What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows for TonoTone to grow alongside its community. This option gives us the best pathway to implement player ideas and continue development based on feedback. The goal of TonoTone will always be to make music production as fun and accessible to as many players as possible. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The plan is to stay in Early Access for at least 6 months. During this time, development will be based on community feedback to assess if any core modules need adjusting. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The first major step in TonoTone's Early Access timeline is to implement localization and language settings. Following that would be the implementation of more accessibility settings, such as different color modes. As for base content and additional modules, what's added next is subject to community feedback. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“TonoTone currently features everything seen in the trailer, which includes:

-Envelopes
-Generators/Oscillators
-Sequencers
-Circle of Fifths Scale Selector
-Patch Matrix

The game, in its current state, allows players to compose their own tracks and save/load songs. This is a built-for-VR game, meaning a VR headset and motion controllers are required to play this game. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Currently there is no plan to change the price after Early Access. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“TonoTone has been supported by its grassroots community since its Kickstarter, and we are still exploring the best avenues to reach a broader audience. Currently, TonoTone and Opal Studios can be found on YouTube, BlueSky, Discord, as well as Steam forums.

We've been actively reaching out to fans and supporters through these avenues to share updates and gather ideas. Player feedback is vital to the growth of TonoTone, so we consistently check these forums on a weekly basis to gather any new information about reported bugs and player ideas. This information plays a key role in deciding which modules demand more attention and how to further shape the game to maximize the player experience. ”

About This Game

TonoTone is designed to be an easy to understand, reasonable first approach to modular synthesis while still bringing new experiences for seasoned composers. This cockpit style synthesizer offers full wrap-around interaction that makes for an immersive music composition experience. This synthesizer is also designed to provide the relevant frequencies to use for different scales, allowing for intricate theorized melodies or freeflow jam sessions!

Features

  • Generators - Choose from 12 different waveforms and see how your modulations affect the wave shape in real time.

  • Envelopes - Envelopes are shaped via four points of control to allow for easy adjustment and customization.

  • Sequencers - The GatorGroover is an 8 step sequencer that, when paired together, allows for polyrhythms. The bottom row of teeth controls how many beats are in a measure (or sequence) while the top row of teeth toggles each step on/off.

  • Patch Matrix - Presented as the Ice Cream Parlor section of TonoTone, ice cream cones store sequencer data and can be plugged into an array of channels. Sequencers can be wired into these channels via the tubs of ice cream to play a composed string of sequences. Play with different channels and cone variations to explore new patterns and harmonies with your own melodies.
