You are not the hero. In this business, nobody is. The Agency runs a tight ship when managing handlers and agents alike; each tool’s meant to be used until their usefulness runs dry. 

And you have reached an inch before the end of your rope. 

When a mission goes bad and leaves you crippled, you're knocked from your spot as the top agent and brought very close to being retired in the Agency's most favored way. Instead, you're handed a bone. Become a handler to four agents with exceptional skills and a strong need for guidance. Get them to work as a well-oiled machine, succeed in your missions, and prove you still have use.
