Varför Early Access?

“We are two sibling developers who have been building this game for over a year now already. Early Access allows us to continue development while involving the community in shaping the final experience. As a small team, player feedback is incredibly important for balancing gameplay, improving performance, and expanding content in the right direction.

”

Ungefär hur länge kommer det här spelet att vara i Early Access?

“We expect the game to remain in Early Access for approximately 1 to 2 years. The exact duration will depend on community feedback, gameplay balancing, and how the content evolves over time. As a two-developer team, we want to ensure that each update meaningfully improves the experience rather than rushing toward a full release.”

Hur är det tänkt att den fullständiga versionen ska skilja sig från versionen i Early Access?

“The full version is planned to launch with significantly expanded content and systems.

We aim to include at least 3 Story Mode chapters and 6 Purge maps, along with deeper narrative elements that further explore the game’s world and backstory.

We also plan to introduce:

• Player customization options
• An expanded shop system
• More tools, weapons, and gameplay mechanics
• Additional polish and quality-of-life improvements

Performance optimization is a major focus for us. The full release will prioritize stability and delivering the smoothest experience possible.

Depending on community feedback during Early Access, we are also interested in expanding the game with additional modes and new content beyond our current roadmap.”

“At the launch of Early Access, the game will include 3 Purge maps and 1 Story Mode chapter.

All core gameplay systems are fully playable, including the main objectives, progression structure, and core mechanics.

The Early Access version also includes:

• A player leveling system
• An in-game currency system
• Basic shop functionality
• Limited player customization options

While the foundational systems are in place, content variety, customization depth, shop expansions, and overall polish will continue to grow throughout Early Access.

We will actively refine balance, improve performance, and expand content based on player feedback.”

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

 WHAT IS BLACKROOTS

Blackroots is a co-op fantasy/horror game where players work together or alone to resist a dark force known as Ul'vorran. Fight back against Ul'vorran’s growing darkness. Purge corruption and break pacts before they are fulfilled, or dive into Story Mode. Earn currency, level up, and unlock tools to increase your chances of survival.

Here is Backstory

A long time ago, a small order devoted itself to protecting people from dark forces. They used forbidden knowledge to keep the world safe.

In their search for greater power, they discovered the name Ul'vorran.

Some members chose to go astray. They sought a pact with Ul'vorran in exchange for strength.

To bring Ul'vorran back into the world, they performed a ritual beneath the oldest tree in existence.

Some resisted, because they knew better. They understood that Ulvorran would not keep its word and would only bring greater darkness into the world.

When they could no longer resist others and stop the ritual, they devoted themselves to fighting this force instead. They broke away and formed a new order of their own separating themselves from the others. 
Called themselves Obscura

"We are Obscura.

Shadows know our names.

We fight in shadows so others may live in the light."

Those who bound themselves to the ritual in search of strength were consumed by it.

Now Ul'vorran spreads its force through the pacts it makes with those it deceives. Wherever a pact is made, black roots begin to grow. They spread from that place, twisting through the ground and corrupting everything they touch. For centuries, Obscura has fought Ul'vorran. Each generation passes the mission forward. Now, the fight belongs to you!

Multiple Game Modes

The game features two modes at the start of your journey: Story Mode and Purge Mode. Story Mode is focused on narrative, while Purge Mode is centered on breaking unfinished pacts.

The Madness Maze

When your sanity drops to zero, you are pulled into the Madness Maze.
In there, you are alone and your teammates cannot help you, they can only hear your scream.
Inside, something is chasing you. The maze is filled with traps.
The maze keeps changing and re-shaping, so do not trust your memory!
You must find the exit before your mental stability reaches zero, or...
