What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I've been building this game on my own for few months now, and the core loop is now stable, playable and representative of what the full game aims to be. The core gameplay systems are functional, but they still need real player feedback to reach their full potential.

Early Access lets me test these systems with a wider audience so I can tune pacing, balance and usability before expanding the game further. It also gives me a clearer picture of which features players value most as I continue adding more features.

My goal is to use Early Access to refine the foundation, respond quickly to feedback and build toward a final version that feels cohesive, polished and worth the time players invest in it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Likely until mid 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version I plan to expand the game with additional mechanics, progression systems and world interactions. This may include things like deeper town relationships, optional challenges, new forms of player progression, or light encounters on the world map.

I expect to iterate based on player feedback during Early Access, so the exact scope and order of updates may change. As the game evolves, I plan to release more levels that highlight the different gameplay systems.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The main game loop of trading and upgrading towns is implemented. The player can ship goods back and forth, make profits and use those profits to build production buildings in towns or to upgrade their own caravan.
In Early Access, there are two available levels that demo this main gameplay loop.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the game will remain free to play forever.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback is always welcome. The game features a bug report button that players can use to get in touch with me regarding feedback. Players are encouraged to report bugs, ask for improvements in balancing and suggest new features and game ideas.”

About This Game

Medieval Merchant is a medieval game of commerce and trade where small villages depend on you to grow. Buy and sell goods, supply towns with what they lack, and watch them develop and thrive. Use the supply-demand based economy to your advantage to build your own prosperity and make a profit in the process.

Key features

Town growth through trade
Each town has its own resources, production chains, shortages and demands. Supplying what they need unlocks upgrades, new goods and lets you tap into higher-value markets. Build your trade network over time by developing more and more towns.

A dynamic economy system
Prices in the supply-demand based economy fluctuate with shifting world conditions. Temporary events, regional trends and other economic pressures can raise or lower the value of your goods, creating new opportunities or disrupting established routes. Plan your journeys, adapt to changing circumstances and take advantage of openings in the market.

Upgradable Caravan and Retinue
Grow your caravan as you travel and trade. Improve carrying capacity, speed and efficiency, and recruit specialists who add bonuses to your journeys. A stronger retinue lets you take on longer routes, handle more goods and adapt to the challenges of a growing trade network.
