What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows me to develop the game for longer, resulting in more content in the full version. It will also allow me to replace some of the 2D art placeholders with actual handmade art pieces.

The Feedback from Early Access Players also allows for a greater variety in the game. Early alpha tests had already shown that different player vastly differ in their weapon preferences. So the more players test the game and give feedback on their favourite weapons, songs and enemies, the more tastes the game can cater to.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I am currently planning to release the full version of the game in early to mid 2027. This estimation get's more precise the further along we are in development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During the Early Access phase I am planning to implement more content in all aspects of the game. So by the time the full version is released I would like to have added more:
- songs
- weapons
- enemies
- artefacts
- items
- scenarios
- environments
than the current Early Access version contains.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this point the game is in the first stage of Early Access. That means it is in a bare bones, yet sellable and enjoyable state. Current features include:
- 3 Enviroments
- (not quite) endless procedural dungeon dive
- Defend the Tavern mode
- a few scenarios
- The Songsmithy to import your own songs and beatmaps
- 9 enemies
- 5 weapons
- 16 artifacts
- 6 usable Items”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I am not planning to change the price during and after leaving Early Access. An occasional promotional discount notwithstanding.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I am very much looking forward to feedback from and discussions with players on the RiffHammer Discord Server.”

About This Game

RiffHammer is a rhythm hack-and-slash game where every strike lands in time with the music. Stay on the beat to unleash devastating blows.

You’re not the only one bound by the music. Your enemies attack in rhythmic patterns of their own. Read these patterns and exploit their rhythm to dominate the battlefield.

Fight as a grumpy dwarf through procedurally generated dungeons and handcrafted scenarios — or defend the local tavern and its precious beer barrels against ferocious hordes. Face off against undead, orcs, demons, insectoids, and more.

Every weapon in RiffHammer comes with its own moveset, soundtrack, and beatmaps—each tailored to its unique fighting style.

Swing the Doomhammer for slow, crushing devastation. Tear through enemies with the Thrash Daggers in frantic close combat. Or shoot bolts from the Argent Impaler, if you don't like anyone in the direction you are pointing.

Want to take it further? Import your own songs and beatmaps to create your custom riffhammering experience.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Several placeholder 2D art pieces are generated using Stable Diffusion. In the Early Access version these are marked with the word "Placeholder" in the bottom right corner of the image and will be replaced by artist drawings during the Early Access process.
