What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are using Early Access because Late for School is still under active development, and several parts of the game may change based on community feedback. The current version includes the basic structure of driving levels, item collecting, and calendar progression, but many systems are still being evaluated. Early Access allows us to understand what players enjoy, what feels confusing or underdeveloped, and what direction future updates should take.

Nothing in the design is final, and features, difficulty, pacing, and even the structure of some levels may evolve as we learn more from players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for roughly six months of Early Access, although this is only an estimate. The actual timeline may change depending on player feedback, development needs, and how much additional content we decide to explore.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final version has no fixed scope yet. Many features and ideas are still in flux, and community feedback will play a large role in shaping what the complete release looks like. Potential areas of exploration include new or reworked levels, expanded environmental hazards, adjustments to progression or pacing, additional or redesigned challenges, revised scoring, badges, or goals, updates to UI, accessibility, and quality of life and visual or audio improvements.

These possibilities are not promises. They are examples of directions we may take as we continue developing the game based on what players respond to.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is playable from start to finish and includes all core systems, such as driving, item collection, the calendar progression, badge earning, and the final item-return challenge. While everything functions, the game is still unpolished in several areas. Some levels may need tuning, visuals may be refined, and certain UI elements, animations, and effects could benefit from additional smoothing and iteration.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Because the Early Access version is still rough and unpolished, it will be offered at a lower introductory price. This reflects the game's in-development state and rewards players who are willing to try it early and provide feedback. As the game becomes more polished, gains additional variety, and approaches its full release, the price will increase to reflect the completed experience.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will help guide tuning, polish, and quality-of-life improvements during Early Access. The easiest place to share thoughts is through the Steam Community Forums on the game’s store page, where players can report bugs, suggest adjustments, or comment on level difficulty.”
