What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“There are many reasons for us to release Soul Harvest in Early Access :
- Gathering player feedback on the current game experience
- Engage with the community to discuss about new content, like additionnal game modes
- Fixing compatibility problems on different computer specs
- Funding some trips to bigger game events like PAX or Indiecade

Bringing Soul Harvest to Early Access represents a step forward in the development process : we've been working on the game on our free time for the past 3 years, gathering feedback from players during various game related events.
We now wish to confront the game to a standard play experience, on the user's computer and with no developper around to tell you what to do when you're stuck.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Around 6 to 9 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay of the game is set and we have a few versus game modes but some key features are missing right now :
- More versus game modes
- More map biomes
- More awesome music tracks by Erik Peabody (Viking Guitar) and Taylor Shechet (GRYPT, EarwormAud.io)
- Some more game balancing
- A solo/coop campaign to learn how to play the various factions
- A faction editor with unlockable content to play with mixed units and spells
- A game mechanics based level editor
- Localization in french and polish and maybe in spanish, german and russian
- The Celestial faction, which would be a fifth unlockable faction”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game currently is a local multiplayer only game including :
- A versus mode for up to 4 players
- 4 playable factions (Cruelty, Bitterness, Excess and Transgression)
- 2 versus game modes (Elimination and Citadel)
- 2 map biomes (lava and ashes)
- A basic AI bot for training
- A simple tutorial”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The Early Access price is set at a value we think is fair but we plan to make discounts when bigger updates are released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is very important, especially for strategy games. We want to make the game as easy to learn as possible. So we're very eager to get our player's opinion on the tutorial, campaign mode and the balancing of faction and maps.

We'd also like to build some more versus game modes with the help of the community, to see where our combined dark thoughts can lead us to >:)”

[UPDATE 0.9.2] We're not dead yet !

Hello everyone,

It's been a very long time since we've updated Soul Harvest. We're very sorry about that and we plan to make more steady updates until the game development is over.

The fact that we're working on the game on our free time while having dayjobs have had a harmful effect on the development cycles, especially since one of us got a job in a game company (remember, we're only 2 developers and 2 musicians !).
We were never planning on leaving Soul Harvest unfinished, it was just a matter of time before we got back to work.

Now we're back on track ! We're planning on making an update every month, with much content added at each step.

This update adds 24 new versus maps set in the Excess tileset, a hobo demon giving tips in the game hub and many tweaks and bug fixes.

Next steps are to make a lot more campaign levels with our new tweaked map editor, to make our bots have more faction based behaviour and to add the Faction Editor so you can make your own custom factions !
