Aevitas (noun) - from Latin: eternity, age, or everlasting time.
A sense of timelessness and continuity, referring to the infinite expanse of time or existence.

About the Game

Aevitas: Last Light is a short atmospheric 2D platforming experience that deals with atrophy, loss, and acceptance.

You begin your journey weightless and capable, able to traverse the world with ease. As time goes on, your strength diminishes and your abilities are lost. Familiar routes are now filled with challenging obstacles to conquer.

Through environmental storytelling and a strong focus on mood and sound, Aevitas: Last Light explores what it means to keep moving forward when strength fades, and how acceptance can be found at the end of a long struggle.

• Inverted Progression
  In a reverse Metroidvania structure, advance through losing powers rather than gaining them.

• Atmospheric 2D Platforming
  Well-designed environments that develop with your character, inspired by the likes of Gris and Ori.

• Emotion-Driven Music
  A reactive soundscape that supports the emotional journey.

• Minimal Narrative
  The use of visuals, mechanics, and environments for storytelling with little to no texts.

• Short, Handcrafted Experience
  Designed to be completed in one 15-20 minute sitting as an artistic experience. All assets are made by hand and animations are drawn frame-by-frame.

Demo & Full Release

There’ll soon be a free demo available here. The demo comes with the whole game but without the polishes.

The full version is still in the development process and expands on the experience based on feedback from the demo!

About the Team

Aevitas: Last Light was created by a multidisciplinary team of five Master’s students at Aalto University.

The game was developed over the course of three months. This project represents our shared exploration of narrative-driven, atmospheric, artistic game design within a compact scope.
