About This Software

Desktop Character Layout (DCL) is a lightweight, easy-to-use utility that splits your desktop into a “workspace” and a “character display space,” so your favorite character can stay on screen while you work or study.

・It automatically arranges the desktop into separate workspace and character display areas.

・You can swap character art and background images in seconds — including images you created with AI.

・Multiple layout styles are supported: show the character on the right, left, or both sides, and you can scale and position the image.

・By connecting to the OpenAI API, or to supported local LLM environments, the character can engage in simple conversations with you. In addition to customizing the character’s personality, a simple memory feature has also been added.

・You can assign different backgrounds to the full desktop, the workspace area, and the character space.

・Your display settings are automatically saved and restored at launch. You can also save multiple presets and load them instantly.

・The app shows recommended image specs (sizes, etc.) based on your current PC setup.

・It’s designed to stay lightweight and simple, so it won’t get in the way while you’re working in other applications.

・Sample character and background images are included so you can try it immediately. You can of course use your own images, and I’ll also be releasing optional image packs in the future.

I plan to continue adding features over time.

This title uses generative AI tools (such as Stable Diffusion) during development to create some 2D character images, background images, and promotional images used on the store page.
All AI-generated images are manually edited and reviewed by the developer before being included in the product.
The application also includes an optional conversation feature that can operate using either the OpenAI API or a local LLM configured by the user.
However, no new content is generated while the application is in use.
