homo heidelbergensis have been found. (Research is ongoing...)

Reproduction Strategy

While its cousin Stapelia Gigantea uses flies to reproduce, this subspecies, known as the Emerald Flower, uses mammals. Its infection strategy relies on emitting a dizzyingly beautiful scent to attract victims, especially chimpanzees and humans. When the victim smells the flower, the seeds attach to the brain's olfactory nerve. Since these seeds are microscopic in size, the victim walks away completely unaware of the parasite infection.

The seed slowly develops here by feeding on the moisture of the mucus and penetrates the brain. Once inside, the Emerald Flower accelerates its growth using glucose in the brain and extends its roots into the brain stem. These growing roots thin out to a microscopic level, splitting into nanofibers, and seep into the synaptic clefts, beginning to control all of the mammal's instincts. This process takes about 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks, the fully possessed subject feels the need to consume about 4 times more food than normal and feels the urge to remove anything covering their skin, such as clothing.

If the infection reaches this stage, there is no turning back. From this point on, the victim must remain emotionally stable. If they suddenly experience emotions like fear, anxiety, or happiness, the hormones released from the victim's hypothalamus will cause the flower to activate. If the person can remain emotionally stable for a long period, the Emerald Flower completely takes over the brain and extends its roots into all of the victim's blood vessels, taking full control of the host.

If the flower activates before it has time to spread throughout the body, it constricts the Arteria Carotis (carotid artery) leading to the brain with its roots, cutting off blood flow and killing its host.

During the 3 hours following death, the Emerald Flower grows out of the victim's mouth and nose and blooms. This flower remains open for about 1 week; if it cannot find a new host, it withers and dies.

If another mammal approaches the corpse or tries to smell the flower during this time, the flower suddenly releases all its seeds into the air, attaching to that mammal's olfactory nerve and restarting the whole process.

Should We Be Worried?

Although the picture is alarming, humanity brought this Emerald Flower nightmare under control decades ago. All members of the flower were collected and burned, driving it to extinction. Only a single seed and its genetic code map were kept under high-security preservation at the ******** Laboratory. We celebrate the joy of being rid of this horrific parasite, which slaughtered millions of members of our species, globally every year in the first week of August as Emerald Flower Awareness Week. As long as humanity stands united, no organism can bring an end to our species.

(Edit 1) 12/02/2018

The last seed and genetic codes of the Emerald Flower were lost during an attack on the ******** Laboratory. Anyone who has seen the last seed or shares information about its whereabouts will be awarded 15 Million Rayet for themselves and their families. The world needs you...

(Edit 2) 04/08/2018

The Alpu Government has claimed responsibility for the theft of the Emerald Flower. They announced to the entire world that the flower had been reproduced and, through genetic modifications using advanced genetic technologies, its sap had been turned into a fuel 20 times more efficient than petroleum. The whole world is rejoicing that energy crises are ending and that we will achieve a new world order. The Alpu Government announced it is looking for human subjects for studies to prevent the Emerald Flower from infecting humans. Because it is suspected that the experiments will push ethical boundaries, our Government is putting political pressure on Alpu. The entire world has evaluated this pressure as the Damlama Government trying to block the Emerald Flower project because it can no longer be a petroleum giant. Tension is rising globally; the whole world is providing financial and political support to Alpu. Although our Government has repeatedly stated its dissatisfaction with this situation, the world fully supports this project, which will end their dependence on Damlama for energy.

(Edit 3) 25/01/2020

Our government did not want to take any risks, and despite knowing it would draw the ire of the entire world, organized a night-time Lightning Operation against Alpu, entering the laboratory where the Emerald Flower experiments were conducted and destroying all documents. Seizing the storage units containing the genetic code data and a few Emerald Flower samples, our government burned down the entire laboratory and the surrounding civilian living areas with napalm bombs. In the fires that broke out after the attacks, hundreds of thousands of civilians burned to death due to the inadequate infrastructure of the Alpu Government. The whole world is in an uproar. The entire world condemns our government and stands with Alpu. Although our Government states they did this to prevent humanity from being dragged into a great apocalypse because of this flower, global tensions are not dropping.

(Edit 4) 30/06/2020 Representatives from nations all over the world gathered at a congress called "Damlama's Noose" in response to this attack by our government, and after a few tense hours, it was announced that all states had formed a coalition. Following this, they declared war on our government. Officially, the Damlama Government is now at war with the entire world.

These might be the last things I write here. I'm supposed to use a scientific tone, but f*ck Damlama and the scientific tone too. We are now in the 5th month of the war, and the government fell in the 3rd month. Soldiers are roaming all over the country, slaughtering anyone they want—elderly, women, children—without mercy. This has gone beyond war; it has turned into a vendetta. We thought they would stop after our government was overthrown, but instead, they grew more savage. I have witnessed the most horrifying aspects of humanity. They cut off the hands of my neighbor across the street and threw him out the window. Their only reason was that he spilled the coffee he made during a routine house raid onto a soldier because his hands were shaking. To find food for my 2-year-old son, I beat up a greengrocer the other day and stole a few tomatoes. I took a good beating myself, but at least my family and I are trying to survive somehow.
