About This Game

In 18th-century colonial Brazil, millions of Africans were torn from their homelands and shipped to the Bay of All Saints. History remembers them as victims. This game tells a different story.

Black Sailors: A Santos Bay Tale is a turn-based tactics game where formerly enslaved people seize a ship, become pirates, and wage war against colonial oppression in pursuit of freedom, justice... and revenge.

Tactical Combat

Turn-based naval combat with inertia-based movement. Timing, positioning, and planning ahead are everything when facing stronger enemies.

Navigation

Sail mastery is crucial. Each situation demands unique maneuvers. Choose attack angles and escape routes wisely, turning the sea into your battlefield.

Crew Management

Your crew is the heart of the rebellion. Assign people to different roles and configurations to change the ship's behaviour. The same vessel becomes a different weapon depending on who you place where.

Plunder Portuguese caravels, intercept slave ships and free the captives, and support quilombos hidden among the islands. Each decision strengthens the resistance and sparks new fronts of freedom.

The Crew

Your crew is drawn from many nations. A warrior from Dahomey, a blacksmith from Oyo, a hunter from Ife... each carrying their own beliefs and skills. Forced together by colonialism, they must find unity in their differences to survive and fight back.

In a stylized colonial Bahia, the game evokes revolt and pride, putting you in the role of an insurgent force that challenges the official history. Every victory carries symbolic weight. Every bond forged between different peoples echoes the real origins of Afro-Brazilian culture.
